Newsweek: BERNIE SANDERS LEADS DONALD TRUMP BY WIDEST MARGIN OF ALL 2020 CANDIDATES: ELECTION POLL

Senator Bernie Sanders leads President Donald Trump by the widest margin of all the candidates in the Democratic Party's 2020 race when Americans are asked to choose in a face-off against the Republican incumbent, according to a poll.

SurveyUSA asked 4,069 registered voters nationwide how they would vote in an election today if Trump was pitted against each of the 2020 candidates in the Democratic race. The progressive Vermont independent came out on top.

The poll found that 52 percent of voters would choose Sanders and 43 percent Trump, giving the veteran senator a nine-point lead. Next was former vice president Joe Biden at 50 percent to Trump's 43 percent, a seven-point lead.

Michael Bloomberg, the media and financial data billionaire, also led Trump by seven points at 49 percent to 42 percent. Democratic Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren leads Trump 48 percent to 45 percent, a three-point advantage.

Yeah, good luck with that.

by Anonymousreply 1January 23, 2020 1:33 AM

I'll take Bloomberg, thank you. He comes with money and policies that don't scare people. I'll wait for another Elizabeth Warren type that wants change without full blown Socialism to come around in 2024 or 2028.

by Anonymousreply 2January 23, 2020 1:33 AM

Next week it will be someone else.

by Anonymousreply 3January 23, 2020 1:33 AM

I keep saying Bernie for the win. People won't listen. He is the only one who can beat him.

by Anonymousreply 4January 23, 2020 1:33 AM

National surveys don't matter. The popular vote doesn't matter. What matters is winning in enough swing states to win the Electoral College.

by Anonymousreply 5January 23, 2020 1:34 AM

It’s obvious now that Senator Sanders has been on an upward surge. A stunning outcome when one considers how much he’s had to rail against.

Actually, it’s stunning DESPITE what he’s endured.

by Anonymousreply 6January 23, 2020 1:35 AM

Even if this is true - and that is an enormous IF - there are no world records to be had. Winning is winning by whatever margin.

Also, if he were the candidate and did win, we'd have to live with him as president. More pointedly, we'd have to run the risk of his losing the next election, rather than having a strong candidate that can go the distance for two terms.

by Anonymousreply 7January 23, 2020 1:36 AM

I'm starting to warm towards Bernie.

by Anonymousreply 8January 23, 2020 1:40 AM

R7 Oh, he WILL go the distance.

And he’s going to hit the bull’s fucking eye.

R31 Trump is done. He’s an Impeached President and will be referred to as such for the duration of his life. His mandate is to get the fuck out of the White House.

As for Bernie and Liz, they will expertly diagram for the people what exactly is going on:

Republicans along with a certain faction of the Democratic Party, are looking to eliminate ALL forms of socialism in the United States, including Social Security and Medicare. I mean, we have PLENTY of evidence to prove this.

The United States of America is a SOCIAL DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC.

by Anonymousreply 40January 23, 2020 4:34 PM

My vote won't count because I live in a winner-takes-all-electors deep red state .. but I will be voting whoever the Dem nominee is.

Let the pollsters study the voting patterns after the election and I hope they'll see they no longer have a guaranteed, sure-fire lock on white voters because their numbers fell from 2016. I'll regard that as the best election outcome I can have.

by Anonymousreply 41January 23, 2020 4:35 PM

The question is will Bernie make it to November without another heart attack.

by Anonymousreply 42January 23, 2020 4:35 PM

I repeat for your benefit, R40:

Trump is done.

I mean, we have PLENTY of evidence to prove this.

by Anonymousreply 43January 23, 2020 4:38 PM

Look, I will vote for whomever the Democratic nominee is BUT Sanders will be a hold my nose and vote candidate. I think that his supporters are just as frantic as Trump supporters and it makes me very uncomfortable. I also believe he is partly to blame from Trump's victory in 2016, and there is a part of me that feels he wanted Trump to win so he could run again in 2020.

by Anonymousreply 44January 23, 2020 4:41 PM

R44 Aren’t you a Dump supporter, though?

by Anonymousreply 45January 23, 2020 4:47 PM

R45 In fact, I'm not! I have never voted for the GOP. I voted for Clinton in 2016, and Obama before that. It is possible to be a democrat and think that Bernie Sanders is a idiot. Currently I am supporting Warren.

by Anonymousreply 46January 23, 2020 4:53 PM

R46 Okay. I’m a Democrat and support Bernie. I supported him in the ‘16 primary, but voted for Clinton in the general.

