I want to know why all the apartments and houses are so extremely expensive? Is it because wages are so much higher in other counties?

All these shows are totally fake. Couples are not real couples, rent prices are fake and often way too high for an apartment in Vietnam, South America or even Europe, apartments they use are often Airbnb or other rental places, stories and backgrounds are fake, some of the people already bought one of the houses and the "House Hunting" is totally fake. On other shows like "House in Alaska" or "Beach House" you never see the people actually living in the houses they apparently bought. Families are always just playing games in the garden or drinking tea in the kitchen without any personal stuff in a house they apparently live in.

Why do people still watch these fake shows?

r4, you're raising a question about "reality" TV in general. Short answer: As long as "unscripted" shows are convincing enough to keep up the illusion, people are watching. This is a phenomenon that's not limited to HH.

^I'm all for real estate porn, but I don't understand why they have to come up with fake storylines and people. Why is everything scripted and fake these days? Can't be that hard to find some real people looking for a new home, but their motives and stories are probably not spectacular enough for the average TV audience.

r6, I kinda agree. I suppose it's cheaper to flavor up the story, than just look harder for the better story. It's like processed food. If you offer natural fries, people still choose the highly processed crap even though they know it's real and unhealthy.

Back to the show, it's actually become part of the fun to figure out which unit they already purchased, or whose husband is way too gay to be married to the woman they introduced as his wife.
