Bitches, I only tolerate the holidays because of Panettone. So soft, moist and delicious!
Which brand, OP? Always wanted to try.

❤️ Coco. So funny

Years ago when I was an administrative assistant to the VP of a company, a fellow assistant and I chipped in to gift the boss Pannetone for Christmas. It was a lot of money for us back then, so don’t judge.
About three years later, the VP was fired and the two of us had to clean out his office. We found the unopened Pannetone we gave him with card attached, in one of his file cabinets.

That’s a funny story r3!
by Anonymous | reply 4 | December 3, 2019 3:31 AM |
What is it?
by Anonymous | reply 5 | December 3, 2019 3:36 AM |
There actually quite good. Toasted with butter or made into french toast.
Also, they're from Brazil, not Italy.
Now you know. And why Coco? Was the much funnier Evie Harris not available?
by Anonymous | reply 6 | December 3, 2019 3:47 AM |
*They're* oops.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | December 3, 2019 3:48 AM |
I generally don't find drag queens funny but I've always though Coco could carry her own sitcom with good writers.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | December 3, 2019 3:55 AM |
I bet that panettone would make a good bread pudding. If it’s stale, better still.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | December 3, 2019 4:00 AM |
Still raped over here!
by Anonymous | reply 10 | December 3, 2019 4:01 AM |
Brazilian here. Best brand is Bauducco. By the way, Pannetone was first made in Italy and brought to Brazil by the Italians circa 1900s.. Highly popular over there and I love going to Brazilian stores around Boston and get myself a nice Pannetone. My favorite is the chocolate version (Chocotone).

R6 is correct - Panettone French toast is amazing. Make a bourbon maple cream syrup to to finish it off and you don't even need Xmas dinner - guests will eat about 3 servings. AMAZING.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | December 3, 2019 5:39 AM |
Hmmm Ive never tried Pannetone, but the french toast idea might push me into doing so
by Anonymous | reply 13 | December 4, 2019 9:18 AM |
I cant believe some of you have never tried it. Ive eaten 2 Panettones since Thanksgiving! Im being a fat whore for the holidays!
by Anonymous | reply 14 | December 4, 2019 12:14 PM |
Love Panettone. My partner makes an orange/chocolate bread pudding and it's delicious.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | December 4, 2019 4:06 PM |
Y'all can keep it. Do not like candied citron.

Where is the Christmas 2018 Fruitcake Bitch? I want another damn fruitcake with extra rum & green candied cherries to help celebrate the Baby Jesus' Birthday! She better put out!

At Christmas, it's all about the cannoli.

by Anonymous | reply 24 | December 17, 2019 3:00 PM |
R24 Great description! My mum loves it too. It does make good french toast with a splash of Grand Marnier.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | December 17, 2019 3:21 PM |
r24 anyone who doesn't like Panettone is a broken person!

Has anyone ever tried pandoro? Is that basically like panettone sans the raisins?
by Anonymous | reply 30 | December 17, 2019 10:18 PM |
Why not just eat a fucking kitchen sponge? It'll have more flavor.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | December 17, 2019 10:19 PM |
I like it with butter AND Nutella

The Morgan Library NYC currently has an exhibit on Verdi's last two operas which were slow slogging. There is a letter written on Christmas Day to Verdi from La Scala urging him to finish "Otello". As an enticement they sent him a pannetone.

Just eat Challah with the toppings of your choice.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | December 17, 2019 10:26 PM |
What's a good brand? The ones I remember eating, years ago, were always dry. I'm lazy - any supermarket brand worth a shot?
by Anonymous | reply 35 | December 17, 2019 10:31 PM |
Pannetone is of Italian (Milan) origin, not Brazilian, though it became popular there and many other countries.
Panettone is an Italian type of sweet bread loaf originally from Milan (in the local Milanese dialect it is called panetton, usually prepared and enjoyed for Christmas and New Year in Western, Southern, and Southeastern Europe as well as in Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, the Horn of Africa,[5] Australia, and to a lesser extent in former French, Spanish, and Portuguese colonies.
You're Welcome

World Market has quite a selection of Panettone.
I can also testify to its wonderfulness as french toast.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | December 17, 2019 10:31 PM |
Just to be clear, while shopping yesterday I found a giant display of Panettone at our local Walgreens.
These are the ones in the cool yellow pyramid shaped boxes.
Each and every one was imported. Imported from Brazil.

I hate those things and I am Italian. There are like a giant Italian fruitcake only less dense and without the neon color fruit.

After watching that Coco video, I got stuck on YouTube for 2 hours watching more of her videos. She's very funny and as someone above said, she could have a great sitcom.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | December 20, 2019 12:18 PM |
Where I live, there's something similar, ma senza i frutti cattivi.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | December 20, 2019 12:23 PM |
Lightly toasted slathered in butter they're delicious with your morning coffee. And yes, french toast. OMG. R3, I bet if the Panettone was never opened, it was still edible! My mother had one sitting in it's original box on top of the refrigerator for like, a year, and then she died. No, she did. And we opened it and my brother ripped off a hunk smiled and said it was still good. So we ate it. Ma would've been happy.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | December 20, 2019 12:27 PM |
I ate a whole panettone by myself yesterday.

by Anonymous | reply 45 | December 27, 2019 3:26 AM |
R45, no, they have it at the Market District in Shadyside.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | December 27, 2019 3:35 AM |
Ah yes, the Giant Eagle that's even more expensive than regular Giant Eagles! LOL
by Anonymous | reply 47 | December 27, 2019 3:36 AM |
r47 Is it, actually? I think it just carries more, and more expensive, items. But the ones they both carry are priced identically. Am I wrong?
by Anonymous | reply 48 | December 27, 2019 3:43 AM |
No, you're not wrong. But as you said, they focus on upscale options. Thus the checkout bill is usually more expensive!
by Anonymous | reply 49 | December 27, 2019 3:46 AM |
I’d rather bake a Bundt cake in my gothic cathedral-shaped Bundt pan.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | December 27, 2019 3:49 AM |
Read the ingredients. Buy the one with the least ingredients and NO VEGETABLE OIL. You may spend 10 to 120 bucks. So difficult to recommend a brand. In my parts it is all half price after Christmas so one may trade up. But an all butter Italian one, even store brand cheapie, can be just fine.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | December 27, 2019 4:02 AM |
For those who really have never tried it, it is a yeast bread cured in a similar way to sourdough, then flavored with dried fruits. The curing of the dough gives it a very light texture, but it is not a cake. It also accounts for the suggestion of an alcohol flavoring. It's traditionally served with a mascarpone cream or zabaione and either a hot drink or a glass of sparkling wine.
It's worth it to shop around for one without raisins. You get more of the citrus flavors. I love it as is, with a cup of hot cocoa, but as nearly everyone else has mentioned it makes an awesome french toast or bread pudding. Growing up in Argentina we had several versions of this.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | December 27, 2019 4:42 AM |
For the adventuresome readers who may be uninitiated, and wish to try it, do NOT get the Whole Foods version. No good.
