Anyone round here ever a fan of Nancy Sinatra?

She only really had one solo hit, Boots.

Her albums were pretty crappy.

Maybe there's more that I don't know about.

She was a gurl of her time.

Um, hello...

THIS is the go-to version, IMHO.

Meh.

By the time I became aware of her, her father was already in his toxic public persona stage and she and her brother came off as perfect examples of worthless nepotism.

Not that I blame her for taking advantage of the situation. Boots aren't free, even for Frank Sinatra's kid.

Duetting with Dad.

She made some good music, mostly thanks to Lee Hazelwood.

Love the songs Summer Wine, Good Time Girl, and her version of Bang Bang may even be better than Cher's. Quentin Tarantino recognized its brilliance and wisely used it in the beginning of Kill Bill Vol. 1.

Nancy struck at the right time, with the right look, the right sound.

Yes, OP. Nancy Sinatra is a DL fave for years now. Nancy is one of the coolest chick ever. And she's had a bunch of hits.

I had always been of r’s opinion, but I softened on her father and then her earnest charm won me over.

Hipsters got hold of her in early 2000s and made a great record called Nancy with her doing fun versions of more recent music.

A favorite is this Morrissey song. Enjoy Beauty and the Beast!

This was a big hit in England. Sounds pretty awful now.

"I just wondered, did you ever...ALL the time!"

I liked Sugar Town and Jackson. And that song, Boots, epitomized the Sixties.

I didn't know that.

I know she got pretty mad at Mia.

She does know how to interpret lyrics. I really like this version of Neil Sedaka’s The Hungry Years from not so long ago.

The YouTube links no longer show in my image previews. Is anyone else experiencing this?

She had that cool blankness that seemed to foreshadow Debbie Harry. Plus, she recorded one of the greatest Bond themes.

yes, R14 - it's v annoying on a thread like this.

by Anonymousreply 16January 12, 2020 1:27 AM

She didn't have great vocal abilities but her voice had a sound that was distinctive and immediately likable.

by Anonymousreply 17January 12, 2020 1:28 AM

I love her little dance movements >

I used to follow Peter Fonda on Twitter, his exchanges with Nancy were so cute. He called her ‘Boots’.

She's quite charming on the "Nancy for Frank" show on the Siriusly Sinatra SiriusXM channel.

You really do need a sound, r17. Debbie Reynolds said the reason she didn't have a recording career was that she didn't have a sound.

by Anonymousreply 28January 12, 2020 2:05 AM

Oh honey, as someone pointed out above, her "You Only Live Twice" is one of THE Bond songs--up there with "Goldfinger."
