Elizabeth Banks just directed a megaflop, but she’s been hired to star and direct another movie because of... wokeness?

Does anyone actually like this bitch?

She played a Jenna Jameson-ish porn star in an episode of L&O SVU.

I remember because her husband played by the Saved by Bell guy (that wasn't Mario Lopez or Screech) was shot in an alley and found to have multiple types of semen in his anus.

Found out that he was was a gay4pay pronstar and doing multiple bareback gangbangs. They both were doing porn to pay for their daughters cystic fibrosis treatment.

The Wrigleyville Cumdump has got some competition!

Any way back to the main topic. Yeah Elizabeth Banks played another pornstar in Zack and Miri. I guess that was before she got woke.

I'm getting a KJ Apa vibe from the dude.

Straight white men get to direct flop after flop and no one seems to stop them.

IMO Charlie's Angels should have gotten the Brady Bunch Movie treatment instead of trying to take it seriously.

by Anonymousreply 3November 27, 2019 4:16 AM

I like her. Smart. Probably now show to play the game like Damon and Affleck and Jodie Foster. As with all capitalism, it’s only 15% talent and 85% perseverance and playing the game. A weird world. But of all the overpaid, undeservedly successful people in this world, Elizabeth Banks is one of the least worthy of scorn.

by Anonymousreply 4November 27, 2019 4:33 AM

Basically it's her team hustling to soften the blow of the CA flop- see- she's still desirable! She made money for Universal with her Pitch Perfect series, and probably strong armed them into a corner with her "wokeness" and lady power.

by Anonymousreply 5November 27, 2019 4:34 AM

No, She's homophibic

by Anonymousreply 6November 27, 2019 4:50 AM

Apparently the movie wasn't that bad, just nobody wants to see it

by Anonymousreply 7November 27, 2019 4:56 AM

R3

Hollywood remakes these days either take something serious and make it silly or take something silly and make it serious. I guess that's their lazy way of being "creative" while they refuse to create anything genuinely new.

by Anonymousreply 8November 27, 2019 5:03 AM

Woke? Ok Greta. Lame AF.

by Anonymousreply 9November 27, 2019 5:07 AM

OP has it wrong. She's not failing upwards. While I have no idea of a timeline on this project, it's totally likely that the project was purchased months ago. Maybe even last year. This is an announcement, not necessarily a brand new piece of business. It's meant to show she's still working even if she isn't. Might be an active project that Universal plans on making. Or not. It's possible Universal wont move forward with it based on Charlies Angels bombing.

My guess is that Universal would still be happy to do the movie at a low price. Charlie's Angels didn't make money but reviews were OK. Those that didn't like it didn't hate it. It's possible Sony had a good experience with her as a director, meaning she was easy to deal with and kept the train moving on schedule and on budget (and even though it went slightly over, they spent next less than half of what McG spent 20 years ago).

by Anonymousreply 10November 27, 2019 5:28 AM

I guess you could say I've liked her ever since she played Brian Wilson's second wife Melinda in the [italic]Love & Mercy[/italic] biopic. I haven't gone out of my way to see or watch anything she's been in since, however.

Is she really homophobic?

by Anonymousreply 11November 27, 2019 5:36 AM

Weirdly I've heard that she's a secret Trumpster.

by Anonymousreply 12November 27, 2019 5:37 AM

I like her a lot as an actress but if she’s a secret Trumper I may have to hate her. Yes, I am now to the point where I think any and all trump supporters should get cancelled. At least until he does, then I’ll reconsider.

by Anonymousreply 13November 27, 2019 5:47 AM

You r all just jealous because I played Rita Repulsa in the last (not literally I hope) Power Rangers movie.

I wearing something that looks like Lady Gaga's costume rejects.

The writer Erin Cressida Wilson adapted Secretary with James Spader and Maggie Gyllenhaal. Hopefully this will also be kinky.

by Anonymousreply 15November 27, 2019 11:01 AM

I like Elizabeth Banks, and I just don't believe she would be a Trump supporter, that would be ridiculous based on what I know about her.

I have to admit I lost respect for her for blaming the box office failure of her Charlie's Angels film on people being misogynistic. It just had lukewarm reviews, with 2 stars who are not household names and 1 who is not exactly bankable/well liked, and a lot of people have grown bored with constant franchise and reboot nonsense. If it was an entertaining film with popular stars like the Cameron/Drew/Lucy films then it would have been successful, like their films were.

