2020 Golden Globe nominations being announced Monday morning.

They're placing "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" in the Comedy/Musical category. Seriously?

As with last year's "Green Book", the two male leads will be split and Brad Pitt will be nominated for Best Supporting Actor. So unfair to the true supporting actors.

by Anonymousreply 195January 5, 2020 10:13 PM

The TV show category nominations will be lame as usual.

by Anonymousreply 1December 7, 2019 2:47 PM

The way it ended was comedic.

by Anonymousreply 2December 7, 2019 2:49 PM

Renee will win for Judy.

by Anonymousreply 3December 7, 2019 2:58 PM

The Martian was placed in the comedy category a few years ago which is 10x worse than OUATIH being placed in it. It’s all just an awards season strategy. Golden Globes are stupid but they do matter.

by Anonymousreply 4December 7, 2019 3:10 PM

R3 That will be start of a major Liza drinking binge.

by Anonymousreply 5December 7, 2019 3:18 PM

Meryl is the favourite for BSA TV series

by Anonymousreply 6December 7, 2019 3:21 PM

Ricky Gervais is hosting again. Only reason to watch.

by Anonymousreply 7December 7, 2019 3:22 PM
Meryl is the favourite for BSA TV series

Of course, she is. The Hollywood Foreign Press members already had the payoffs deposited into their bank accounts.

by Anonymousreply 8December 7, 2019 3:28 PM

OP, they should place it in the dumpster with the rest of the garbage. What a boring, useless, ridiculously overrated waste of film.

by Anonymousreply 9December 7, 2019 3:32 PM

The Bruce Lee segment got big laughs. Leo was funny I have no problem with it.

by Anonymousreply 10December 7, 2019 3:50 PM

R9, The same could be said for "The Irishman".

by Anonymousreply 11December 7, 2019 4:54 PM

How soon will Tom Hanks begin crying during his Cecil B. DeMille Award acceptance speech?

by Anonymousreply 12December 7, 2019 4:57 PM

I hope Sandra Oh gets snubbed for Killing Eve. Jodie Comer deserves the nomination.

ROFL at all those nominations for The Morning Show. Never change, HFPA.

by Anonymousreply 16December 9, 2019 1:03 PM

I wonder how much Ben Platt's daddy paid for his nomination.

by Anonymousreply 17December 9, 2019 1:06 PM

No real surprises on the film side. This does sort of cement Bong Joon Hoo as a definite contender for Oscar Best Director berth. and likely Best Picture as well.

It's probably inevitable that HFPA will pick Joaquin Phoenix for Drama Actor and Joker for Drama Picture.

by Anonymousreply 18December 9, 2019 1:07 PM

I thought Kidman was awful on Big Little Lies s2.

by Anonymousreply 19December 9, 2019 1:08 PM

So many Netflix movies... I hope theatres don’t die completely

by Anonymousreply 20December 9, 2019 1:11 PM

No Chalamet anywhere. Maybe that’ll shut those morons up.

by Anonymousreply 21December 9, 2019 1:11 PM

Parasite deserved a regular Best Pic drama nod.

De Niro snubbed and hey Irishman was just okay.

Hope Charlize wins for Bombshell.

by Anonymousreply 22December 9, 2019 1:12 PM

I just wish the frauds at HFPA would eliminate the comedy/drama distinction and pick 10 nominees for all categories. Emma Thompson for Late Night is really pushing it.

by Anonymousreply 23December 9, 2019 1:14 PM

The Politician was a shit show.

Bush Baby got a nod for ‘Rami’.

