What’s the Highest Fever You’ve Had?

What caused it?

by Anonymousreply 38December 5, 2019 2:25 PM

Miss Gurl if I had a102 fever I'd be in bed having sweats or chills.

by Anonymousreply 1December 4, 2019 10:09 PM

No. 8 on Billboard

by Anonymousreply 2December 4, 2019 10:13 PM

103 when I had the flu last year.

by Anonymousreply 3December 4, 2019 10:17 PM

104,5 when I had the flu. I kept alternating between 100,5 under medication and back to 104,5 when it was wearing off. This went on for 5 days and it was awful.

by Anonymousreply 4December 4, 2019 10:17 PM

101. Horrible flu.

by Anonymousreply 5December 4, 2019 10:21 PM

105. I had the flu, fever was 102. Kept falling asleep for 30 min intervals. In the third day of it, my temp was down to 101. Later fell asleep and woke up feeling weird and it was 105. Next time I fell asleep and woke up, I was covered in sweat and it was down to 102. Children can tolerate high fevers (like 102) much better than adults - they feel fine, we feel like we're going to die.

by Anonymousreply 6December 4, 2019 10:25 PM

104.5. I was really sick (bad cold or flu) and had a lot of work stress. Doctor said my white blood cell count was low.

I'm sick right now, but my temperature is normal.

by Anonymousreply 7December 4, 2019 10:26 PM

I have a subnormal body temperature of 96. I've been like that all my life. When my temperature goes up due to sickness, I wonder if 98.6 would be considered a fever in my case.

by Anonymousreply 8December 4, 2019 10:31 PM

take advil, take cold shower to bring down temps

by Anonymousreply 9December 4, 2019 10:34 PM

105 when I had measles, I was ravingly delirious, doctor was upset and parents were freaking out. I thought I was going to die.

106.2, but it was only there for a couple of minutes, then it was down to 99, then 104.5, then 97.2. It fluctuated wildly that whole day.

That same day, my blood pressure and pulse were also fluctuating just as wildly, every few minutes.

One minute I'd be burning up on the inside, while freezing on the outside; the next it'd be the reverse; and the next I'd be feeling cold and hot *at the same time.*

I feel the cause was autonomic nervous system dysfunction - an inability of the body to regulate vital signs. After reading about the brain-gut axis, I made radical changes in my diet & digestive aids starting the next day, and I've been stable ever since.

by Anonymousreply 12December 4, 2019 11:16 PM

105 - Had a GIANT abscess on my taint. It was the size of a grapefruit and sitting was excruciating. Once it was cut open and drained my fever went away. I was laughing and joking around with my sister in the exam room beforehand which shocked my DR. She said if I got to 106 there is a very high probability for stroke or seizure. I thought you could go as high as 110. Clearly I was stupid.

by Anonymousreply 13December 4, 2019 11:28 PM

When I was a child I had a fever. My hands felt just like two balloons.

by Anonymousreply 14December 4, 2019 11:28 PM

As an adult, 102.6 with the flu. Yes, it was miserable.

You people with temps of 104 and 105 (and 106!?!?) should have been in the emergency room. Those are dangerously high fevers in an adult. Any fever > 103 warrants an urgent call to the doctor. > 104 is 911 time.

by Anonymousreply 15December 4, 2019 11:29 PM

I also remember having visual and auditory hallucinations as a child during a particularly bad fever.

108 Renal failure from overdosing on Meth

by Anonymousreply 17December 4, 2019 11:37 PM

106. I was about 17 or 18. Very scary flu but I survived.

Where does "jungle" rank?

by Anonymousreply 19December 5, 2019 12:07 AM

104 as a kid with mononucleosis. I was home sick for a solid month with periodic high fevers. My mom still talks about when I hit 104 and started hallucinating.

by Anonymousreply 20December 5, 2019 12:23 AM

104F. I'd been having mysterious symptoms for a week and was being worked up for cancer, but I was actually suffering from a serious infection that was tilting into sepsis and serious danger.

