New Bloomberg Ad Scorches “Abusive Bernie Bros”

The Wrap reports:

In the ad, posted early Monday morning, tweets from a handful of Sanders backers, featuring memes and hashtags like #BernieOrElse, appear on the screen. “Vote Bernie or bad things will happen,” warns one tweet.

Another says, “Libs who are flirting with Bloomberg now should be aware that they are going on lists. Next time they pretend to care about racism or sexual harassment or really anything other than money and power, we will remember what they were doing right now and we will remind everyone.”

Those are followed by screenshots of what appear to be harassing text messages purportedly sent by Sanders supporters to Democrats not inclined to vote for him in the primary, as well as headlines from prominent news outlets highlighting the harassment.

This should be good. It’s like putting a stick in a hornets’ nest.

by Anonymousreply 1February 17, 2020 4:38 PM

How is Bloomberg the only one putting out ads like this? Why won't anyone else?

Biden has brought this up a few times but the media doesn't seem that interested, for some reason.

by Anonymousreply 2February 17, 2020 4:39 PM

I think it’s great. Bloomberg clearly has a New York media operation that has enough street-fighter instinct in them to want to go all in on the fight — but enough smarts to know when to hold back.

by Anonymousreply 3February 17, 2020 4:53 PM

This is a freaking FANTASTIC ad. And the responses to it from Bernie Bros completely prove how toxic they are.

by Anonymousreply 4February 17, 2020 4:54 PM

Why are they so fascinated by gulags?

by Anonymousreply 5February 17, 2020 5:01 PM

I sure am glad that the Democratic party now has a real Democrat running who's decided to finally take on all of the internet's trolls; obviously it's everyone's #1 concern... Health care -- more like who cares? Not when someone was mean to me on Twitter!

by Anonymousreply 6February 17, 2020 5:01 PM

You're completely missing the point, R6

If you have a campaign that is so toxic that it attacks every other campaign and their supporters, how does that help us beat Trump in 2020? It doesn't. All it will do will suppress votes. Toxic Bernie supporters are not just turning people off, but they're endangering them. Did you NOT see the "We know where you live. We know where your children go to school" threats that are part of the commercial? How the fuck is this toxic environment helping anyone?

And it's not "Someone was mean to me on Twitter". It's dealing with bullies like they SHOULD be dealt with, by calling them out.

by Anonymousreply 7February 17, 2020 5:07 PM

Sanders supporters are incredibly hostile to all the other candidates. Bloomberg isn't afraid of calling them out. Apparently, Bloomberg is set to win California from what I hear. This will give him a HUGE boost.

by Anonymousreply 8February 17, 2020 5:08 PM

No he isn’t r8. lol. Bernie is leading by 20 points.

by Anonymousreply 9February 17, 2020 5:10 PM

RCP average has Bernie up by less than 5, NOT 20.

by Anonymousreply 10February 17, 2020 5:14 PM

As Bernie continues to secure the nomination the false equivalence against him is obviously going to ratchet up. Yes, R7, undoubtedly there probably is some anarchist nut on Twitter that is a piece of shit, but to equivocate that crap to Bernie, or to the supporters behind him at large, reeks of desperation.

by Anonymousreply 11February 17, 2020 5:14 PM

"Could I stop them? Yes. Will I? Eh..."

by Anonymousreply 12February 17, 2020 5:17 PM

The campaign to post snakes to Warren's tweets and other social media posts wasn't done by "some anarchist nut on Twitter". It was a coordinated attack by THOUSANDS of Bernie supporters.

The campaign to post "Mayo Pete" and rat emojis to Buttigieg's tweets and other social media posts wasn't done by "some anarchist nut on Twitter". It was a coordinated attack by THOUSANDS of Bernie supporters.

And saying that people pointing out toxic Bernie bros is "reeking of desperation"? Fuck you. It's the fucking truth.

by Anonymousreply 13February 17, 2020 5:19 PM

Thousands?! It's a goddamn conspiracy of sass! It's not like the whole political machine is admittedly against seeing Sanders become the nominee, or anything...