Netflix is cutting kickbacks left & right it appears.

by Anonymousreply 24December 9, 2019 1:15 PM

The biggest surprise for me, knowing HFPA, is that they didn't pick Cats for Musical/Comedy. That's exactly the kind of movie Universal would have stooped to bribe the judges to legitimize.

by Anonymousreply 25December 9, 2019 1:16 PM

No Taylor Swift in supporting categories for CATS?

by Anonymousreply 26December 9, 2019 1:18 PM

Kit Harrington gets a Best Actor nomination

by Anonymousreply 27December 9, 2019 1:21 PM

R26 She didn't know that she had to wine and dine the HFPA.

by Anonymousreply 28December 9, 2019 1:22 PM

Dolemite is my Name deserves the comedy award and I hope Eddie wins BA.

by Anonymousreply 29December 9, 2019 1:24 PM
Hope Charlize wins for Bombshell.

Nope, the bitch Megyn Kelly will take credit.

PARASITE is brilliant. Deserves every nomination.

CATS must be truly awful.

Glad for the UNBELIEVABLE noms. Excellent series with three superb leads.

by Anonymousreply 39December 9, 2019 1:41 PM

I wonder if Constance Wu is crying somewhere.

by Anonymousreply 40December 9, 2019 1:43 PM

I love Ricky.

by Anonymousreply 41December 9, 2019 1:44 PM
CATS must be truly awful.

Yes for the Golden Globes to completely snub Cats when they have this musical category waiting for it, yikes.

by Anonymousreply 42December 9, 2019 1:44 PM

Game of Thrones was snubbed except a completely inexplication nomination for Kit Harington. The last season was bad, but when you are nominating "The Morning Show"....

What is really weird is emmy darling "When They See Us" was completely ignored.

by Anonymousreply 43December 9, 2019 1:51 PM

Also no love for new series "Watchmen" or "Euphoria", but they recognize "The Politician"?!

by Anonymousreply 44December 9, 2019 1:53 PM

People need to stop applying logic to HFPA's choices, they are a completely corrupt organization made up of whores. Or whatever is one step below whores.

by Anonymousreply 45December 9, 2019 1:56 PM

Really have to go with R45. I don't disagree strenuously with any of these choices, but there are other movies I would have nominated before them. The HFPA can literally be bought and it is quite well known.. It isn't the Oscars/Emmys.

The only reason they have "influence" is because their awards show is often fun to watch, and hence popular with the public. The Oscars, while more dignified, is often a snooze fest.

by Anonymousreply 46December 9, 2019 2:06 PM

Netflix leads in both film and TV, broadcast networks completely shut out. RIP Old Hollywood, new Hollywood is here to stay.

Brad Pitt was 100% Supporting.

by Anonymousreply 48December 9, 2019 2:36 PM

Thought "The Two Popes" was a miniseries.

by Anonymousreply 49December 9, 2019 3:04 PM

R48, Was Mahershala Ali supporting in "Green Book"?

by Anonymousreply 50December 9, 2019 3:07 PM

R50 He was.

by Anonymousreply 51December 9, 2019 3:11 PM

R50 absolutely. Rewatch the film. The focus is on Viggo. The story is about Viggo. Mahershala is used as a device to show the growth of Viggo.

by Anonymousreply 52December 9, 2019 3:13 PM
, The same could be said for "The Irishman".

Wrong. The Irishman features incredible performances. That piece of crap Quentin churned our didn’t. That was embarrassing.

by Anonymousreply 53December 9, 2019 3:59 PM

The Lion King is animated??

I thought it was a live action version of the original animated feature?

by Anonymousreply 54December 9, 2019 4:02 PM

The lion trainers aren’t good enough to achieve that yet, r54

by Anonymousreply 55December 9, 2019 4:08 PM

Half the films nominated aren't even out yet

by Anonymousreply 56December 9, 2019 4:24 PM

Meryl now on her 32nd nomination and most likely her 9th win!

by Anonymousreply 57December 9, 2019 4:25 PM

Nothing for Euphoria is ridiculous.

by Anonymousreply 58December 9, 2019 4:41 PM

The tranny from Euphoria should have been nominated.

by Anonymousreply 59December 9, 2019 4:52 PM

It is animated R54. The animation is hyper realistic, but still animation. Deep fake technology with lions.

by Anonymousreply 60December 9, 2019 5:16 PM

Hope Charlize steals Renee's thunder in this award season.

by Anonymousreply 61December 9, 2019 5:18 PM
CATS must be truly awful.

