The Nation Calls for Joe Biden to ‘Withdraw From The Race’ in Stunning ‘Anti-Endorsement’ Column

The Nation published an “anti-endorsement” of 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, Thursday, calling on the former Vice President to “withdraw from the race” so the Democratic Party has a chance against President Donald Trump.

In an editorial, The Nation wrote that Biden’s chance against President Trump in 2020 “has become increasingly threadbare.”

“Like Hillary Clinton in 2016, Joe Biden offers the promise of picking up where the Obama administration left off: a restoration of business as usual for the K Street lobbyists and Wall Street speculators whose prosperity the 2008 financial crisis did little to disturb,” the magazine proclaimed. “The candidate who insists Medicare for All is too expensive for Americans is also the candidate who, like Clinton, endorsed NAFTA, China’s admission to the World Trade Organization, and the Trans-Pacific Partnership—all of which have savaged US manufacturing and workers.”

The Nation continued that “Biden’s long record of poor judgment,” ranging from the Iraq War to Wall Street, “renders him an even weaker opponent for a president whose reelection poses a clear and present danger to America’s survival as a constitutional republic.”

“Stumbling through the primaries, Biden’s zombie campaign crowds out worthier challengers, handing Trump a free pass on the very issues that should be his Achilles’ heel,” the magazine explained, adding, “The Nation therefore calls on Biden to put service to country above personal ambition and withdraw from the race.”

“Let us be clear: Joe Biden is not a crook,” the editorial concluded. “But that doesn’t make it right or a winning platform. Biden and his backers need to face the facts. It may still be unclear which Democrat is best positioned to beat Donald Trump, but we know one thing: The answer is not Joe Biden.”

Wow, now that's the truth.

by Anonymousreply 1November 8, 2019 8:15 PM

The Nation is still around?

by Anonymousreply 2November 8, 2019 8:19 PM

What’s their circulation? About a dozen?

by Anonymousreply 3November 8, 2019 8:24 PM

Hey you, yes you, the frontrunner, the person consistently leading the polls and the only candidate who beats Trump in every battleground state. You need to drop out!

by Anonymousreply 4November 8, 2019 8:52 PM

Truthfully, though I love Warren, Biden is the one who can beat trump hands down

by Anonymousreply 5November 8, 2019 9:04 PM

LOL! Remember how “safe” we were with Hillary?

by Anonymousreply 6November 8, 2019 9:06 PM

Right. Because Warren is going to win Pennsylvania, Ohio Michigan, Wisconsin and Florida 🙄

by Anonymousreply 7November 8, 2019 9:14 PM

What will he do? The Nation holds unparalleled influence over the hearts and minds of the nation's citizenry!

by Anonymousreply 8November 8, 2019 9:27 PM

I had no idea the most left wing of the party was unhappy about Biden winning the nomination! This relevation will make waves!

by Anonymousreply 9November 8, 2019 9:29 PM

So a handful of 80 - 90 year old Jewish folk have decided Joe should withdraw, when a recent poll indicted that only Joe could beat Trump in the few swing states that decide the election...

by Anonymousreply 10November 8, 2019 9:31 PM

I’m so over the Anti-Biden trolls. Trump is terrified of going up against Biden.

by Anonymousreply 11November 8, 2019 9:34 PM

I’m so over the Anti-Biden trolls. Trump is terrified of going up against Biden.

by Anonymousreply 12November 8, 2019 9:34 PM

"Hey you, yes you, the frontrunner, the person consistently leading the polls and the only candidate who beats Trump in every battleground state. You need to drop out! "

We will remember that after the first debate with Trump when it becomes clear how fucked we were to run him against Trump.

by Anonymousreply 13November 8, 2019 9:56 PM

Biden's now claiming that Republicans are going to have an "epiphany" after Trump leaves office and come their senses.

And the worst part is, some democrats are falling for this fairytale.

r13

Debates don't matter. If debates mattered, hilary would be president and the democratic candidate polling would meaningfully change after the nomination debates--she is not and they have not.

by Anonymousreply 15November 8, 2019 11:46 PM

Wow. For a left wing magazine with small circulation (but has been around since 1865), the Biden trolls are sure scared of this column. Huh.

by Anonymousreply 16November 8, 2019 11:49 PM

Odd. It's like USA Today or the WSJ suggesting that Warren or Sanders drop out. The Nation's views don't align with a center-left Democrat. Shocker. (For the record, I'm for Warren).

by Anonymousreply 17November 8, 2019 11:56 PM

Well I think that the Nation's circulation just dropped to 11

by Anonymousreply 18November 9, 2019 12:07 AM

I will not vote for Biden. I won't bother.

by Anonymousreply 19November 9, 2019 12:18 AM

I refuse to believe that older black voters have forgotten what a bozo Biden is, they're just supporting him for now because they know how much white people love a clown. They will abandon him when the votes start coming in.

by Anonymousreply 20November 9, 2019 12:29 AM

R20 = Donald Trump Junior

by Anonymousreply 21November 9, 2019 12:33 AM

Am I a nice man? Fuck nice! They say terrible things about me in The Nation? Fuck The Nation!

