Happy Birthday, Alan Bates!

He would have been 86 today.

RIP!

How would you feel about Richard Madden in a Bates biopic?

by Anonymousreply 1February 18, 2020 1:49 AM

He's happy

by Anonymousreply 2February 18, 2020 1:55 AM

Madden, you're no Alan Bates

by Anonymousreply 3February 18, 2020 1:59 AM

Is his brother Master still alive?

by Anonymousreply 4February 18, 2020 2:27 AM

No. It's just Kathy left now.

by Anonymousreply 5February 18, 2020 2:28 AM

He is with Erica in movie heaven.

For his supposed kindness, he seemed to put his boyfriends through the ringer.

by Anonymousreply 8February 18, 2020 3:08 AM

If only he were alive today...

... in which case he would be clawing at the inside of the lid of his coffin.

by Anonymousreply 9February 18, 2020 3:17 AM

r8, details please!

by Anonymousreply 10February 18, 2020 4:10 PM

R8 He didn't. Believe me he didn't

[Quote] During his affair with Nickolas Grace, a fellow actor, Bates made him hide under the back seat if they were travelling in a car.

That's kind of sad.

R4 No, Master Bates was his older rich pervy uncle.

by Anonymousreply 16February 18, 2020 5:25 PM

It's just so sad he glug glug glugged his way to eternity.

You don't know Nickolas Grace obviously... He's like a chewing-gum under your sole. Alan had a collection of weirdos and rescue cases, including Jo Pettet and Nick Grace , who all believed they were the ' one' and would eventually be Lady Bates. He couldn't let them down because they were useless and needy, but there were certain limits. If anything Alan was too kind and should have told them to Fuck off. He supported his weirdos emotionally and financially until his last day.

by Anonymousreply 19February 18, 2020 5:28 PM

I understand he liked Ivor Novello‘s music.

by Anonymousreply 20February 18, 2020 5:32 PM

He is greatly missed.

by Anonymousreply 21February 18, 2020 5:36 PM

It's kind to string people along?

by Anonymousreply 22February 18, 2020 5:37 PM

What is that supposed to mean R20 ? He liked Jeremy Northam. He thought Jeremy should have been a bigger star, but Jeremy didn't like stardom , The paps etc.

by Anonymousreply 23February 18, 2020 5:38 PM

He didn't string people along, they just wouldn't let go when it was over

by Anonymousreply 24February 18, 2020 5:39 PM

Jeremy Northam is ice cold. Audiences decided if you'll be a star or not.

by Anonymousreply 25February 18, 2020 5:41 PM

Jeremy stepped down. He didn't like the exposure, Vera

Like his wife? The woman he let raise his children, despite the fact that her mental illness was writ large? Bates couldn't deal with reality.

by Anonymousreply 27February 18, 2020 5:43 PM

He had custody of the boys, you stupid

by Anonymousreply 28February 18, 2020 5:44 PM

Those boys were left with their mother far too long. Bates was a Peter Pan, always off in Neverland.

by Anonymousreply 29February 18, 2020 5:49 PM

Nick is that you ? You really should let go and get a life. You didn't mean much you know ? Just move on already

by Anonymousreply 30February 18, 2020 5:52 PM

Gabriel Oak....I will ALWAYS be in love with Gabriel Oak in Far from the Madding Crowd.

He was really talented and fascinating to watch. I've seen him in three or four films and the characters he played all seemed to be bisexual.