She can't admit that the film was the problem, because she was the writer, director, producer and actor on it. So the failure of the film is more her responsibility than anyone else's. I get that she's not going to say "My film wasn't good which is why it bombed" but blaming it on lady-hating isn't a good look. Just say something like "I guess it didn't connect with audiences the way we hoped, but I'm proud of the work we did and I loved the experience."

by Anonymousreply 16November 27, 2019 11:05 AM

Agreed r3. The 2000s Charlie’s Angels was almost like Austin Powers in tone. This was like a standard bad action movie.

by Anonymousreply 17November 27, 2019 11:05 AM
No, She's homophibic

Since when??
they spent next less than half of what McG spent 20 years ago).

I remember his name used to be [italic] everywhere [/italic] back in the 00s. Is he still working?

by Anonymousreply 18November 27, 2019 11:06 AM

Listen to her Dax Shepherd Armchair Expert podcast from a few months ago. She’s no Trump supporter. Whoever raised that is out of his mind.

by Anonymousreply 19November 27, 2019 11:20 AM

R18 He made that awful Terminator Salvation with Christian Bale.

He was supposed to do a live action version of Hot Wheels (yes the toy cars) in the style of TFATF but that got cancelled.

I guess directing Korn videos can only get you so far.

by Anonymousreply 20November 27, 2019 11:29 AM

I love Elizabeth Banks. And based on everything I’ve heard out of her mouth, she’s definitely NOT a Trumpster.

by Anonymousreply 21November 27, 2019 11:32 AM

OP = MAGAt. F&F

by Anonymousreply 22November 27, 2019 11:33 AM

R21, she was at the Democratic convention at 2016 and took the stage.

by Anonymousreply 23November 27, 2019 11:34 AM

Here, for the morons who called her a Trumper.

R20 yeah he's been involved with a lot of shitty projects (except for The OC).

Liz is NOT a Trumpster. What the Jesus?

She made that horrifically cringe pro-Hills video to “Fight Song.”

Her Hollywood hates Women campaign was very clever. She got exactly what she wants. But if this film flops oh, she needs to STFU.

by Anonymousreply 27November 27, 2019 12:03 PM

OK she did fine with her first movie, "Pitch Perfect 2", people wanted more from the first one. Nobody was asking for a reboot of "Charlie's Angels" especially with such a lackluster cast. Now she's doing it again making something no is asking for with "The Invisible Woman" which will follow the latest "The Invisible Man" .

Jon Chu had some of the biggest flops in cinema history and I've worked with him. He's racist. But he was STILL given film after film. He lucked up finally with crazy rich Asians and now directing the IN THE HEIGHTS movie.

by Anonymousreply 29November 27, 2019 12:48 PM
OK she did fine with her first movie, "Pitch Perfect 2", people wanted more from the first one.

There was a third PP movie and it sucked.
Jon Chu had some of the biggest flops in cinema history and I've worked with him. He's racist.

How is he racist??

by Anonymousreply 30November 27, 2019 12:52 PM
There was a third PP movie and it sucked.

Banks didn't direct that one, she had moved on to Angels.

by Anonymousreply 31November 27, 2019 1:00 PM

R30 I worked with him on STEP UP 3D. They were filming a scene with all these black guys doing dance tricks in a room. He turned to one of the crew members and said, "They look like a bunch of monkeys." Direct quote.

by Anonymousreply 32November 27, 2019 1:10 PM

R32, why don’t you go public with your story? Why stay quiet and protect the racist since there were multiple witnesses based on your story?

by Anonymousreply 33November 27, 2019 1:16 PM

R33 Well, the only witnesses were me and the person he said it to. He didn't know I heard it. He didn't yell it out loud. I didn't say anything to anyone about it. It was just noted in my mind along with all the other shit I've seen and heard celebrities do and say. I've only told a couple of people and this is my first time mentioning it publicly. I really don't think anyone is gonna care what a nobody like me has to say. haha. It is what it is. Doesn't seem worth it.

by Anonymousreply 34November 27, 2019 1:26 PM

I've been told that the original treatment that she was shopping around for a couple years (psychological thriller or drama å la Joker) has nothing to do with "Invisible Man" franchise. It's a very misleading title.

by Anonymousreply 35November 27, 2019 1:39 PM

White privilege.

by Anonymousreply 36November 27, 2019 1:51 PM

She sounds like a female Guy Ritchie....Some people are just regarded as Players in Hollywood. That their movies are lousy or bomb doesn't really matter.

by Anonymousreply 37November 27, 2019 3:13 PM

She’s smart and funny. OP is neither.

by Anonymousreply 38November 27, 2019 3:18 PM

She was great on 30 Rock & Modern Family.