Warren is my second pick.
The IRA’s first step was to build a network of accounts. Its social media activities started in 2014, seeking to create individual impersonation accounts meant to look like Americans, particularly on Facebook.
Step two was audience growth. The IRA did so by creating pages and content that were not necessarily political or even divisive, but simply meant to attract more eyeballs to IRA-controlled pages and accounts. By early 2015, the IRA had turned to audience-building around divisive social issues by creating social media groups and pages posing as U.S. groups and activists, such as “Secured Borders” and “Blacktivist” (see pages 22-25 of the Special Counsel report).
Step three was to turn this network political. It was only once the IRA established its audience base that it turned explicitly to the U.S. elections around February 2016, with the explicit goal of undermining the Clinton campaign. Instructions to the IRA read, at the time: “Main idea: use any opportunity to criticize Hillary [Clinton] and the rest (except [bold]Sanders and Trump – we support them[/bold])” (p. 25).
What matters is winning in enough swing states to win the Electoral College.

Bernie is actually more popular in the midwest than Biden. The only midwestern state where Biden does better than Sanders is PA. Sanders is very popular in MI, WI and MN.

The Morning Consult poll released yesterday showed Sanders doing better with Independents than Biden. That's really the most important metric to determine who is best to beat Trump. And if you add in the fact that young voters are a lot more inclined to vote if Sanders is the nominee, then I think it's clear that he's the most electable.

Sanders has to pick a VP that will appeal to black voters and not scare off suburban women.

by Anonymousreply 70January 23, 2020 7:10 PM

What a rough couple of years, first I had to accept Trump winning the WH, now I have to accept Bernie as a (potential) nominee? It’s like my least favorite people from 2016 are coming back to haunt me. I’ll fall in line, but this would be disheartening if Bernie takes the nomination.

Bad enough that I had to put up with Hillary’s crazy campaign, so I guess 4 more years of crazy won’t be the end of the world. I voted for President for the first time in 2012. How we went from near perfect to great candidates like Obama to this current batch is beyond me.

As a staunch Obama supprter I’m not sure what supposed to be appealing about Bernie.

It's getting pretty scary and it's only January. The Warren thing activated the BernieBro trolls and shit has been nuts ever since. Ain't nobody really scared of a socialist promising free stuff. Like history has shown, white folks don't really want to share with Blacks and Latinos. So though they say they like what Bernie is saying, it never shows at the ballot box.

Convincing folks that Trump and team are scared of a Bernie nomination is laughable because such a nomination all but guarantees a GOP win in the House, Senate and the Presidency. Then, the world is doomed! Trump will get more SCOTUS justices and continue to fill the federal court system.

A Bernie Sanders nomination could literally be the death of us all.

Why do Gay Men hate Bernie so? He is pro-gay marriage (was pro-gay marriage his whole life), long before Hillary was. I read a thread on reddit, where the young gay guys felt it was an age issue. Young gay men (i.e., under age 30) are over-whelmingly pro-Bernie. As age increases, Bernie support in the gay male community falls off. So it is age-related.

So eldergays, explain. What have you got against him? He is a populist He is in favor of cutting everybody some slack. Why do you hate him? And before you say it is because Trump will win, Hillary actually proved that model and y'all still love her. So what is up?

To support Sanders, you either have to ignore all American political history, or you have to not care about backing the guy who gives Trump a second term. Even if he won, the potential for a disastrous presidency is greater than the potential for a successful or neutral term. Believing this is either naive or arrogant, which is why Sanders supporters do not do well on this site.

by Anonymousreply 112January 26, 2020 2:00 AM

The Berners have crossed the rubicon into pure Stepford Wives-like hysteria!

They just keep posting "Bernie is winning! Bernie is winning! Bernie is winning!" en masse! They have declared their allegiance to their cult leader!

If Bernie is doing so well, in which states is he grabbing big delegate totals? ANY fool who thinks a Socialist/Communist Russia-loving, deadbeat dad, elderly do-nothing Senator who REFUSES to work with people, and is DESPISED by those who actually know him, (other than his entire family who are on the campaign payroll making hundreds of thousand of dollars), is going to win ANY Presidential nominating election let alone beat Donald Trump is MENTALLY ILL!

Super Tuesday is Bernie's LAST DAY as a competing potential Democratic nominee, as he will be mathematically eliminated on that day! The following day will be the first day of Bernie Sanders' campaign AGAINST ALL DEMOCRATS (you see, I NEVER was one of THEM!), basically once more becoming part of the Trump campaign!

The Jacobin (gag!) will write MANY articles telling us that ANY Democrat still in the race is JUST AS BAD as Trump, of not worse, which basically they are already doing!

Mark my words and check back. If I'm wrong I'll admit it, but I'm not wrong!
