Because it's much more comfortable, r1.

Fran HATES Bloomberg.
R1 is fearful that women are taking some of that male privilege way from him :(

She’s spot on about Pete. He completely lacks empathy. He is essentially a robot. Coupled with his ignoring questions about the military and war, it makes him a dangerous choice for the presidency.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | February 17, 2020 5:41 PM |
Love. Her.
She doesn't hold back, and why should she? She's like a human honey badger who doesn't give a shit.

All of that tobacco has fried her brain.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | February 17, 2020 5:44 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 11 | February 17, 2020 5:45 PM |
Of course Pete doesn't have empathy, he's an aspie
by Anonymous | reply 12 | February 17, 2020 5:46 PM |
When did she become Linda Hunt?
by Anonymous | reply 13 | February 17, 2020 5:48 PM |
Totally agree with her. As do most people I know in NY. Warren is the clear favorite. But we are totally out of sync with the rest of the country - as usual. So I’ll take any Dem.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | February 17, 2020 5:49 PM |
I'm not getting at all these people who think Pete is so awful, but accept that it's their take on him. I really get the feeling that a lot of the hatred of him is rooted in jealousy.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | February 17, 2020 5:54 PM |
IMO Warren is the only one who talks strategy. The rest just read scripts of what people want to hear.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | February 17, 2020 5:56 PM |
Warren's problem is that she's being too nice. Her only chance now is to look directly at the camera, and say to the viewing audience, "You're being screwed, and my number one priority above policy proposals is to put an end to that!"
by Anonymous | reply 17 | February 17, 2020 6:00 PM |
Warren wasn’t even viable in NH which is a state tailor made for her. She’s finished.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | February 17, 2020 6:02 PM |
She’s absolutely entitled to her considered and witty opinions.
But the media has been indulging in a feeding frenzy of criticism of every Democrat. All coverage is negative. Who’s even criticizing Trump anymore?
by Anonymous | reply 19 | February 17, 2020 6:05 PM |
The absence of Washington experience is relevant. Seen with Trump. And even Bill Clinton and George Bush. Clinton hit a wall of resistance that prevented any of his original initiatives getting passed in large part because he didn’t know how to operate in Washington or its key players. And Bush Jr needed up relying too much on the Washington insiders like Cheney and Rumsfeld.
I’m fine with Pete. But this idea that anybody can be President without any relevant experience needs to die. Experience and knowledge does matter.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | February 17, 2020 6:09 PM |
That is still one ugly woman. Ouch.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | February 17, 2020 6:15 PM |
Her comments on the art community in the early 70's is true, it was very small, at least from conversations I've had with people who were there in the 50s to 70s, everyone seemed to know each other.

Also, when are you transitioning?

Fran looks like hell now,but theres no denying she was a "handsome" woman in her day . I adore her ,shes just so damn intelligent . I agree with everything she said . I know I should be excited about Pete , but Im just not . In my wildest dreams Id never thought Id see a gay presidential candidate ,so why arent I excited about him ?
by Anonymous | reply 27 | February 17, 2020 6:39 PM |
I usually like Fran, but here she is wrong. Warren may be book smart but she has zero street smarts. You don't say some 8 year old transgender kid is going to help pick your cabinet and advisors. Not even as hyperbole or as a joke. It just sounds too unhinged.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | February 17, 2020 6:52 PM |
Fran should run for president and be our protest candidate
by Anonymous | reply 29 | February 17, 2020 6:54 PM |

What a shocker.

Mindful of another DL thread the late Orson Bean is a little mean to Fran on an old talk show, right at the beginning of the clip. I wonder if she's sending flowers.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | February 17, 2020 7:33 PM |
I saw Martin Scorsese interview her onstage at BAM, and she was interesting and engaging.
I appreciate her self awareness and agree with some of her ideas about technology and human inattentiveness.
She’s been so fortunate to have succeeded in life on her own terms. Being slothful and lazy sounds appealing, but I’d be so anxious about my freedom. She must have earned money somehow and possibly inherited some. She seems like our generation’s Dorothy Parker.
One thing, she seems smart enough to understand the lottery better than she seems to. It’s odd to see someone so seemingly erudite indulging in pretty lowbrow habits, buying cigarettes and lottery tickets. That’s kind of gross.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | February 17, 2020 7:36 PM |
R40, I don't think her smoking or buying lottery tickets has much to do with the intelligence with which she speaks.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | February 17, 2020 7:39 PM |
She’s entitled to her opinion but old New Yorkers are the worst. Super opinionated and never leave Manhattan. They are completely out of touch.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | February 17, 2020 7:42 PM |
Why should they leave Manhattan, and how is she out of touch, R43?
by Anonymous | reply 44 | February 17, 2020 7:47 PM |

