"It is the Death Star of presidential campaigns. Bloomberg employs more — much more — staff than any other candidate, and pays them unusually well. And not only that, he offers them three meals a day and iPhone 11s. Bloomberg’s campaign events have everything: catered food, more than enough free t-shirts for everyone, highly produced stages with themed backdrops and lecterns. Bloomberg is carrying out the largest advertising campaign in the history of American presidential politics, with over $400 million spent on ads so far and counting. Bloomberg is cornering the market on available staff for other campaigns that might need them.”
Bloomberg is running the "Death Star" of presidential campaigns
by Anonymous | reply 114 | February 19, 2020 9:15 PM |
One argument for Bloomberg is that he'll be able to run a huge turnout operation in the fall of 2020 that will help a lot down ballot.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | February 17, 2020 6:21 PM |
R1, Aren't you concerned that all of this expenditure on campaigning, when some are worried about a possible recession in 2020 and trying to limit their own spending, will turn a lot of voters completely off?

He needs to chill and focus more on something different than merely flooding the airwaves. I'm already so sick of his nonstop ads that I'm beginning to hate him rather than just dislike him because he's a racist, sexist lifelong Republican who's going to do a leveraged buyout of the DNC.

Any of the other candidates will be absolutely destroyed and crushed by Trump and the Republican machine, R10. They've already destroyed Biden, and if Bernie gets the nomination, Republicans will saturate the airwaves about a communist/socialist wants to run the USA. And as far a Mayor Pete goes, I agree with Fran Leborwitz: I wouldn't want him head of my condo president much less the President of the USA. If you think that's a brutal assessment, wait till you see what Republicans have in store for him.

I don't buy this line from the Bloomberg campaign. In fact, I think it's a bullshit line that they stole from the Biden camp. I don't need this latecomer Bloomberg camp waving their obscene wads of billions at me and telling me that they are the only ones capable of beating Trump, when he hasn't even shown his face at a debate or town hall.

The whole process has been a long, drawn out farce that needs to be stopped dead in its tracks. These debates and these small state primaries/caucuses are complete and total bullshit and only serve to make the candidates more vulnerable than they already are.

by Anonymous | reply 17 | February 17, 2020 7:16 PM |
R14, Mondale and McGovern each only won 1 state plus D.C. So a Bernie loss is more likely to be like Dukakis's in 1988, who won 10 states plus DC, maybe add on a few more states.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | February 17, 2020 7:17 PM |
I gave Bloomy's campaign my phone and email. They were right on top of it asking if I wanted to do volunteering. I told them that I would wait til after the convention, after everything shakes out. My neighborhood went very heavily for Trump and I could easily see canvassing for Bloomberg around here. He would *not* be a tough sell, imo.

What does this tell you! A person who is so above it all and can do anything fucking thing he wants and does do it, isn't what we want for president. We already have one of those. With his power and money he will pay to destroy government programs faster than anyone ever could. He will buy off anyone to do his bidding. He is more dangerous than Trump because he does have a working brain and SO much more money. The only reason he is for clean air is that the evil rich have to breathe too.

The super rich, including the Hollywood elite got Bloomberg to run. Why are they and corporations and Wall Street and the entire 1% so terrified of Bernie if as so many here claim, Bernie can't get elected or get anything done. If that were true the 1% would have nothing to fear. Those who might not be quite 1% but have plenty, lots of posters here, would have nothing to fear. But yet you're all scared shit because you know Bernie can beat Trump and he can accomplish what he says he will. Why do you so fear the poor and near poor having just a little. How will it hurt you, even if you end up paying a fraction of 1% more in taxes. Does it so bother you to live in a world where there is less suffering. Do you somehow feel superior only if there are many under you? If so you should be examining your own motives for all the Bernie hate. I used to think it was just antisemitism but it goes so far beyond that.

Didius Julianus made the highest bid and was proclaimed emperor in AD 193.Didius Julianus would gain historical notoriety only for the means by which he became emperor, by winning the bidding at what has been called the "Auction of the Empire." scene became that of an auction, with Flavius Sulpicianus and Didius Julianus outbidding each other in the size of their donatives to the troops. The Roman empire was for sale to the highest bidder. When Flavius Sulpicianus reached the figure of 20,000 sesterces per soldier, Didius Julianus upped the bid by a whopping 5,000 sesterces, displaying his outstretched hand to indicate the amount. The empire was sold, Didius Julianus was allowed into the camp and proclaimed emperor.