I'm patiently waiting for Lynn Stairmaster to tell us how many Oscars it'll win. Taylor Swift for Best Supporting Actress, at least, right?

by Anonymousreply 62December 9, 2019 5:20 PM

So Mirren made it in for that awful Catherine The Great where her acting was atrocious. I'm surprised she wasn't nominated for The Good Liar.

And they nominate that Shrew Emma Thompson when she as much as farts. Embarrassing.

by Anonymousreply 63December 9, 2019 5:36 PM

Outrageous to snub Jharrel Jerome and When they see Us

by Anonymousreply 64December 9, 2019 5:38 PM

They should have given Aaron Taylor Johnson some positive reinforcement for showing everything in whatever shitty movie that was.

So has Renee got her Globe in the bag?

by Anonymousreply 65December 9, 2019 5:43 PM

It cracks me up that Judy is classified as a drama but Once Upon A Time In...Hollywood is deemed a comedy. Never change, Golden Globes.

by Anonymousreply 66December 9, 2019 5:46 PM

The best is when they put Michelle Williams in Musical/Comedy for My Week With Marilyn. The person who presented the award even make a joke about how funny this Drama was.

The shame was that Charlise Theron should have won for the dark comedy Young Adult.

by Anonymousreply 67December 9, 2019 6:21 PM

Never forget that sci-fi epic THE MARTIAN actually won as a Comedy.

by Anonymousreply 68December 9, 2019 6:30 PM
Best Actress in a Motion Picture: Musical or Comedy - Cate Blanchett (“Where’d You Go, Bernadette”)

This is a travesty

by Anonymousreply 69December 9, 2019 6:57 PM

Who did Taron Egerton blow to get a nomination?

by Anonymousreply 70December 9, 2019 7:00 PM

More like who didn't he blow

by Anonymousreply 71December 9, 2019 7:07 PM

He closed his eyes and thought of Hugh Jackman the whole time.

by Anonymousreply 72December 9, 2019 7:13 PM

Apparently HFPA didn’t get Cats screeners. There was a screening last week, according to Deadline, that most of them missed. The song was released online, thus its nomination. The article said the HFPA prez is cracking down on all the perks and bribes made by the studios. But that could be bs to just Make them look better.

by Anonymousreply 73December 9, 2019 7:40 PM

There's a reason the Globes aren't part of the EGOT crown. Everybody knows they're a blatant popularity/bribe contest, even more than the others.

by Anonymousreply 74December 9, 2019 8:33 PM

Watched "Marriage Story" this afternoon on Netflix. The HFPA got it right. It's a wonderful film with excellent performances from all, especially Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson.

It's this generation's "Kramer vs. Kramer".

by Anonymousreply 75December 9, 2019 8:52 PM

Is it a gut punch like Kramer vs Kramer R75? I almost don't want to watch it for this reason.

by Anonymousreply 76December 9, 2019 9:04 PM

Marriage Story has some nice comedic elements to make it go down easier and it ends on an optimistic tone. I don't think it is some depressing downer.

by Anonymousreply 77December 9, 2019 9:10 PM

R76 no. Extremely well acted, but there’s no big emotional punches like Meryl on the stand or at the end. It deserved all the nominations though. Driver is a standout.

by Anonymousreply 78December 9, 2019 9:31 PM

Ummmm Marriage Story was a rip-off of Kramer vs Kramer and Blue Valentine

by Anonymousreply 79December 9, 2019 9:38 PM

There will eventually be a gay or lesbian version of Kramer vs. Kramer.

by Anonymousreply 80December 9, 2019 9:40 PM

They just have to make a documentary of Renner's or Cooper's divorce R80.