“I was so wrong about this election [2016].”
“If they called me and said, ‘Fran—we’re going to let you choose the Democratic candidate,’ I would choose Elizabeth Warren.”
Fran Liebowitz is also wrong about Election 2020. (Not surprising.)
by Anonymous | reply 48 | February 17, 2020 8:19 PM |
R48, she stated it as hypothetical: "If they called me and said..." She was offering her opinion of her favorite candidate, not necessarily who she thinks will win.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | February 17, 2020 8:22 PM |
Fran doesn't actually care if Warren loses though.
She's still got her tax cut and doesn't experience hate crime like gay men do. She'd rather lose with Warren than an electable candidate. As was through in 2016.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | February 17, 2020 8:22 PM |
As was TRUE
by Anonymous | reply 51 | February 17, 2020 8:22 PM |
R50, there was no reason in 2016 to think Clinton wasn't electable. Nor do I think Lebowitz is motivated in her political choices by a tax cut. She didn't want Trump in to begin with. If she cared about a tax cut, she wouldn't have voted against him, would she?
Logic can be hard.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | February 17, 2020 8:25 PM |
I'm bored with rediscussing 2016 but there basically exists a certain type of woman who would rather lose with a woman than win with a man. They're often lesbians, like Fran.
There only exists a certain type of rich person who prefers Dems (so long as they're rich-friendly) but isn't scared when Republicans win, like Fran.
Anyway we need a brave, electable progressive for 2020: Pete Buttigieg
by Anonymous | reply 53 | February 17, 2020 8:33 PM |
That's a lot of projecting, R53.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | February 17, 2020 8:35 PM |
Yet it's all true.
Make no mistake: there are plenty of women on this site who would rather nominate Amy or Warren -- even if they *knew* they'd lose -- than nominate Pete.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | February 17, 2020 8:40 PM |
It's not true, it's your projection, R55. Clearly you have a bias for Buttigieg.

Stop fucking around, R57. She won the popular vote. That certainly proves she was "electable." The electoral college did her in, and Russia hacking.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | February 17, 2020 9:38 PM |
You know who isn't electable? Bernie Sanders. Not only once but twice.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | February 17, 2020 9:43 PM |
Oh my sides X2 R58
Beating a washed up reality TV show host with no political experience by ONLY three millions votes out of 130 million votes cast-- WHILE SIMULTANEOUSLY MANAGING TO LOSE THE ELECTORAL VOTE -- is a massive embarrassment.
Rightly or wrongly, people HATE her with the heat of ten thousand suns and she should not have been a candidate.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | February 17, 2020 10:03 PM |
So, R60, how much do YOU hate her? Isn't that what we're talking about here?
So, you're a Bernie supporter?
by Anonymous | reply 61 | February 17, 2020 10:05 PM |
Not at all R61
Pete or Amy, maybe even Bloomberg.
But it's a joke to hold up such a narrow margin of victory over a ridiculous candidate like Trump as a positive.
That's like Usain Bolt beating a a guy on crutches in the 100M dash by 2 seconds and bragging about it.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | February 17, 2020 10:08 PM |
^^I think Hillary is a very smart and competent woman who Peter Principled out as Secretary of State. Liz Warren has the same issues--there are many people who are very talented and smart and competent who are not suited to running the show, whether that's CEO or President.
Amy Klobuchar would be a good CEO and a good president. She's got the personality for it.
Hillary did not and she made many otherwise rational people's skin crawl

by Anonymous | reply 64 | February 17, 2020 10:13 PM |
The point is she did win the popular vote, R62. That's hardly unelectable because you say it wasn't by a large enough margin.
But excuse me while I hold my sides in laughter! You talk about unelectable candidates then mention Pete or Amy as electable! Just imagining them against Trump is just...well, MY SIDES!!!
by Anonymous | reply 65 | February 17, 2020 10:14 PM |
r13, I thought they were the same person for the longest time. It was only after Linda Hunt, who must've been sitting on a stack of phone books, was driving behind me one day and caught my eye in the rearview that I bothered to look her up and figured out she was not also Fran.

by Anonymous | reply 72 | February 17, 2020 10:30 PM |
Again, simpleton R72, she was saying if she could choose the candidate; she's not saying that candidate who would win. Is English not your first language?