Even though you told me to go fuck myself, I still try to create meaningful dialogue with you Never-Bernie types. Here's the secret to Bernie's success: he doesn't give a shit about winning on social media. You are equating social media monsters whose sole goal is to provoke you, with the rest of us that are phone banking, canvassing, doing actual work to see our candidate get elected. If you truly wish to beat Trump, and if Bernie doesn't get nominated, I pray your candidate of choice is also able to have that kind of ground-game, as opposed to just whining about how Trump and his people being are toxic by being mean online. I'm sure Bloomberg already has an ad for that.

by Anonymousreply 14February 17, 2020 5:37 PM

Judge Judy has endorsed him. At least she’s off of the Trump train. Ugh.

by Anonymousreply 15February 17, 2020 5:49 PM

R10, your link shows Bernie up by 20 over Bloomberg, which is what I think R9 meant.

by Anonymousreply 16February 17, 2020 5:52 PM

Not too sure how Bloomberg is going to far though. SUPPOSEDLY, there is proof that he is a closet racist (videos and audios) that will be coming out soon. Heard on my drive into work today (KFI), granted it was a right leaning radio station but the commentator is credit worthy.

Time will tell but all of this will again lead to Trump's winning the election as everyone is going to turn on each other and people will stay away on election day - hope I'm wrong though.

by Anonymousreply 17February 17, 2020 5:53 PM

These Bernie Bros. are fucking socialists; they're full out Stalinist Bolsheviks.

by Anonymousreply 18February 17, 2020 5:57 PM

My neighbor lives in a $10,000,000 house and he has bernie signs out front

by Anonymousreply 19February 17, 2020 6:10 PM

I'm glad someone with $$$$ is pointing out the toxicity of Sanders and his acolytes before it's being pointed out by the media, Republicans and everyone with functioning brain STEM as an October 'surprise'.

by Anonymousreply 20February 17, 2020 7:37 PM

[quote] Another says, “Libs who are flirting with Bloomberg now should be aware that they are going on lists. Next time they pretend to care about racism or sexual harassment or really anything other than money and power, we will remember what they were doing right now and we will remind everyone.”

Well, then that's an example of conservatives or Russian bots interfering.

No Democrat alive says "libs."

by Anonymousreply 24February 17, 2020 9:29 PM

r2 Bloomberg has spent over $420 million dollars on ads thus far. He can afford it.

The other candidate - max - is $50 million (Bernie) followed by $40 million (Pete).

They are focusing on campaign ads trying to tell voters what they are all about, not broadsides against specific candidates.

by Anonymousreply 25February 17, 2020 9:38 PM

That's some nasty karma coming their way for that, R23. Among so many other things. I just hope its soon.

God, please. Let it be soon.

by Anonymousreply 26February 17, 2020 9:45 PM

Dying in a grease fire is too good for the BBs.

by Anonymousreply 27February 17, 2020 9:46 PM

They're so sure they'll win California. I'll make a prediction here that he won't win CA. I may be wrong but turnout has been huge in NH and NV, but it doesn't look like it's huge among the Bernie types. It's moderates coming out to vote against that toxic POS Bernie and his Bros.

by Anonymousreply 28February 17, 2020 10:22 PM

R28 Sanders lost more in anti-Clinton votes than he gained in pro-Sanders votes, so far, but he's absolutely gained significantly in pro-Sanders votes. There's also a layer of grown but softer support for him that has their first/higher choice in Biden, Warren, Buttigieg though. His base has grown but now there's plenty flashier objects (candidates) than him this time, especially as his message is older now, and the negative sentiment many had towards the Clintons isn't nearly so much a factor anymore.

That's not me saying all his success in 2016 was Hillary hate, but it was one of the drivers as it was in 2008 for Obama (and conversely, PUMA).

