Gladys Knight.
Favorite voice of mine.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | January 20, 2020 1:11 AM |
George Michael for sure. The hard question is if he could only sing one song which one would I pick. Now that takes some thought.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | January 20, 2020 1:26 AM |
R8 that was my same thought process.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | January 20, 2020 1:28 AM |
John Lennon
by Anonymous | reply 10 | January 20, 2020 1:30 AM |
George Michael for sure. I've been listening to him a lot recently, what a voice. Still breaks my heart that he's no longer with us.

by Anonymous | reply 28 | January 20, 2020 3:24 AM |
I wouldn't want them to come by my house and sing for me privately.
I'd want to be in a small venue 50-100 people all excited to see the performance.
These types of people perform their best in front of crowds of adoring fans. I think we'd all be a bit disappointed at the low energy performance singing in the living room would yield.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | January 20, 2020 3:35 AM |
R8/R9 Kissing a Fool.

Freddie.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | January 20, 2020 3:57 AM |
R30 You've picked one of George's best that's for sure. I put "One More Try" on the list too. If we really want to torture ourselves think of all the songs that George didn't sing and now that he is gone we wish he had.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | January 20, 2020 3:57 AM |

Fender?
by Anonymous | reply 33 | January 20, 2020 4:03 AM |
Joni Mitchell, no question, although I know she will be livid that she can't smoke in the house.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | January 20, 2020 4:12 AM |
Assuming both would be at their best vocally: Dead: Judy Garland Alive: Joni Mitchell
by Anonymous | reply 35 | January 20, 2020 4:34 AM |

Freddie Mercury, for a night on the town and some lovely tea afterwards.

Hello, Gorgeous
by Anonymous | reply 42 | January 20, 2020 8:26 AM |
Prince makes too many live performance mistakes OP.
Stick with GM.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | January 20, 2020 8:32 AM |
If I had to choose only between those two, it would be George Michael. If not, Freddie Mercury.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | January 20, 2020 9:08 AM |
Peggy Lee

Bobby Darin...or Kevin Spacey portraying Bobby Darin
by Anonymous | reply 46 | January 20, 2020 9:34 AM |
Cobain. In my garage. Just yelling his ass off. Or Bowie.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | January 20, 2020 9:48 AM |
What a tough question OP. I think I would choose Ray Charles although it is close with Marvin Gaye..but then we need Tammi Terrell and what about David Ruffin? Too hard to decide.

by Anonymous | reply 53 | January 20, 2020 8:26 PM |
Florence Foster Jenkins.
But I'd send her to M's house.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | January 20, 2020 8:31 PM |
Oh lordy lordy the Belinda Carlisle stan lives!
by Anonymous | reply 55 | January 20, 2020 8:36 PM |
R55 There are at least 3 of us currently on the DL.
Maybe you should call us a trio when you do your future bitching.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | January 20, 2020 8:39 PM |
Of course: Freddie, what a stupid question...
by Anonymous | reply 57 | January 20, 2020 8:59 PM |
R58 I don't know about Whitney. She'd show up a few days late with some freebase and a pipe but I doubt she'd sing
by Anonymous | reply 59 | January 20, 2020 9:37 PM |
Prince. I want to see what he will be wearing. He will bring the diva fun performance and start playing guitar.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | January 20, 2020 9:41 PM |
Karen Carpenter
by Anonymous | reply 63 | January 20, 2020 9:55 PM |
R63 yes, although make sure not to offer Karen anything to eat.

R66 lmao
by Anonymous | reply 68 | January 20, 2020 10:09 PM |
Hozier. It would make my life to see him perform just for me or in an intimate venue of less that 25 people.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | January 20, 2020 10:09 PM |
How dare you, r66? How dare you, Sir!
by Anonymous | reply 70 | January 20, 2020 10:11 PM |
Whitney in her prime singing softly in my living room. Her nice quiet vocals like in this video covering The Stylistics “You are everything.”
by Anonymous | reply 71 | January 20, 2020 11:13 PM |
R71 damn her voice gave me chills. Flawless!
by Anonymous | reply 72 | January 21, 2020 3:18 AM |