Her campaign made some pretty bug mistakes as well.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | February 18, 2020 9:45 AM |
R75, she in fact has written two books, which were compiled and reprinted as The Fran Lebowitz Reader, which are considered to be humor classics compared to Dorothy Parker, and one children's book. For the past decade or two, she's been working on two new books. She contributes to Vanity Fair and other magazines, tours all over the world as a speaker, Martin Scorsese made a documentary about her, and Netflix has given her an upcoming series, produced by Scorsese.
And you, R75? Where's your relevance?
By the way, all the arguments against her on this thread are abut her looks or her age, but nothing about her observations, which are essentially, if not completely, true.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | February 18, 2020 12:50 PM |
R81 her observations are NOT sharp — they’re completely cliched and predictable , coming from “the old crank who laments the NYC of 40 years ago, and how it’s become a shopping mall, blah blah.” Yeah she’s so edgy and original.
She thinks she’s always being so contrarian and cool but really she’s just over the hill and annoying. And she thinks everyone is still interested in what she has to say.
by Anonymous | reply 82 | February 18, 2020 8:10 PM |
I really thought she was this person for one hot second:

by Anonymous | reply 85 | February 19, 2020 2:09 AM |
Maybe not everyone, R82--an idiot like you, perhaps, who puts things in quotes that aren't quotes of anything. And whether she herself thinks everyone is interested in what she has to say, it turns out many thousands all over there world pay to hear what she has to say. But I'm sure all this is lost on someone whose moniker is "Xennial." Really, you don't need to say anymore.
Because I'm certainly not interested in what you think or have to say.
by Anonymous | reply 86 | February 19, 2020 3:20 AM |
R86 sorry you get so butt hurt over a difference in opinion — you’re possibly more annoying than she is.
by Anonymous | reply 87 | February 19, 2020 3:33 AM |
Well, it's just an uninformed opinion, R87, so it's valueless. Who were you quoting, anyway?
by Anonymous | reply 88 | February 19, 2020 3:40 AM |
For a minute there I thought is Linda Hunt still alive?
by Anonymous | reply 89 | February 19, 2020 3:42 AM |
There anything ugly lesbians don't know?
by Anonymous | reply 90 | February 19, 2020 3:44 AM |

Certainly these ugly lesbians know more than you, R90.
by Anonymous | reply 91 | February 19, 2020 3:48 AM |
They sure do dress better than me. Got to love that suit.
by Anonymous | reply 92 | February 19, 2020 3:53 AM |
R88 to be fair , I wrote that fast and meant to put quotes around “become like a shopping mall,” which deserves them because it has become THE cliched critique of slash lament over New York.
And look, I was born and raised here, and I’m in my early 40s, so old enough to have gotten a taste of what that was, so I “get it.” But her refrain and shtick is always the same and (in this person’s opinion) very tiresome.
Not to mention if she really thinks tone deaf Warren is the best candidate then she’s really missing the boat.
by Anonymous | reply 93 | February 19, 2020 4:16 AM |
Like a lot of cliches, it's true, R93. NYC has most certainly become suburban, and if you live in NYC, that's undeniable. So this cliche is true, as so many cliches are.
You don't like Warren? Fine. But to essentially say Lebowitz is an irrelevant relic because you don't agree with her or like you doesn't make it true.
by Anonymous | reply 94 | February 19, 2020 4:22 AM |

R121, this election cycle is just HILARIOUS! And the joke will be on you, too. Laugh it up!
by Anonymous | reply 124 | February 19, 2020 3:19 PM |
R58 “She won the popular vote. That certainly proves she was "electable." The electoral college did her in...”
Mary!

^^^Another Hillary hater. Zzzzzz.^^^
by Anonymous | reply 126 | February 19, 2020 3:26 PM |
No, not a Hillary hater. Just pointing out that winning the electoral college is how you win the presidential election in the United States.
by Anonymous | reply 127 | February 19, 2020 3:32 PM |
No shit, R127. And do you also know how skewed the electoral college is, so that it's no longer an accurate or fair way to gauge who was the real choice of the people? The popular vote is.