A little...
Bloomberg is an actualization of what the Trump candidacy was supposed to be. Trump is a fake but he wanted American voters to think he was so rich he stood to gain nothing by being President so that his motives must be altruistic. He appealed to poor white people based on this falsehood, some really believed that he was a successful, capable businessman who wanted to make things good for them. But we now know that Trump is a broke conman -- in debt to foreigners -- who needed to exploit the office of President to restore his waning 'fortune.'
I appreciate that Bloomberg is offering proof that he is not a fake billionaire. I wonder if those poor white people will respond to an ultra-rich Jew the same way they embraced a wealthy bigot.

Most of us have never witnessed anything like Trump in our lives. The unease he has caused in our communities, the nation and the world must end. If that means I have to vote for Bloomberg, so be it.

By contrast both of the Bloomberg clips portray very bad acting, singing, movement, by a man who's clearly not comfortable in his role on stage and definitely not having a very good time doing it either. Bloomberg's performances definitely needed a super light touch to be anything but embarrassing for all concerned.
Would have loved for Bloomberg to yell, "Ill sue if you drop me" while flying around as Mary Poppins. That would have gotten him an honestly big laugh. He needed to pretend to be a good dancer and move around a bit in the 2nd clip.

It's that Bernie can't beat Trump. Anyone who was paying attention saw that Bernie was not building coalitions or a larger voter base over the last four years. The Unity Tour in 2017 made the divisions in the party worse, and the loss of ALL of Bernie's candidates in 2018 sealed the deal. He can't win. He's a non-starter.
They're not afraid of him, they're afraid of losing.
by Anonymous | reply 94 | February 18, 2020 10:43 AM |
The Democrats really haven't recovered from Obama winning in 2008. They'd assumed Clinton was going to get the nomination and she very nearly did, but when she lost, the party had to work with Obama who, as we all know, didn't like the DNC one bit. He didn't do a lot of work for downticket races and he spent DNC money without working to fundraise and earn it back. Which is entirely his right, and this isn't meant as criticism, but the DNC wasn't able to bounce back from that easily.
So then in 2016 HRC runs and it's an uphill battle, not just because of interference but because of conservative backlash and the fact that it's historically very hard to win when your party has just held the White House for 8 years; Americans tend to want to alternate back and forth. She loses and the DNC is again caught off-guard.
They did really well in 2018 and are to be commended for pulling it together and winning the House, but the upshot of their focus on the House in 2018 is that they didn't seek out and nurture the kind of candidates we need for 2020.
Bloomberg is taking advantage of that, and as much as I appreciate that he is trying to stop Trump, I do not like the fact that he's taking advantage of a situation because he's a billionaire, just so he can make himself president, instead of using his wealth to help the Democratic Party (or everyday citizens, for that matter).

Bloomberg came into the race, not to stop Trump, but to stop Bernie. It wasn't until Bernie winning became a real thing that the 1%, WS, very rich celebrities, etc. got busy pushing Bloomberg. It suddenly became very real to them that for the first time in their lives they might actually have to pay their fair share. Red or Blue, for the most part the very wealthy are all the same. They don't like to share. They don't like to see real workers get ahead. They sure as hell don't want to see the poor getting anything, not even food. Do you think for a minute that even celebrities who pretend to be oh so Liberal pay their staff a living wage, treat their maids and nannies and gardeners fairly, pay for them to have Social Security, or any kind of means of supporting themselves when they're too old to work? No way in hell. The rich are all the same, they are takers, never givers unless there is some publicity and a big tax break involved in it.
Another thing, if Bloomberg is allowed to buy the presidency, who will buy it next time, the remaining Koch brother? The head of Goldman Sachs or someone just like them, one of those big church religious right preachers?

"Bloomberg is running the "Death Star" of presidential campaigns"
Does this mean that it has a very visible, very easily accessible vent just wide enough to allow a single determined rebel fighter to fly in and blow apart the whole thing?

The sad thing is that Trump didn't even buy the Presidency, at least not by spending his own money.

Most likely Trump spent Putin's money. Of course I'm sure Putin happily offered. Whatever the price it was cheap for owing the USA.
I no more want Bloomberg to own our country and like Trump Bloomberg will see himself as king.

R106 LSA is a reaction to racist white society. You have the nerve to call LSA a racist and homophobic site, but won't even give a thought to how racist classist and elitist people can be right here on DL on a daily basis.
Remember anti white sentiment is only possible because of the centuries long behavior of white society. So keep ignoring that very real fact.
White Society has never owned their ills against the others.
