Record-Breaking Cold Temperatures Will Hit Most of the Country Next Week

Baby, it's about to be very cold outside. Although a large part of the country is currently experiencing a drop in temperatures thanks to a southward moving jet stream, next week will be even colder, according to The Weather Channel. In fact, the frigid temperatures are expected to be record-breaking for many areas.

Early next week, a cold front will hit the Midwest and East coast, and will soon be followed by another front that will sweep through the same area, as well as the Southern Plains and Deep South. These systems will not only bring some of the chilliest temperatures of the season, but also some of the lowest temperatures ever recorded for November. The National Weather Service predicts a whopping 190 temperature records could be broken from Monday, November 11, to Wednesday, November 13.

On Monday, residents in the Northern Plains and upper Midwest will see highs in the teens, and those in the Central Plains and mid-Mississippi Valley will see just slightly warmer temperatures in the 20s. If you think that's cold, the peak of this frigid front will actually be on Tuesday. The Northeast will have lows in the teens, parts of the South and Central plains will experience lows in the single digits, and the Northern Plains will see single-digit below zero temperatures. It will even be quite cold in the Deep South with lows in the 20s and 30s from Tuesday into Thursday. The Weather Channel notes these cold temperatures are usually experienced in January--not November.

And if you live in the Great Lakes region, you might also experience some lake-effect snow next week. However, the majority of the country will be dry, just extremely cold. (However, both the Farmers' Almanac and The Old Farmer's Almanac predict there will be several major storms this winter, so there will be plenty of snow to go around.) With such chilling temperatures, we advise you get any outdoor tasks, such as putting up Christmas decorations, done this weekend. You definitely do not want to be spending time outside next week.

I LOVE cold weather! I love sitting by the fireplace or curling up in bed watching a movie when it’s cold. It’s so romantic.

by Anonymousreply 1November 9, 2019 2:42 AM

If you were planning on putting up Christmas decorations next week - weeks before Thanksgiving - I hope you fucking freeze to death.

Honestly, I would prefer you to die in a much more painful manner than that.

Global Warming!

R6 The season to be jolly starts in December, motherfucker

by Anonymousreply 9November 9, 2019 2:53 AM

I’m officially over it already, Hit freezing in NYC and it felt like the Arctic. Blowing wind down the street. All I could think is I want out of here. I usually don’t mind - but it’s so early and we were just having a nice Fall. Suddenly it’s midwinter. Ready to head South - or West. This sucks.

by Anonymousreply 13November 9, 2019 3:07 AM

Florida's not lookin' so bad now, eh boys?

by Anonymousreply 14November 9, 2019 3:08 AM

Record cold will hit the most of the country next week as record warmth hits Alaska, Yukon and British Columbia, Canada. This will dislodge the cold air onto the eastern 2/3rds of the continent. Many states will see record lows and record low highs. Here in Chicago, will be about 25 degrees below average, with highs in the 20s by Monday and Tuesday. This it too early for this shit.

by Anonymousreply 15November 9, 2019 3:12 AM

R2, people who live where the ground freezes in November and snow is a near-certainty prior to December have to put up their outdoor decorations before that happens. It's a matter of safety. Ladders and roofs and snow are dangerous combinations. Lawn ornaments have to be staked down so December gales don't blow them all over the neighborhood, meaning they have to be set in place before the ground freezes.

I used to do a giant, ebulliently tacky Christmas display. After the first time on the roof after the snow had accumulated, I wised up and began setting it up in early November (though I didn't turn it on until the first weekend in December).

Usually, when there's a Polar Vortex in the Midwest and Northeast, R15, the weather on the West coast is unseasonably warm.

It's pretty rare that you'll get extreme cold across the entire country.

Chilly this morning here in Marion County, Marie @ R42. It went down to the 50s last night. But tomorrow's supposed to be warmer.

by Anonymousreply 47November 10, 2019 12:44 PM

I live in Sonoma. We used to have something approaching seasons--at least for California. Very mild ones, but you had them. Now? 70s today. It got down to *maybe* the high 40s last night. Supposed to hit the fucking low 80s tomorrow. WHAT!? I could never, every live in snowy/icy regions, but this really does get tedious, and I miss my childhood weather. I'm not even that much of an eldergay--OK, 52, so...dino enough--anyway it feels foreign and unsettling.

I don't mean to sound like an asshole to people who are putting up with this upcoming cold blast. Sorry. Hope all in the path get through it quickly and as easy as possible.

by Anonymousreply 72November 11, 2019 2:46 PM

The average temperature falls 10 degrees in November. At the beginning of the month average high is 62, by the end of the month average high is 52.

by Anonymousreply 73November 11, 2019 2:48 PM

And......r73, what would the average for the month be then? Come on. I know you can do it.

by Anonymousreply 74November 11, 2019 2:51 PM

by Anonymousreply 75November 11, 2019 2:53 PM

by Anonymousreply 83November 11, 2019 3:34 PM

Tempatures fluctuate it is not a big deal. In the 80s, one year is was 25 below on Christmas day. At this point we are in the middle of global warming and nothing will save us. I guess the fish will die first and it just keeps coming.

by Anonymousreply 84November 11, 2019 3:40 PM

The reason DC is warm today, is because the cold front moves from West to East.

That's why the Midwest was cold on Sunday and Monday.

However, the cold will move East starting on Tuesday, DC person in the 60's. Just you wait.

by Anonymousreply 85November 11, 2019 4:44 PM

Snowbirds have been flocking to Vegas where it's down to a cold 53 at night. Average temperature for Las Vegas in Nov is only 35 so I shouldn't complain too loudly. At least it's been mid-70's during the day.

We may dip slightly below 70 next week! Time to break out the longjohns and the woolen mittens.

It was 28° yesterday morning 40 miles inland from Savannah, Ga., and it won't get above the mid 40s today. Plus it's grey and rainy today and tomorrow. I love this kind of weather.
