Haines City is about 40 miles west of Orlando. It's fucking Alabama but with palm trees but no bodies of water. It's suburban sprawl at its worst, with no there there, consisting of nothing but strip malls, motels, fast food joints and trailer parks on either side of Route 27.

This story makes my blood boil.

The thing is, it’s easy to paint this father as a monster, and I do think what he’s done is monstrous. But once we label him that way, it make it seem like he’s an anomaly, like his actions are rare.

I think it’s critical to recognize that in many ways he’s ordinary. He did what too many parents have done, and many more would probably like to do. The only difference is that this story happened to come to our attention.

The streets of our cities are filled with young gay people who have been cast out of their homes or frightened out of their homes. Stories like this are a reminder that - legal same-sex marriage and the frivolity of Will and Grace notwithstanding - gay people still face extreme hatred and violence in 2019.

R6 I don't think it's that uncommon for police admin buildings to be closed after normal business type hours. I live in a city of over 100K attached to a major metropolis, and it basically has the same hours as the police building in Haines (population 13K) which is open M-F 8A-5P. Where I live it's M-F 8A-6P. You're supposed to call 911, which the kid probably couldn't do because dad more than likely took the porn-infested phone away from him.

It's actually scary how easily available porn these days is for kids. I was a kid in the 80s and porn mags were regularly shared by some pre-pubescent kids who for whatever reason found it interesting. I was one of them but can't really remember why. Porn was forbidden and dangerous even though I didn't even properly realize what an erection means.

I can only imagine how much porn a regular kid sees these days before even reaching puberty. I did this very same thing to my disappointing whoops-kid, when his whore mother unfairly tried to foist him off onto me (the insatiable broad had 36 other brats already, at the last count, as well as a giant house to keep them - what was one more?). So when this hellspawn of mine was old enough to fend for himself - about 2 years - it was the only suitable recourse to put him in a box, leave him under a shrub in the nearest local park and walk off whistling. Never looked back, and I don’t regret a thing. Even back then I had a feeling he’d turn out queer somehow.

Of course, given that he’s my seed he grew to be quite the slippery resilient little fucker in spite of his...tendencies. Next thing I know, 20 years have gone by and I show up on a whim to visit an old mate of mine from my youth (needing a place to crash and hide out from a bit of, er. trouble)...and I find I’m standing nose-to-nose with a twinky soft-centred version of myself, in good health and looking smug as fucking anything (still needs to learn his damn place...)

So he tells me his story. However, then he lets me down, saying that by 17 he’d suddenly got a bizarre taste for a dull sedate square life of fishing (for pleasure?! Putting the fish back???!) and composing songs and seducing sweet hayseed boys from decent families into his tent for some sort of faggy herbivore romantic bucolics in that quaint middleclass valley he lives in. He even enjoys long walks in the countryside...with no violent sex or crime as a matter of course. He’s nothing like I was at the same age, hunting in the black forests to kill and robbing the virginity of every female Mymble of age in sight so I could take advantage of their hospitality and keep my own life exciting and easy.

I don’t get all his...kumbaya common-decency vegetarian bullshit, and palling around holding hands with another male all the time without having a wife or a girlfriend to screw every night. My own son even enjoys *shudder* helping people, being a good neighbour. How do I live that down? I may as well have had a daughter - at least then I could have an excuse to really get into it with whoever she inevitably let knock her up (like her dear Mama).