Fran Lobowitz is so out of touch with mainstream America that it’s really embarrassing for her. I doubt she’s left her block in Manhattan in the past 20 years.
by Anonymous | reply 130 | February 19, 2020 4:59 PM |
"Fran Lobowitz"
Oh, dear, R130.
" I doubt she’s left her block in Manhattan in the past 20 years."
In fact, R130, she's moved numerous times in 20 years, so in fact she HAS left her block. You're so deeply and so proudly misinformed, and yet you spout your drivel.
by Anonymous | reply 131 | February 19, 2020 6:21 PM |
R131.. maybe the previous "poster" meant she hadn't moved in her mind, not literally physically or geographically? just saying...
by the way, where HAS Fran moved to previously outside of manhattan.. just curious...
by Anonymous | reply 132 | February 19, 2020 6:44 PM |
R132 not 131 but agree with your general point. In any event, she probably moved from West 12th street to West 10th street ...
by Anonymous | reply 133 | February 19, 2020 6:46 PM |
She was so wrong about Hillary.
by Anonymous | reply 134 | February 19, 2020 6:49 PM |
Has she ever been to Indiana? I doubt it. She has no understanding of what Pete Buttigieg is “electable” to in this country.
Mainstream America is sick of New Yorkers shoving your trash down our throats. We don’t want your failed Mayors, your failed Real Estate Tycoons, tour failed Senators, or any other of your political garbage attempting to get our votes.
by Anonymous | reply 135 | February 19, 2020 6:50 PM |
But mainstream America DID elect "your failed Real Estate Tycoons." It did, it did.

by Anonymous | reply 137 | February 19, 2020 7:14 PM |
Fran makes her money on the lecture circuit and has ben all over USA many many times. For crissakes your homos snarking on Fran and yet know nothing about her, and she's a completely open book.

She moved her bedroom to a new room when she converted her 1 bedroom on 11th Street to a 2 bedroom when a neighbor sadly passed and she bought the contiguous apartment.
by Anonymous | reply 140 | February 19, 2020 7:25 PM |
Blame the candidates, R135, you idiot, not NYC.
by Anonymous | reply 141 | February 19, 2020 7:27 PM |
R130, when you live in Manhattan, YOU DON'T NEED TO LEAVE YOUR BLOCK.
by Anonymous | reply 142 | February 19, 2020 7:50 PM |
Fran regularly drives to Connecticut, sans E-Z Pass.

[quote]Warren wasn’t even viable in NH which is a state tailor made for her. She’s finished.
New Hampshire borders Massachusetts but they're completely different states. New Hampshire is mostly conservative (unlike its neighbor Vermont) and is hardly tailor-made for Elizabeth Warren.

Many of the New Hampshire voters are in the Boston media market.

I love that movie she was in with Mel Gibson. She played in photographer. The Year of living dangerously. And Kindergarten cop with Arnold Schwarzenegger.

No, darling, but I don't see everything through a political binary.
We're at the point where expressing a preference for romaine over arugula is going to be analyzed through a ridiculous forced political lens, aren't we?
by Anonymous | reply 153 | February 19, 2020 11:58 PM |
Fran Lebowitz represents a New York that barely exists anymore, intellectual, fucking hilarious and uncompromising. I love the way she looks, I love the way she sounds and I always am up to listen to what she has to say.
Even if you don't agree with her, she is worth listening to. Perhaps ESPECIALLY if you don't agree with her she is worth listening to