by Anonymousreply 81December 9, 2019 9:41 PM

R81 I'm thinking more a lesbo version with Amy Adams as the femme corporate lawyer who has to duke it out with her butch artist type wife played by Michelle Williams over custody of their Chinese born adopted daughters or the gay version with Jake Gyllenhaal as a gay work from home carpenter who is served divorce papers by his theatre director husband played by Michael Fassbender and Jake has to fight for their twins sons who were born by a surrogate mother.

by Anonymousreply 82December 9, 2019 9:50 PM

I was kidding R81, but you are right. The "wrinkle" of biological connections for one (or both) parents would make an interesting story. I'd like to think gay/lesbian divorces are treated the same, but even in the most liberal enclaves, I'm sure they aren't.

The assumption that the mother is the better custodial parent (when there might not be a mother), child support, etc. It would be a subject worth exploring.

by Anonymousreply 83December 9, 2019 9:58 PM

R80, Well, Meryl did take up with a woman after leaving Dustin.

by Anonymousreply 84December 9, 2019 9:58 PM

R79, But, they didn't have two songs from Sondheim's Company.

by Anonymousreply 85December 9, 2019 10:24 PM

Charlize should win. She was fucking robbed by that cocksucking whore Michelle Williams. Her performance in YA is one for the history books.

by Anonymousreply 86December 9, 2019 10:39 PM

R67 the category is 'Musical or Comedy' and MY WEEK WITH MARILYN was deemed a musical because it featured Michelle performing some of Marilyn's best known songs. This is the same reason that Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon for WALK THE LINE, Jamie Foxx for RAY, and Marion Cotillard for LA VIE EN ROSE were also nominated (and won) in this category.

The rules have changed since then.

by Anonymousreply 87December 10, 2019 12:40 AM

R62 LMAO! My introduction to Lynn Stairmaster was when s/he proclaimed LES MISERABLES to be the best film ever and predicted it would get 15 Oscar nominations (more than TITANIC), including one for the kid who played Gavroche.

by Anonymousreply 88December 10, 2019 1:44 AM

Why didn't US and Lupita get nominated?

by Anonymousreply 89December 10, 2019 1:57 AM

I don’t see how people are now claiming OUATIH was not a comedy at all, when the film opened the threads were filled with people calling it a “dramedy” or dark comedy.

The film was FILLED with humor.

by Anonymousreply 90December 10, 2019 2:19 AM

The audience I sat with for OUATIH definitely thought it was a comedy. Especially the "violent" scene at the end. And this was a weekday matinee with lots of elderly people.

by Anonymousreply 91December 10, 2019 2:25 AM

I saw the film numerous times and every fucking time the audience laughed during numerous scenes, the main one being the Brad Pitt one during the end. That scene never not got laughs (and sometimes applause).

by Anonymousreply 92December 10, 2019 2:27 AM
They're placing "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" in the Comedy/Musical category. Seriously?

Why, because the woman the Mansons murdered had a recurring role on [italic]The Beverly Hillbillies[/italic]?

by Anonymousreply 93December 10, 2019 2:31 AM

Julia Louis wasn’t even nominated ????

by Anonymousreply 94December 10, 2019 2:37 AM

Yeah, don't see the complaint for Once Upon a Time...in Hollywood being in the Comedy category -- it is very much a comedy, as nearly all Tarantino films are.
there’s no big emotional punches like Meryl on the stand or at the end

I disagree; the scene where Driver and Johansson argue in his apartment, and he collapses to his knees crying, had me in tears; then at the end, when he was reading the letter...buckets flowed. I really hope Driver wins the Oscar over Phoenix.

by Anonymousreply 95December 10, 2019 2:44 AM

R95 must be a frau. I am sorry, but I was MOVED by Meryl in Kramer vs Kramer. Nothing in this new one moved me.

by Anonymousreply 96December 10, 2019 2:47 AM

r96, sorry, but I'm a gold star homosexual male.

by Anonymousreply 97December 10, 2019 2:48 AM

R91 I had a similar experience when I saw it in the theaters. It was a showing on a Tuesday night and it was mostly elderly people and they cracked up a lot of the scenes. A couple of weeks later, I went to see another movie and I remember laughs from the OUATIH screening room.

by Anonymousreply 98December 10, 2019 2:48 AM
[R96], sorry, but I'm a gold star homosexual male.

