I don't know what the answer is in how to protect young performers. A parent can only do so much when their child is making enough money to support themselves. If the parent pushes too hard the kid can try to get emancipated. Sometimes you have parents who are using their kid. I don't know what Bieber's relationship is like with his parents, but he talks about not knowing who to trust. Likely he had people warning him to keep away from drugs and sycophants but he ignored it because when you're young, and especially young and wealthy, you're doing to do what you want to do.

As annoying as Billie Eilish is, her parents have been in the business for decades and appear to be intelligent, savvy people. Bieber's family, of course, is total white trash without a brain cell between any of them.