by Anonymous | reply 155 | February 20, 2020 1:13 AM |
Does Fram have lung cancer yet? She smokes three cigarettes at a time. Her taxes should go up dramatically under a Sanders Presidency. Why should I have to pay for Medicare for this chain-smoking moron???
by Anonymous | reply 156 | February 20, 2020 1:17 AM |
I thought she finally quite smoking. Did she start up again?
by Anonymous | reply 157 | February 20, 2020 1:20 AM |
r157 There is no way she quit smoking. We'd know.
by Anonymous | reply 158 | February 20, 2020 1:30 AM |
Fran has never quit smoking. And now that she's around 70, she probably doesn't see any point in doing so.
by Anonymous | reply 159 | February 20, 2020 1:31 AM |
"I thought she finally quite smoking."
HA HA, what planet are you dialing in from?
by Anonymous | reply 160 | February 20, 2020 1:36 AM |
Piss off, R160. I distinctly remember reading a piece of hers in which she talking about having quit smoking.
I guess it didn't last.
by Anonymous | reply 161 | February 20, 2020 1:42 AM |
Take your medication and lie down, you touchy asshole know nothing R161. Fran Lebowitz stopped smoking on a flight to Australia because she had to. Went back to smoking as she stepped off the plane.
by Anonymous | reply 162 | February 20, 2020 1:46 AM |
I read a couple interviews Fran did about her trip to Australia and she was panic-stricken at the thought of having to go 14 or however many hours it was without smoking. She was afraid that by the time the plane landed, they'd be hauling her off in handcuffs.
by Anonymous | reply 163 | February 20, 2020 1:55 AM |
Who cares if she smokes. She's freaking old. Gonna die in a few years anyways. Let her lit up.
by Anonymous | reply 164 | February 20, 2020 2:18 AM |
[quote]She's freaking old. Gonna die in a few years anyways. Let her lit up.
She needs to shut her trap. I’m not sure how she’s able to constantly make such tone-deaf comments about Americans, since she has a cigarette in her mouth 24/7.
by Anonymous | reply 165 | February 20, 2020 3:26 AM |
R151--Fran isn't running for office.
R156--callingn her a morn is moronic. You can't listen to her and say she's dumb. You, on the other hand...
No, R161, she never said that ever, in an interview r anywhere else.
R164--so might you, or even sooner. I wouldn't be so fucking smug, Mary.
Does she need to "shut her trap," R165? Would that make you feel less threatened?

See the personal section of her Wikipedia page. It states only:
[quote]Lebowitz is a lesbian.
It is attributed to this article which describes her as:

by Anonymous | reply 172 | February 20, 2020 4:40 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 173 | February 20, 2020 4:44 AM |
R171 I know right because having a cell phone or computer is just soooo plebeian. About as much so as not going to college.
I didn’t even know that shit about her until you just posted it, which just proves my point even more. And you’re telling me her shtick isn’t tired and stale?
by Anonymous | reply 174 | February 20, 2020 7:48 AM |
She seems like a professional contrarian. If tomorrow everybody stops using technological gizmos, she’ll be the first one to empty out the Manhattan Apple store.
by Anonymous | reply 175 | February 20, 2020 10:38 AM |
Warning - this will hurt your delicate feelings.
by Anonymous | reply 176 | February 20, 2020 1:05 PM |
Shows how little you know about her, R175.
I don't know, R174.Why don't you ask all the thousands of people who pay to see her speak on tours if they're tired of her "shtick." So no, your point isn't proven. If owning computers and cell phones made people more interesting, then everyone would be.

How does ANYONE think a shrill New England school m'arm with a totally self-inflicted "fauxcahontas" problem, who was a staunch Reagan Republican while all my friends were dying of AIDS is so fucking wonderful? She can NOT beat Trump in a million years!
"Character is Destiny" and I don't think Warren has ANY. She seems like a slippery opportunist to me. How are people so easily fooled?

by Anonymous | reply 187 | February 21, 2020 4:27 AM |
Warren is a pathologic liar and a phony. And her shrill university professor idealism is retarded for someone her old age. I love when she blasted Bloomie as morally bankrupt but in the same breath says she'll vote for the nominee regardless. What a spineless frau. But I'll give her this, her Ruth Buzzi impersonation is spot on.

Oh, dear, R186.
"who was a staunch Reagan Republican while all my friends were dying of AIDS"
Oh double, triple dear. She is a very-left-of-center Democrat who has gone on record as such and who has spoken poignantly about her close friends who died of AIDS--Peter Hujar, David Wojanorowicz, etc.
You, R186, are a true moron.

Oh, DEAR!
Do you not have Google at your group home? Try looking up the many and varied tales Liz has told about her conversion from staunch Tragan Republican to darling of the not-very-discerning left! She was a fucking Republican until somewhere around Bill Clinton's reelection in '96, but the story changes a lot.
None of this is a secret....unless one is truly a moron!

I love Fran but I do wish she would get her shirtsleeves and suits sorted out. Her sleeves are too long and her jackets don't fit. It looks as if she's wearing her father's clothes.