At least in [italic]All That Jazz[/italic], I got more screen time and made people forget all about that giant monkey. I wish I could say the same for Faye Dunaway and [italic]Dunston Checks In[/italic], the role she deserved to play.

by Anonymousreply 99December 10, 2019 2:51 AM

Neither ScarJo nor Adam Driver give a performance as LOVELY as Meryl in KvK

by Anonymousreply 100December 10, 2019 2:59 AM

Can’t wait until this is over. I love, and I hate it.

Brad’s getting his Oscar.

But more importantly, I’m stanning for Joaquin, because I just live the guy, and his body of work.

There’s some great actors on this list, and there are some who we all know aren’t. However, I’m in a great mood, and that said, I hope JLo gets a win, too. The woman’s a hard worker, and she’s paid her dues, just like the rest of them.

by Anonymousreply 101December 10, 2019 5:49 AM

R101 what dues? JLO continuously says yes to any script that will pay her a big fee. She is no artist.

I like the woman and have no problem with her being commended when she does a great job but she in no way deserves to be an Oscar winner.

by Anonymousreply 102December 10, 2019 6:00 AM

Brad getting the Oscar ➡️ 248st Angelina's mental breakdown of the year

Craving for it just to piss her off

by Anonymousreply 103December 10, 2019 6:07 AM

Who is getting the Oscar in actress - supporting role if not Laura Dern? It's pretty obvious.

She has two previous nominations. And it's fine, her role is not like the biggest thing ever but who cares this year? Any of the nominees in this category this year is a stand out.

by Anonymousreply 104December 10, 2019 6:11 AM

G dear. Is your name anywhere? Have you been working?

by Anonymousreply 105December 10, 2019 6:17 AM

Who sais Laura Dern was not great? I think she was the best in Marriage Story, you can't stop seeing her. She deserves all she gets for this role

by Anonymousreply 106December 10, 2019 6:39 AM

JLo is a creation of the media. She steals songs.

by Anonymousreply 107December 10, 2019 7:02 AM

Other than Best Actress for Ronan, I was surprised Little Women didn't get much recognition, considering how heavily hyped it is and all the positive buzz for Pugh. You'd think that movie was just the kind of thing that the GG (only slightly classier than the People's Choice Awards) would love....

by Anonymousreply 108December 10, 2019 8:18 AM

R108, Ronan Farrow is in Little Women?

by Anonymousreply 109December 10, 2019 9:38 AM

R105, Has that film version of Sunset Boulevard that was supposed to commence last October been killed?

by Anonymousreply 110December 10, 2019 9:41 AM

Brad’ already has an Oscar.

by Anonymousreply 111December 10, 2019 9:55 AM

I love that Annette Bening got nominated. I liked her fairly accurate Dianne Feinstein. Bening's train this year ends here, but a pleasant surprise nonetheless!

Bening's career in the last few years has been lighting up again ...

2016: 20th Century Women (Globe/ISA nominee, NSFC RU, Nevada critics winner, Village Voice 3rd place, IndieWire Top 10) 2017: Film Stars Don't Die in Liverpool (BAFTA nominee)

2019: The Report (Globe nominee); prominent role in second highest grossing film of the year (Captain Marvel)

For 2020, she has Death on the Nile (Orient made $350M WW), Turn of Mind (with Michelle Pfeiffer), and a TV movie

Hopefully, a film SAG nod is in her near future.

