Said that it’s intimidating. Poll worker flipped out when they began filming with their phone.
Voter Gets Upset That Bible Was On Table At Polling Station

I wouldn't call it "intimidating" but religious books have no place at a polling station. These fuckers really do want to live in the Handmaid's Tale, don't they?

Good for her, OP. We need less religion, not more.

Can you imagine how upset religious people would get if I left some gay rainbow book on display at some church booth function?
by Anonymous | reply 3 | November 12, 2019 3:53 PM |
As a child, I brought this to read in church once and was stoned after the service.

Absolutely inappropriate for the Bible to be out on a table at a polling station. The fact that they freaked out when filmed says a lot about their intentions.

Separation of church and State...bibles stay at home!

Now that I think about it, my polling station is in a church. It use to be in a fire station, but it got moved two elections ago

Place a Koran next to it and watch them freak out even more.

Ours have been in churches for years but I've never seen religious iconography of any kind when voting there, they've always taken great pains to make it non-secular. So hearing that someone brought a Bible to show in a prominent place makes me pretty suspicious.

I used to volunteer to work at the polls and the one for my neighborhood was in a church. It wasn't a Catholic church, so no statues -- just a Jazzercise class down the hall with LOUD bump and grind music. Local law forbids "electioneering" in or near polling places, so we weren't allowed to bring newspapers with us to read during breaks -- a Bible or any religious book wouldn't have been illegal, but obviously inappropriate.
R9, I think you meant to say "secular", which means "of the world" (non-religious).

Now that I remember, our polling place used to be some sort of Korean Church. They’ve since moved it to a elementary school.
I’d throw it out the door if I saw one at my voting place.

Thanks R10, I did mean "secular."
by Anonymous | reply 12 | November 12, 2019 4:50 PM |
I came in to say what r11 did -- I would literally pick that shit up and throw it out the fucking door if I saw a Bible sitting there. Fuck these creeps and fuck their sky fairy in his great big cavernous asshole

The fact that the poll worker started the interaction with, "oh here we go again girl..." proves that she was trolling and expecting conflict because of what she did. Once she started in with "I will take that phone and shove it up your ass" would be grounds for never ever having her be a poll worker again. I hope the Board of Elections removes the mouthy cunt.
I believe that they get paid for the day and are not volunteers, right?

How Christian of her.

Agreed. Either the poll worker was trying to troll people or worse, was actually trying to influence people with the bible.
Either way, the poll worker should be charged with violating state or federal election laws. "Passive electioneering is the act of wearing campaign paraphernalia or carrying signs to a polling place with the intent of influencing voters. Across the United States laws vary relating to passive electioneering."

EVERYBODYs offended

It might give you justification for murdering the pole worker and you can always say that well she wore clothing of mixed fibers. Gods book says she should die

I doubt that the Bible's presence would violate laws against passive electioneering, unless Jesus were a candidate. But the County Registrar of Voters was responsible for operating the polls where I volunteered and they were authorized to establish dress codes and otherwise maintain a "respectable" and "neutral" atmosphere in the polling place -- for example: business casual attire, blue jeans OK if clean and not too tight or too low-slung, no short shorts or low cut tank tops, no flip flops, etc. If someone wanted to put a copy of "Playboy" on his table to read during his break, he could properly be asked to put it under his chair rather than displaying it -- same with watching porn on your tablet or phone, etc. If I were in charge of a polling place, I'd ask a worker with a religious tome to put it out of sight and take it outside to read during breaks -- not because it's political or obscene but because it's provocative and therefore unsuitable in a government office (which is what a polling place is).

Typical Philly trash working those polling stations. That city is packed to the gills with lowlifes like that.

[quote] ... the pole worker ....
R18, a pole worker and a poll worker are two very different things. Please be sure to check your spelling before you apply for either job.

I saw one in the rack of an eye doctor once. I never went back.

This isn't in some backwater town in Mississippi. This is in PHILADELPHIA.
I was bruised and battered,
I was torn apart
I was unrecognizable to myself

Next time, this lady needs to volunteer to be a poll worker, bring a copy of the Satanic Bible, and insist on displaying it alongside the regular bible.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | November 12, 2019 11:57 PM |
Bible meets trash can. Everybody wins.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | November 13, 2019 12:11 AM |
Lol, so one obscure bible book on a table is "offensive" - but all the cash in voters' wallets saying "In GOD we trust" is not "offensive"? Every President in recent decades saying (while in office) "GOD bless America" - not "offensive"?
The US is a land of ridiculous contradictions. If you're going to be "offended" - at least be offended by the bigger things.

If Christian poll workers want to pull this shit, they should be forced to display the Quran, Dianetics, a book of shadows, the Satanic Bible, and a copy of God Is Not Great just as prominently and in the same location as the Christian Bible.