Pop: Bowie
Rock: Cobain
Standards: Garland
Broadway: Merman
Classical: Callas
by Anonymous | reply 75 | January 22, 2020 8:15 AM |
R67 beat me to it. Ella Fitzgerald's voice is sublime. My favorite dream, which I remember like it was yesterday though it was 15 years ago, is me on the red line on Boston's subway while Ella was sitting across me singing on an empty train. I had been watching a PBS special about her before falling asleep. It was like magic it was so real and wonderful and an amazing gift.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | January 22, 2020 8:36 AM |
R76, that sounds like the best dream! I had a dream that I was in the recording studio watching Sinatra record, it was my favorite dream of all time.
by Anonymous | reply 77 | January 23, 2020 1:08 AM |
I decided, I want David Ruffin, "aint too proud to beg"...but I might cave in.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | January 23, 2020 1:17 AM |
Karen Carpenter. Her voice is so indescribably lovely on record, I would love to hear how it sounded in the air.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | January 23, 2020 1:17 AM |
r79, I don't know what that quality was she had, it was so special. A sort of crispness, and not related to her accent. And it isn't nostalgia I don't think.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | January 23, 2020 1:21 AM |
Karen Carpenter was in a class of her own. It took me to become an adult to really appreciate his voice ... It would have to be George Michael
by Anonymous | reply 81 | January 23, 2020 5:55 AM |
R76 here and I'm losing my mind as I read this thread and what comes on TCM? "Peter Kelley's Blues" 1955 film with Ella Fucking Fitzgerald!!!! I hope I dream of her again tonight! Wow! Awesome coincidence.
by Anonymous | reply 82 | January 23, 2020 7:28 AM |
R55 Belinda rules!
Your Mario at R7 drools!
Nobody has ever heard of him.

David Bowie singing STAY to me.
by Anonymous | reply 85 | January 24, 2020 6:08 PM |
Probably Aimee Mann, though Chryssie Hynde and Morrissey are right there as well.
by Anonymous | reply 86 | January 24, 2020 6:17 PM |
Maurice White. Artist's choice.
by Anonymous | reply 87 | January 24, 2020 6:23 PM |
R87 Earth Wind & Fire were a one of a kind band thanks to White's talents along with the other members. This was at a time when almost all rock/pop/soul bands were awesome. Even so, Earth Wind & Fire were always stand outs.
by Anonymous | reply 88 | January 25, 2020 1:24 AM |
Ann Miller would be the most fun.
by Anonymous | reply 89 | January 25, 2020 1:29 AM |
Lionel Richie
by Anonymous | reply 90 | January 25, 2020 1:31 AM |
Prince
by Anonymous | reply 91 | January 25, 2020 1:51 AM |
George Michael all the way. "Cowboys and Angels" is what I'd request but he could do whatever he liked.
by Anonymous | reply 92 | January 25, 2020 10:43 PM |
R92 I'm with you on "Cowboys & Angels." There is something about that song which really stands out. I've read it described as a jazz waltz tempo. I love the sax in the middle of it. The song just has a flow to it and makes me so wish George was still here to write more like it.
by Anonymous | reply 93 | January 26, 2020 5:23 AM |
Paul Mc Cartney and I'd ask him to sing "Love Me Tender".
What a great question OP, I love these answers.
by Anonymous | reply 94 | January 26, 2020 10:34 AM |
Lou Rawls. That guy had one beautiful voice.
by Anonymous | reply 95 | January 26, 2020 11:38 AM |
Linda Ronstadt, and I'd have her sing "Long, Long Time." No one conveyed the pain of unrequited love like Linda did in that song.
by Anonymous | reply 96 | January 26, 2020 11:41 AM |
Prince for sure for me but I also love the Bowie, Phyllis Hyman, George Michael, kobain answers. The more I ponder this question, the more names come up - Teena Marie, Donny Hathaway, Luther Vandross, Chris Cornelll...I’m sure more will come to me lol
R76 Ashmont or Braintree train? It matters.
by Anonymous | reply 97 | January 26, 2020 8:24 PM |
Did Kobe Bryant ever have a hit song?
by Anonymous | reply 98 | January 26, 2020 8:27 PM |
[quote]while Ella was sitting across me singing on an empty train.
Singing into her purse while she rummages around for her bus pass.
by Anonymous | reply 99 | January 27, 2020 4:30 AM |
Bea Arthur
by Anonymous | reply 100 | January 27, 2020 4:54 AM |
Well, once it would have been Judy Garland, but I figure she's so rotted by this time it would be an unpleasant experience.