Not bad for 61.

by Anonymousreply 112December 10, 2019 9:58 AM

R112 she was robbed of many nominations and wins for the amazing Film Stars Don't Die in Liverpool

by Anonymousreply 113December 10, 2019 10:05 AM

I'm pretty disappointed in some of this year's nominations. I thought Once Upon a Time in America was okay, but not great. One of the best movies I saw this year was Honey Boy and it didn't get one nomination; it should have gotten nominations for Best Screenplay, Best Director, and Best Supporting Actor. I love Cate Blanchett but "Where'd You Go, Bernadette?" was a very uneven, lackluster film and I felt she was miscast in it; Kaitlyn Dever (Booksmart) or Jillian Bell (Brittany Runs a Marathon) should have been nominated instead. In the animated category, I thought "Missing Link" was mediocre and didn't deserve the nomination over "Abominable", which was absolutely charming and beautifully done.

by Anonymousreply 114December 10, 2019 10:17 AM

I no longer feel Renee has a lock on winning Best Actress after seeing the other nominees.

by Anonymousreply 115December 10, 2019 10:34 AM

R106, I was pleasantly surprised to see Julie Hagerty as Scarlett's eccentric mother. Hadn't seen her in anything since "Airplane".

by Anonymousreply 116December 10, 2019 10:36 AM

R116 she was in Lost In America with Albert Brooks, 4 years after Airplane, which is something of a cult classic. She was great in Marriage Story. Like to see her in more.

by Anonymousreply 117December 10, 2019 4:05 PM

She dropped off the screen almost after those two movies she made at touchstone in the early 90s.

by Anonymousreply 118December 10, 2019 5:29 PM

Ugh, such a smartass at R109; it was too early in the morning to spell "Saoirse". Anyway, since the LW remake has been such a topic of conversation on DL, it seemed relevant that it didn't get much recognition, given all the hype surrounding it.

They cast Timmeh because he looks like Winona "sticky-fingers" Ryder who was in the last version.

by Anonymousreply 122December 10, 2019 7:29 PM

They cast Timmy because he is a major talent.

I'm not sure that's right about Egerton taking comedy actor over DiCaprio and Eddie Murphy.

by Anonymousreply 146December 11, 2019 6:19 PM

R106, agreed. It’s Laura’s time.

That said, I am not a huge JLo fan, but I enjoyed her immensely in U-Turn, the film with Clooney, & Hustlers. She’s a goddamned good actress, and frankly, though I appreciate Dern’s work, I’m gonna say “fuck it”, and place my bets on Jennifer.

R102, Lopez works ALL the time. I admire her drive and spunk. I dislike her as a person, yet I also happen to respect aspects about her.

She rocked. Give this woman an award, or another good role, because unlike Dern, she will get her ass up and do it again.

by Anonymousreply 147December 12, 2019 1:26 PM

R147 Joaquin Phoenix was also in U-TURN. Wouldn't that be something if they both won Oscars in the same year? I wonder if they remember each other?

by Anonymousreply 148December 12, 2019 10:16 PM

There is nothing cool about that r148

What next, a Grammy for her great singing?

by Anonymousreply 150December 13, 2019 2:52 AM

She has gotten a few Grammy nods over the years.

by Anonymousreply 154December 13, 2019 3:03 AM

Sadly AMAs are more prestigious than the Grammys.

by Anonymousreply 155December 13, 2019 4:20 AM

JLo got a Best Supporting Actress Nod from AARP the Magazine's Movies for Grownups Awards. Not kidding...

by Anonymousreply 156December 13, 2019 9:11 AM

JLo has only be nominated for Best Dance Recording at the Grammys. The academy knows what’s up and that she is a thieving skank who can’t sing, she’ll never receive a vocal award and if she does that’s the absolute jump the shark moment for the Grammys.

by Anonymousreply 157December 13, 2019 9:15 AM

Have you seen the list of nominees in recent years? The Grammys have already jumped the shark.