This time, Sanders has had to more realistically rise his support and not rely on surges. This has been working, but not as high as his campaign may have been expecting or at least hoping. However, with a more-likely-than-not win in Nevada, it'll place him first in delegates before Super Tuesday, with potential to keep that up if he does even better than most earlier expected in South Carolina. Then, objectively (even if he 2nds in SC), he's still more successful in the actual race metrics than his time in 2016.

by Anonymousreply 29February 18, 2020 12:17 AM

Buttigieg is getting my vote in the CA primary. I want him to go to the convention with as much power as possible.

by Anonymousreply 30February 18, 2020 12:24 AM

[quote] SUPPOSEDLY, there is proof that he is a closet racist (videos and audios) that will be coming out soon. Heard on my drive into work today (KFI), granted it was a right leaning radio station but the commentator is credit worthy.

There is already video and audio of this.

However, the media has been quick to wait until someone is the "front runner" until they start lobbing bombshells left and right about them so they can maximize their clicks.

It has happened to Pete, it happened to Elizabeth and even Joe. When it's Boomberg's turn they will demolish him and everyone had better hope it happens soon because if he becomes the nominee (I really don't think he will but I can't predict anything these days) the media will come for him hard. They won't care that the Dem nominee is our chance to save this country. The media has no conscience.

by Anonymousreply 31February 18, 2020 1:02 AM

The media has done nothing but be up Warren's ass, R31. They've sort of abandoned her now for Amy because they see the writing on the wall after the first 2 elections.

Mine too, R30.

by Anonymousreply 32February 18, 2020 5:00 AM

Bloomberg wants to be president and specifically wants to go head-to-head against Trump, but the opposition's supporters are so mean to him! :(

by Anonymousreply 33February 18, 2020 6:00 AM

Finally someone's calling out the cult.

by Anonymousreply 34February 18, 2020 6:06 AM

R7, Video clips of Bloomberg's extremely racist, insulting comments are circulating on the internet. Even though I'm not Black or Latina I am still deeply offended. Clearly he's an elitist jerk and a put-down artist in the extreme.

by Anonymousreply 35February 18, 2020 6:25 AM

This video is so much more entertaining than the debates.

by Anonymousreply 36February 18, 2020 6:32 AM

by Anonymousreply 37February 18, 2020 6:59 AM

R7,

R6 does get it.

You—and Michael Bloomberg—are out of touch.

by Anonymousreply 38February 18, 2020 7:48 AM

[quote]Even though I'm not Black or Latina I am still deeply offended.

If you're not Black or Latina, you can't feel offended because of your privilege. Don't you know anything??

by Anonymousreply 39February 18, 2020 2:56 PM

Bloomberg should just be honest. He's scared shitless Bernie will make him pay some taxes.

by Anonymousreply 40February 18, 2020 3:18 PM

Do you actually have any links r35 or are you just spreading fake news?

by Anonymousreply 41February 18, 2020 4:01 PM

He’s running for office only to settle old scores with the orange turd in office now...there’s no altruism involved.Bloomberg is an elitist, borderline racist rich guy who wants power. I don’t like him any more than I do Trump.

by Anonymousreply 42February 18, 2020 4:05 PM

If you don't see the difference between him (as flawed as he is) and Trump, you're the problem, R42.

by Anonymousreply 43February 18, 2020 4:06 PM

r42, He originally entered the race because he was frightened that Liz Warren seemed to be gaining traction .Now it's his mission to stop Bernie. He doesn't care if Trump gets elected but having to pay taxes is too much of a burden for him to bear.

by Anonymousreply 44February 18, 2020 4:07 PM

R41, Of course I have clips. On DL i linked a very damning article written by a respected Black journalist during Bloomberg's term as mayor of how we really got elected by vote buying in the Black community.

However every time I post links I'm told "to go back to LSA" or another site. Actually I don't know how to link videos which aren't on YouTube. Truth is DL doesn't want to hear opposition yet complains about authoritarian politicians.

by Anonymousreply 45February 18, 2020 5:56 PM

The pro Bernie Twitter accounts are absolutely losing their minds over this ad, they're beside themselves with anger and throwing out every excuse they can think of to try to make themselves feel better.