When my fever went up to 104, well, that was the point where I started to have the very strong sense that if I didn't get to a doctor right away I would die, and well, that was pretty much the case. So I called the ambulance, got to the ER, the specialists who'd been treating me told me they didn't know what the hell was going on and brought in a super-specialist, and he did major surgery the next day and saved my life. So yes, if you're sick and not getting better and you get the feeling that if you don't get to the ER right away you're going to die... listen to your body and get to the fucking ER.

by Anonymousreply 21December 5, 2019 5:43 AM

Cow bell fever. Caught it from Christopher Walken.

by Anonymousreply 22December 5, 2019 5:55 AM

104, pneumonia.

by Anonymousreply 23December 5, 2019 6:14 AM

You've all got fuckin AIDS!

by Anonymousreply 24December 5, 2019 6:37 AM

I had a fever of 121ºF

I lived because I'm used to being hot already.

by Anonymousreply 25December 5, 2019 6:51 AM

106. I hallucinated. My parents actually argued whether it was enough to take me to the ER. They didn't. I lived anyway.

I had high fevers as a child, back in the 1950’s, which sometimes induced hallucinations, chiefly the sensation that my bed was tilting, and I needed to hold on to one side, afraid I’d fall off.

Also, it seemed whenever my fever was 104.2 or higher, I‘d get the same terrifying dream, repeating over and over. (My mother told me she, too, used to have a recurring dream, different from mine but also scary, whenever she had high fevers.)

I’ve only had fevers that high twice as an adult, one induced by an infection on my hip, and the other a sudden onset of flu, causing me to leave a showing of “ A Passage to India,” at the Ziegfeld Theater, in New York. Those were the last times I’ve had that dream.

When I get a fever, with flu and such, it’s common for me to reach temps. as high as 103 or so. At that time, what I love is to take a hot bath, which quells the shivering. Otherwise, despite piled on blankets, I can never seem to feel warm, even though I know I’m feverish. This will break with an onset of a soaking body sweat, which cycle repeats, until I reach normal 98.6.

As a former hospice nurse, I dealt with many patients with high fevers, which seem to peak during the night, then return in the afternoon, curiously, around 4:30 or so. For very high fevers, reaching over 105, up to 106, in addition to medication, the best way to relieve them was the use of cold compresses, cloths dipped in ice water, at the back of the patient’s neck, under each armpit, and on either side of the groin, changed at 15 min. intervals. This was frequently effective.

by Anonymousreply 27December 5, 2019 7:33 AM

It's definitely not a good idea to take a hot bath when you have a fever.

by Anonymousreply 28December 5, 2019 8:14 AM

105 two years ago a week after my mother died. I made it to the doctor four days later and she said “I’m so sorry...you tested positive for thr flu. The BAD one.” It was bad.

I had scarlet fever as a toddler, too. I don’t know what my temp was but my mom used to talk about how I was as red as a strawberry and felt like I was on fire.

by Anonymousreply 29December 5, 2019 10:46 AM

R21 In med school one of the professors used to tell us that "if a patient tells you they're going to die, you better fucking listen because they're right". And he was right, it happened a few times that a patient that looked stable would say something like that just before going into shock or something. That's instinct and you should listen to it. (there were a few times were people were just delusional, but not that many)

by Anonymousreply 30December 5, 2019 11:52 AM

R30 My mother told me at the hospital, “I’m worried we’re not going to get out of here.” I asked what she meant and she said, “I don’t think I’m going to survive this.” She was delirious within 24 hours. She knew she was being taken from us.

by Anonymousreply 31December 5, 2019 11:56 AM

105. Pneumonia. I was working 17 hour days.

by Anonymousreply 32December 5, 2019 12:22 PM

In October 2008 I had a fever of 104 f for three days in a row. I kept waiting for the fever to go away. Finally my father drove me to a medical center. I was diagnosed with Bronchitis.

by Anonymousreply 33December 5, 2019 12:24 PM

104.1 - Dr. couldn't figure it out. Lost 15 lbs that week.

by Anonymousreply 34December 5, 2019 12:28 PM

I had Boogie Fever. I caught it at the drive in show.

R10 Same here. I was a kid and was asleep for days. When I finally woke up I craved marshmallows. Weird.

by Anonymousreply 36December 5, 2019 12:48 PM

R36 I remember being super sick when I was 4 or 5. Everything was woozy for a few days and suddenly I woke up hungry for mangoes. I wouldn't eat anything else. Go figure.

by Anonymousreply 37December 5, 2019 2:06 PM

105°. I contracted Hong Kong Flu during the worldwide pandemic in 1968. To this day it is the sickest I've ever been and the closest I've come to dying. Spent 6 days in hospital (3 in ICU). I was out of it most of the time, but I remember relatives I hadn't seen in a long time and teachers from my school showing up at the hospital. It wasn't until I was well that I found out my parents had been told I may not survive.
