Binge-able fun.
Watching it right now. Looks like they're finally trying to make John Halbach's character not straight.

The guy oh the right is hot! Also, just checked it out on Netflix, why are the season one episodes so short?
by Anonymous | reply 2 | December 1, 2019 5:46 PM |
It was originally just a web series

Television has a so-so track record with series focused on adult gay men, particularly gay male couples: LOOKING, QUEER AS FOLK, NOAH'S ARK, DTLA. (I will not include WILL & GRACE, thanks.)
I think EASTSIDERS is one of the better ones.

At first I thought I'd hate the roadtrip season, but it turned out rather well imho.

I wish they'd actually dramatized their stay in NYC. They just showed the beginning and end of it.

Is this the one with Ham Hansis?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | December 1, 2019 8:05 PM |
Are Van Hansis and Tyler Hanes still together? Wiki says their relationship began in 2007.

Kit Williamson needs to do something about that hair. It betrays his white trash roots.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | December 2, 2019 12:23 AM |
Kit needs to know that he's too old to try to pull off the hairstyle he had in season 4. He looks better with a more normal haircut.

The guy on the right of OP's pic has a Hugh Jackman vibe.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | December 2, 2019 12:35 AM |
Okay, they DID do a (short) flashback ep of their time in NYC, and it's a rather good one.
I don't love all the directions this 4th season is going in, but overall, the quality of writing and most of the acting is superior to most of LOOKING, and on a fraction of that show's budget, apparently.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | December 2, 2019 3:16 AM |
Who cares about the content. It's a shit show, terrible writing, terrible acting.
But the guys have decent bodies. Is there any good nudity?

The doctor seems to be the only character you could stand to be in a room with for more than two minutes. The cute boyfriend with zero personality does not deserve him.
No one believed that Halbach's character was ever really straight, but who knew how much his inner queen was screaming to be let out.
That's the most tiresome, loathsome drag queen in the universe. I have to fast forward through all her scenes.
Oh, of course the Atlantic would buy the essay about the two gays on a road trip hooking up with a thieving hustler written by the cater waiter with a paperback YA novel as his only credit. Oh well, there WAS that essay in the Paris Review that one time. Paris, TX, that is.

Daniel Newman should have been given a bigger role. Kt Williams's character is so annoying . anf i don't even want to talk about thta drag queen storyline

I can only think that this gets even the limited acclaim it does because there's so little original gay content out in the world. But it really is poorly plotted, written, acted and produced. Surprised that Netflix picked it up.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | December 6, 2019 12:56 PM |
The only reason Netflix picked it up was because it was already done. Anyone can produce anything for them, especially if it's already paid for.

I get this confused with INDOOR BOYS, but that series is much better. This has it's moments, but I tried watching the first episode of the new season and it was deadly dull.

I see that great thespian Traci Lords is back to dazzle us with her talent as the ugly one's mother.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | December 7, 2019 6:30 PM |
Just watched season 4 and liked it very much. Love horror queen Lin Shaye's guest appearance. Love campy Tracey (who also is in another campy, low budget, gay movie called Steam Room Stories: The Movie). I thought they handled the whole bi story line this season pretty well. I am glad that the gay couples (Cal & Thom / Jeremy & Derrick) worked out their issues.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | December 8, 2019 6:36 PM |
Ups, sorry. Of course her name is Traci (not Tracey).
by Anonymous | reply 26 | December 8, 2019 6:37 PM |
I liked Season 4 better than any of the previous seasons. It seemed less focused on ticking off a list of issues and playing every character at full-tilt. That said, t would have been vastly better if all of the too many scenes of the wretched drag queen and the hopeless boyfriend had been cut.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | December 10, 2019 2:00 PM |
Agreed, R27. I can't help but think it was that the leads were not as available as they might have been. Wretched drag and her BF had to do a lot of heavy lifting this season, and frankly, they're just not that interesting.
I've rarely thought, "Wow. We really need more Constance Wu again." But this was one of those occasions.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | December 10, 2019 2:43 PM |
Oh, so THAT's where Van Haznisssssssss went off to!
by Anonymous | reply 29 | December 10, 2019 2:47 PM |
Imo the drag queen and her boyfriend provided much needed comic relief. Without it people would nitpick about the sappy Lifetime movie drama in Jeremy and Derrick's storyline (fostering a child while having relationship problems).

Since his QEFTSG days, Jai Rodriguez has gotten, well, "husky."
Porn god Adam Ramzi shows up for the fun, looking nicely cleaned up.