by Anonymousreply 158December 13, 2019 3:42 PM

Jlo will get an EGOT!

by Anonymousreply 159December 13, 2019 5:42 PM

Speaking of Joaquin and J.Lo, remember when she pulled a sort of "I'm Still Here" a decade before Joaquin? Only difference was that it was for real and she wasn't quitting acting entirely, but it was rather bizarre for her to go from acclaimed actress and Golden Globe-nominee to a bubblegum pop star in the course of just 2 years. I became such a big fan after SELENA and then U-TURN that same year and OUT OF SIGHT the following year. I sincerely saw her as a future multiple Oscar nominee/winner and master thespian.

But then she pulls this crap about wanting to become a pop star. I hated how she put her acting career aside -- focused mainly on her 'music' and dabbled in rom-coms and the occasional thriller here and there. She became a joke in the early 2000s, especially after the whole Bennifer showmance. I'm sure she's crying all the way to the bank now, but she had so much potential to become a great actress, if only she had honed her skills. She reminds me of Jayne Mansfield in that regard. When asked why she didn't pursue the Actors Studio and seek better scripts/directors like Marilyn had, Mansfield replied that it wasn't her thing and that she would prefer to be a star and an object of desire for all men.

by Anonymousreply 160December 13, 2019 6:32 PM

Who will play Jayne Mansfield in the much awaited bio flick?

by Anonymousreply 166December 14, 2019 12:32 PM

I can see them giving JLO the award, it is a popularity contest and she is there every year in spite of being (up to now) a 1-time nominee.

by Anonymousreply 167December 14, 2019 1:10 PM

R167 she probably will win the globe. I watched Hustlers last night and she was good, but considering the crap films she’s done for so long, it’s about time she delivered a decent performance. Usually any JLo film is kryptonite to me. I can’t imagine her beating Dern for the Oscar though. Her diva ways and shit films will do her in.

by Anonymousreply 168December 14, 2019 2:39 PM

J.Lo and Adam Driver seem to be Dern's and Joaquin's main competitors, but they don't have the overdue narrative nor the industry respect nor the impressive filmography that the latter two do. Frankly, I'm rooting for Dern and Joaquin because I really enjoyed their films and performances this year, as well as their overall work over the decades. These two should really have Oscars, and JOKER and MARRIAGE STORY are perfect vehicles for them to top off their careers thus far.

by Anonymousreply 169December 14, 2019 5:56 PM

Several years ago, there was a really low budget (looks more like a student film) biopic of Jayne Mansfield. You really should check out the trailer. It's a hoot! Plus, some male nudity.
She wasn't scalped, her wig fell off.

According to her death certificate, she was scalped: "According to the police report on the accident, “the upper portion of this white female’s head was severed.” Her death certificate notes a “crushed skull with avulsion (forcible separation or detachment) of cranium and brain.” One thinks of a beheading as the neck’s being sliced through, causing the head to be separated from the body, but that is clearly not what happened here. Scalping is perhaps a closer description of Mansfield’s fate, but even that word does not accurately reflect the cranial trauma she suffered, because scalping victims at least retain an intact skull. The Angel of Death did not afford Mansfield this luxury: Her skull was cracked or sliced open, and a sizable piece of it was carried away."

by Anonymousreply 172December 14, 2019 10:27 PM

Yeah, the urban legend is that she was beheaded but in reality was more like scalped.