They gambled and lost with their four years of attacking Democrats, including the Culinary Union in Nevada and AOC protesting Pelosi on her first day on the hill, and all the booing the Bros did in the 2016 primaries, drowning out women and the Black Democratic Caucus because they were being spoiled babies.

by Anonymousreply 46February 18, 2020 6:03 PM

R41, I think they're just audio clips. They've already been around a week, I don't think they're going to do more damage at this point.

by Anonymousreply 51February 18, 2020 6:21 PM

He has nothing on Bernie, so he has to attack his supporters. BTW Bernie already disavowed his toxic supporters several times.

Let's bring up how many of Bloomberg's supporters are wealthy elites who don't give a damn about anything but their pockets.

by Anonymousreply 52February 18, 2020 6:23 PM

Wow! I'm Team Pete all the way, BUT, these Bloomberg ads are what I've been waiting for. I do like how civil and thoughtful Pete is, but civility doesn't seem to be working right now. Honestly, Bloomberg's ads are everything. To me, Pete is more presidential, he's what I'm longing for to represent our country. If it takes these going right for the jugular Bloomberg ads to get rid of Trump and his administration, I'm all for it. I can patiently wait for a Pete presidency in 2024 if necessary.

by Anonymousreply 53February 18, 2020 6:23 PM

Poor bigoted oligarch. All he can do is go after #yanggang supporters posing as "Bernie Bros" (look at the hashtag in the tweets included in the ad). Seems like Doomsberg is desperate. He has to attack anonymous strangers and post their info on a national ad quite possibly endangering their lives.

Meanwhile, this is a SUBSTANTIVE ad:

Bloomberg seems to forget he'll need Bernie supporters if he is able to buy the nomination

by Anonymousreply 63February 18, 2020 9:14 PM

The progressive left wants to burn down the Democratic Party in order to "save it." And if that means another 4 years of Trump, then at least they will have their political purity intact, not that it will count for anything. And once the GOP finishes turning the judicial branch into a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Federalist Society (I don't believe RGB will last another 4 years), they can kiss their "democratic socialist paradise" goodbye for at least a generation. Any major progressive legislation - should it even get passed - will be blocked by the courts and that will be the end of it until we have courts that will overturn those rulings.

It's telling that they only try to disrupt the gatherings of other Democrat candidates rather than Trump rallies, probably because they're scared that they'll get smacked around in the latter case. Such brave little souls.

by Anonymousreply 64February 18, 2020 9:33 PM

Very well put, R64.

by Anonymousreply 65February 18, 2020 9:36 PM

Bloomberg would be a total disaster for the working class if his actions in New York are anything to go by. It's amazing how little he thinks of the American people if he thinks he can buy votes with some TV ads. I look forward to proving him wrong.

I don't agree with this viewpoint, but I can understand it. The more shit that I see trump getting away with and everyone just going along with it and the dems being weak as usual, the more I don't care if trump gets re-elected. I'm almost 60, I have money and I don't have kids. No matter who gets in office, I'll be okay. But I'm tired of caring more about the future of people's kids than they do.

If the repug citizens don't give a fuck and the majority of dem citizens don't vote, they all deserve what they get. They're doing this to their own kids. People are only going to learn when they don't have jobs, have no insurance, their kids schools fail everyone, there's no clean air, water or safe food to eat. And not even then.

I loathe them.

by Anonymousreply 75February 19, 2020 12:10 PM

Further to R64's point, one of the things the big-name Sanders pundits have been saying online is that when he gets the nomination, they'll be attacking Republicans instead of Democrats.

Agreed with R64 that they're too scared to, but also feel that the few who WOULD attack Republicans would soon find both sides are sharing the same memes and using the same bullying tactics. Already I'm seeing shitposting BernieBros who run into Trumpsters on Twitter threads and say hey, you're not so bad, man.