by Anonymousreply 39November 27, 2019 3:44 PM

So far she is 50/50 and realistically Angels will never make a profit but it will recoup after all the 4K, DVD/Blu-ray, On Demand, PPV, Hotel Airline rentals, streaming, premium cable, basic Cable, Network and local TV fees all over the world come in.

by Anonymousreply 40November 27, 2019 3:57 PM

She did say openly before the film opened that if it flops it would because manbabies don't want to see empowered women. Well it seems there were a lot of women who didn't want to see it either. But even the male directors are giving the woke excuse like Rian Johnson and Jar Jar Abrams. Movies flop because men are misogynistic. Any movie that has a strong female character will bomb because men can't stomach them. Very bizarre.

by Anonymousreply 41November 27, 2019 6:20 PM

I'm simply not interested in the material. Rework of a rework.

by Anonymousreply 42November 27, 2019 6:21 PM

Elizabeth Banks is the worst type of SJW: white, blonde, and female. I'm a gay Latino and I find them to have the worst white guilt and white savior complex. It's like they're trying to prove something. Brie Larson and Ellen Pompeo are other two that come to mind. I'm a gay Latino and I'm so sick of them being offended for me! I want freedom of expression back in the arts!

by Anonymousreply 43November 27, 2019 10:14 PM

I quickly typed out the above, so forgive me for repeating myself.

by Anonymousreply 44November 27, 2019 10:15 PM

But are you a gay Latino?

by Anonymousreply 45November 27, 2019 11:20 PM

Glad to hear she’s not a Trumper, she’s funny, talented and versatile. I’m rooting for her success. She seems like she’s one of the good ones and I’m heartened to hear she tries to use her position to do some good.

by Anonymousreply 46November 27, 2019 11:35 PM

R45 Yes, in fact, an immigrant from Central America and naturalized US citizen.

by Anonymousreply 47November 27, 2019 11:35 PM

R46 policing freedom of speech and blaming men and whites for everything is not a good thing! It doesn't solve anything. Just creates more strife. Being on the far left or far right (i.e., extremists) is never a good thing, because they're not willing to compromise. But what we all need to get along and find a way to do so.

by Anonymousreply 48November 27, 2019 11:39 PM

I liked her as an actress; I thought she was a naturally funny performer, and also did well in serious roles (I liked her a lot in "The Uninvited," even though it was ridiculous). But the more I read about her, the more insufferable she seems. Her comments on the "Charlie's Angels" flop cemented my opinion that she is braindead.

by Anonymousreply 49December 11, 2019 12:40 AM

Liza Banks is really a man. He does not look feminine at all. Gotta love hollyweird for pushing these transfolk.

by Anonymousreply 50December 11, 2019 12:46 AM

"Elizabeth Banks is the worst type of SJW: white, blonde, and female. I'm a gay Latino and I find them to have the worst white guilt and white savior complex. "

I agree. Women need to be more like men: nothing is ever my fault and I dont give a shit about anyone besides myself.

by Anonymousreply 51December 11, 2019 1:02 AM

Doesn't she host Press your luck? No whammies. And Stop.

by Anonymousreply 52December 11, 2019 1:09 AM

R51 w the pushing of the trans pedophilia agenda onto society that was the last step in erasing females entirely. There is no female sex anymore when an ugly roided out man like Serena or Venus Williams can claim to be female. Yuck. He is an abomination to all that is good.

by Anonymousreply 53December 11, 2019 1:11 AM

She should direct or act in a single film. Doing both at the same time is her downfall.

by Anonymousreply 54December 11, 2019 1:25 AM

Maybe she was just too ambitious. It was a huge action picture endeavor for anyone's second picture.

by Anonymousreply 55December 11, 2019 8:14 AM

R55- the thing is that CA was mainly an action buddy pic. She has never directed action films, and it suffered (they went through 2 stunt coordinators and 2 costume designers). Much like the "Birds of Prey" (where they had to draft "John Wick"'s director for the reshoots, while they kept the original director to direct the "emotional" content).

by Anonymousreply 56December 12, 2019 5:50 PM

I'm not a huge fan of Banks, but Charlie's Angel was a well directed film. It was not sensational or above average, but it was a lot better than a lot of the "efforts" of male directors who get hired flop after flop. Call it "wokeness." whereas I call it evening the playing field.

Now, it would be even more delicious if more women of color got director gigs.

by Anonymousreply 57December 12, 2019 5:55 PM

R43: estás mal de la cabeza. I'd rather white guilt than no guilt.

by Anonymousreply 58December 12, 2019 5:56 PM

The one thing R43 wants to be more than anything else is white, blond, and female. Hence the hostility.
