Why are my grandma's beans so bad?

Everytime I eat them, I have a gross aftertaste 20 minutes later. Nasty. They aren't very good either.

She makes them every couple weeks and I dread eating them, but I do anyway to not hurt her feelings

Beans on toast, OP?

by Anonymousreply 1December 11, 2019 2:45 AM

Grandma beans.

by Anonymousreply 2December 11, 2019 2:47 AM

OP, your grandmother was always the worst cook.

by Anonymousreply 3December 11, 2019 2:49 AM

I add lemon juice to brighten them and season with thyme and onion and garlic and maybe a little cayenne, Many add some pork product

Beans without flavor are tasteless. Need to cook them with garlic, onions, Tumeric, curry powder, possibly tomatoes, carrots. Grandma has lost her taste buds and needs some new recipes. Or buy her a spice mix to use.

Dr Praeger spice mix made my ground turkey taste better than commercially bought pork sausage. Excellent in pot roast and meatballs. Bet just a little bit will drastically improve the flavor of grandma's beans.

Is she holding a gun to your head?

by Anonymousreply 6December 11, 2019 3:10 AM

You are slowly being poisoned.

by Anonymousreply 7December 11, 2019 3:17 AM

What kind of beans, OP?

by Anonymousreply 8December 11, 2019 3:18 AM

String beans? Green beans? Fava? Fordhook?

Why so skimpy on details?

by Anonymousreply 9December 11, 2019 3:21 AM

Shit troll strikes again. He wants to talk about flatulence in sex.

If they're dry beans, like pinto or black or such, maybe she's not soaking them (overnight, or faster with boiling water) before cooking. You have to soak, drain and rinse dry beans to remove phytic acid, which can cause digestion issues.

Does she drain and rinse the beans twice? She may be adding a fat that gives a bad flavor. Usually, a hambone is used. But an un cured bone from a butcher may taste better.

Buy her a big ol' can of Bush's Beans, and she'll get the message.

by Anonymousreply 14December 11, 2019 4:52 AM

Next time send them back.

by Anonymousreply 15December 11, 2019 4:56 AM

Your grandmother still menstruates?

by Anonymousreply 16December 11, 2019 4:58 AM

You've had worse things in your mouth, OP.

by Anonymousreply 17December 11, 2019 1:07 PM

Just say NO !

by Anonymousreply 18December 11, 2019 1:20 PM

Your grandma never really knew how to cook.

But that fat bitch sure knew how to eat.

by Anonymousreply 19December 11, 2019 1:22 PM

Say you've sadly become allergic.

by Anonymousreply 20December 11, 2019 1:25 PM

Buy her an old fashioned stove top pressure cooker. The taste of her beans may not improve, but she just might blow herself up if she doesn't get that lid on just right.

by Anonymousreply 21December 11, 2019 1:27 PM

Politely tell her you really don't like them when she offers them to you. These days it's okay to be finicky.

I'm on a low cholesterol diet and I eat a lot of legumes when I'm cooking for myself, but I'd never dream of offering them to a guest.

by Anonymousreply 22December 11, 2019 1:28 PM

I love beans!

by Anonymousreply 23December 11, 2019 1:31 PM

This is a trick post. it demonstrates that we'll discuss any damned thing. some one posts about "grandma's beans" as we got 23 people posting responses. Really? Yes I'm counting myself.

by Anonymousreply 24December 11, 2019 1:32 PM

Is she flicking her beans long enough to moisten them?

by Anonymousreply 25December 11, 2019 1:33 PM

I use this line:" Oohhh! I love them but they don't like me, my stomach is acting up, so no thanks!"

by Anonymousreply 26December 11, 2019 1:33 PM

Bean is a slang term for the clitoris

"She was flicking her bean all night"

by Anonymousreply 27December 11, 2019 1:33 PM

"Come here, you little butterbean you!"

by Anonymousreply 28December 11, 2019 1:37 PM

Quit. Responding. He. Is. The. Scat. Troll. For. Fucks. Sake.

by Anonymousreply 29December 11, 2019 1:46 PM

Dump the beans in your purse.

by Anonymousreply 30December 11, 2019 2:59 PM

She thinks you’re acting phony

by Anonymousreply 31December 11, 2019 3:05 PM

Maybe she puts too much baking soda in them?

by Anonymousreply 32December 11, 2019 3:07 PM

“I dread eating them, but I do anyway to not hurt her feelings”

She’s turned you into a bean counter.

by Anonymousreply 33December 11, 2019 3:42 PM

I loved the baked beans that Ginny from Billing made for The Annual DL Christmas Party.

But then she died ............