by Anonymousreply 173December 15, 2019 9:35 PM

ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD was a ponderous, pointless, empty, stupid, self-indulgent, exceedingly mediocre film (40 minutes recreating the filming of an episode of a forgotten TV western? Really? That was interesting to anyone?) All the people trying to defend this crappy movie wouldn't be doing so if anyone other than Tarantino had made it. For some reason, there's all these juvenile idiots who've attached their self-esteem to Tarantino and feel they have to jump to oppose criticism of any of his movies, which are nothing special at all: a couple of martial arts movies, neither of which is as good as CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON or a dozen other Asian martial arts films, a second rate DIRTY DOZEN rip off, that isn't as good as the original, a second rate Blaxploitation movie that completely misses the point of Blaxploitation movies (hint: in Blaxploitation movies the Black people were the heroes doing it all themselves without some white man's help; it's white people who are always inserting themselves in Black people's stories -- the real Nat Turner didn't need any white man's help); and HATEFUL 8, which is a HORRIBLE, booooooorrrrriiiiiing, moronically drawn out western that is hatefully lame. Tarantino is the most overrated hack in Hollywood. Why do they keep kissing his ass?

The only thing anyone ever references about ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD is that violent scene at the end? Why? Because it's the only thing that happens in the disgustingly unnecessary 2 hours and 41 minutes of this dreck and like Pavlovian chimps, Tarantino fans whoop and clap at it, like there's something special about seeing a dog bite a guy in the crotch or a girl get her face smashed into a table a dozen times. Yeah, really great filmmaking. I guess after 2 and a half hours of NOTHING, you'll clap at anything if you're stupid enough to be conned. You're a bunch of SUCKERS for defending this tripe.

I'm hearing in Hollywood that Adam Driver is winning the GG tomorrow over Joaquin.

Joaquin is still very unpopular in Hollywood.

I'm also hearing that Jennifer Aniston is a shoe-in for The Morning Show.

by Anonymousreply 175January 4, 2020 7:06 PM

"Hollywood" does not vote on the Golden Globes r175. It is a group of international journalists that no one cares about except for Golden Globe season, the Hollywood Foreign Press that decides, around 100 people.

You don't seem like you know anything about the industry.

by Anonymousreply 176January 4, 2020 8:30 PM

R175, And according to the Daily Mail, Brad and Jen will be seated at adjoining tables.

by Anonymousreply 177January 4, 2020 8:33 PM

by Anonymousreply 178January 4, 2020 8:35 PM

I hope Iran chooses this shit fest for a test strike.

by Anonymousreply 179January 4, 2020 8:37 PM

That's always been the thing with the GG r178. Because it is a small group of people that decides, and because they are these journalists that crave access with celebrities, they have always been considered easy to persuade.

by Anonymousreply 180January 4, 2020 8:37 PM

JLo is wealthier than ARod.

by Anonymousreply 181January 4, 2020 8:37 PM

He better win. His work on Robot was phenomenal, including Season 4. As for the others in the category: Kit Harrington —seriously? All he did in GOT was look like a worried puppy! Jesus: there were far more deserving actors on GOT than him. All Billy Porter did in Pose was play a one-note cliche of a loud defiant black man. Anyone other than Timothy Chalamet can do that blindfolded.

by Anonymousreply 187January 5, 2020 1:45 AM

Pretty easy to guess both Brad and Jen will win their respective categories, if only because it’ll get people talking about the Globes and wanting to see pics of them together at the after parties.
I'm hearing in Hollywood that Adam Driver is winning the GG tomorrow over Joaquin. Joaquin is still very unpopular in Hollywood.
Lol no. Joker made a over a billion dollars off of a $140m investment— and that’s including p&a. Meanwhile SW is despised, Marriage Story is more meme than movie, and Adam is known for throwing a hissy fit on a radio show for having to listen to a 20 second clip of himself acting. Antonio now has a better shot than Driver.

by Anonymousreply 188January 5, 2020 1:55 AM

It's shocking to note Vivien Leigh did not win the Best Actress GG for A Streetcar Named Desire. It was Jane Wyman for "The Blue Veil"!!!

by Anonymousreply 189January 5, 2020 12:22 PM

"The Blue Veil" is one of those films that has mysteriously been unavailable for decades.

I obtained a bootleg copy years ago and it's quite good. Jane Wyman and Joan Blondell both received Oscar nominations.

Plus, DL fave Vivian Vance has a supporting role.
