Best Anti-virus Program?

I'm looking to buy a new anti-virus program for my pc but none of the tech sites seem to agree which is the best.

Windows Defender and Malwarebytes.

Condom usage.

BitDefender seems to be doing great in most reviews. I've understood people usually couple it with the free version of Malwarebytes. I personally haven't used paid anti-virus software for years. I get by with the free versions of Avast and Malwarebytes, plus I use SUPERAntiSpyware twice a week to purge all unwanted cookies etc.

I do tend to visit porn sites etc. which regularly try to infect me with spyware etc. but anti-virus runs haven't found anything from my computers for years. It does help that I'm using AdBlock and NoScript-add on (you have to authorize links to other sites by hand when visiting sites) and those mostly stop the attacks. BTW, spyware and trojans are normal on Macs as well, just a note to gloating Macheads ;)

An Apple Mac.

I buy Mcafee for $25 on Amazon. It has something that prevents all videos from playing when you go to a website. I can't stand when videos automatically play

Another vote for Windows Defender and Malwarebytes. Light on your system and working well with each other.

Go get scammed by lifelock!

AVG in combination with C-Cleaner. Those two were put on my machine by a really good data recovery guy and I have not had a virus in 10 years! Use the free versions. Mcafee is crap. Defender is crap. Malwarebytes is OK for malware only.

For my money it's Avast.

R9, I sometimes use CCleaner but they've had a few security breaches and hackers have infiltrated their systems. In 2017 they even managed to start spreading malware through CCleaner, if I remember correctly. That's when I stopped using CCleaner regularly. Avast owns CCleaner, and Avast themselves had an extremely embarrassing event a couple years back where their supposedly super safe browser was infiltrated as well. Avast also made a big mistake a year or two ago where their browser protection started giving false positives on sites that were perfectly safe. I personally made myself look like a fool when I started getting malware notices on a freelancing site I use and reported them one by one to the site admins. When I noticed Avast was giving way too many warnings I took a look at the Avast forums and found out it was all Avast's fault. I felt like a total tool and apologized the freelancing site admins profusely for the incident and obviously blamed Avast. Still, better the devil you know which is why I still use Avast. I don't necessarily trust them completely but they seem to be able to keep my computers clean.

As a side note I have to say I always keep a totally clean carbon copy of my Windows 10 installation on an external hard drive. Ransom malware sometimes stays dormant for a long time before activating which means a computer might be infected without you even realizing yet. The reality is there's a ton of malware around that's undetectable by current anti-virus programs and you never know when you might get hit. If some random ransomware malware takes my computer hostage I just wipe the drive clean and install a clean carbon copy from the external drive. Hasn't happened yet but I've lost so many hours of work before I started taking backups regularly that I've taken precautions for various scenarios.

Every Anit-Virus program has a had a few security breaches r11. None are perfect.

That said, the smartest thing to do is install windows and all your programs on the main C drive and all your content on a D drive or other internal drive. Then before surfing on the internet, do a System Image backup of the C drive with all your programs. It's an exact copy of the whole drive, think of it as a clone. That way if you ever get a virus, all you have to do is restore the System Image and it will compleatly wipe what was there and put it back to normal with all the programs working like they did before the virus. With all your personal data on another drive, you dont have to worry about your content being infected, you dont have to reinstall all the other programs and backups are much faster as well.

Avast bought AVG back in 2016.

They are still different programs R13. Disney bought Star Wars and they remain independent in terms of style an content.

Don't bother reading the novellas posted by the self absorbed blowhards upthread.

Keep it simple,

Windows defender and MW bytes free. And pay attention to what your doing. No AV/MW protection can save you if you give something permission to fuck with your system.

Avast shares your data. Run from people who recommend.

Today I got the itch to switch. I like Avast but for some reason it takes Avast forever to load up on every computer I own. So since AVG is pretty much the same program I decided to try the free version just to see if it loaded any faster. No comparison. AVG literally loads up in 1/5th the time it takes Avast. So I went ahead and upgraded to the pro version.

I liked BitDefender but I had to put off my automatic payment and there was no place to do it so I finally had to email them and I told them to just remove my account entirely and when I tried looking them up online a lot of the top Google queries were Is BitDefender A Scam?