You wanna be nice, or you wanna be effective?

by Anonymousreply 22November 9, 2019 12:34 AM

[quote] The candidate who insists Medicare for All is too expensive for Americans is also the candidate who, like Clinton, endorsed NAFTA, China’s admission to the World Trade Organization, and the Trans-Pacific Partnership—all of which have savaged US manufacturing and workers.

Biden did that and supported severely cutting the social safety net during Bill Clinton's time in office to try to agree with the republicans.

No one can work with republicans. FUCK THEM. I'll support anyone who will pay them back for every single thing they've stayed quiet about during trump's time in office

by Anonymousreply 23November 9, 2019 12:37 AM

Is this a Poo Shoes thread? Based on R23 I’m unsure!

by Anonymousreply 24November 9, 2019 12:39 AM

You heard it here. Debates don't matter.

by Anonymousreply 25November 9, 2019 12:52 AM

BIden has been cursed since the revelation of Hunter's $50,000 a month job in the Ukraine.

by Anonymousreply 26November 9, 2019 1:14 AM

R26 = Kellyanne. Trump purposely sought that info out released it because her is terrified of Biden

by Anonymousreply 27November 9, 2019 1:22 AM

Biden needs to stay in the race til the very end. As an insurance policy.

Yeah, they're jumping the gun here. If Biden were way down, I could maybe understand it. But Biden is still ahead in support and seems to be the one that Trump is worried about (eg. his attempt to get Ukraine to get dirt on Biden). So why would we want to lose Biden if he has a chance of beating Trump?

by Anonymousreply 30November 11, 2019 3:49 AM

Next week their anti-endorsement of the homosexsicle Mayor Pete.

by Anonymousreply 31November 11, 2019 3:51 AM

Endorsements DO NOT MATTER AT ALL!

Every newspaper in America except the National Enquirer endorsed Hillary and still 63 MILLION Americans voted for Trump! What does that tell you?

by Anonymousreply 32November 11, 2019 5:33 AM

[quote]Trump purposely sought that info out released it because her is terrified of Biden

Her sure is!

by Anonymousreply 35November 11, 2019 6:19 AM

Biden is not in it to win.. How many times do people need to get that drilled into their heads? There is an actual coalition within the establishment wing of the Democratic Party with an assist from the liberal mainstream media to prevent the real existential threat to the establishment from advancing and that is Bernie Sanders and nothing is off the table...

Biden along with Pete and Warren are there to try to sideline Bernie because the establishment knows their time of controlling the Democratic Party is coming to an end with progressives launching an all out civil war to take away power.

It's been said ad nauseam that the establishment Democrats would rather lose to a Republican than win with a progressive because progressives are calling for a total end to corporate donations flowing into the Democratic Party and overturning Citizens United and high profile leaders like Pelosi who has raised hundreds of millions over the years from corporate donors is not going to let that happen without a fight..

So we have this situation which has played out with several past election cycles with establishment Democrats tossing the election to the Republicans instead of siding with where the momentum lies and where the future of the party is heading and that is with progressives. Yes the establishment would rather lose the White House to a Republican than win with a progressive.

Why do you think you see this attempt which is bordering on desperation to try to push Pete to the forefront? He doesn't stand a chance in hell of winning but if all you read and listen to and watch is liberal mainstream media you would believe what you are told that Pete is on the cusp of winning the nomination..

Remember when Beto was the Golden Boy? Remember when Kamala was the Golden Girl? It wasn't too long ago that both of them were touted as the future of the Democratic Parry .. Who do you think was pushing that false narrative along?

Who do you think is behind the media blackout on Bernie Sanders and if you don't pay attention to polls that show his campaign is actually bouncing back you would think he is flailing.. Yet his numbers tell a different with polling higher with the multi-racial working class and with younger minorities and with that all important millennial bloc of voters.

[quote]...the Democratic Party with an assist from the liberal mainstream media to prevent the real existential threat to the establishment from advancing and that is Bernie Sanders...

Oh, my sides! MY SIDES!! Bwaahahaha!

The "threat" is that Bernie would lose 40 states and we'd get another four years of Trump! WTF does anyone see in Bernie that indicates leadership, or the ability to get any of his poorly presented notions passed into law! He's a complete mountebank, a coffeehouse Socialist who's never accomplished anything in his career! He's a nasty toxic little personality cult who thinks jabbing his wretched finger at all of us for not seeing his brilliance is some "solution"! Pure ego and rage. I imagine when his losing campaign ends he will quickly return to his old day job, destroying the Democratic Party!

by Anonymousreply 38November 11, 2019 7:31 AM

I just took a closer look at the photo from the article. If you zoom in you can nicely follow the pattern of the hair plugs.

by Anonymousreply 39November 11, 2019 7:39 AM

R37 I guess you are under a rock back in 2016 when there was an actual media blackout on Bernie Sanders back then too.. When Bernie was filling arenas and had tens of thousands of people at his rallies while Trump and Hillary were struggling to fill venues but the media coverage was centered only on Trump and Hillary.

Flash forward to 2019 and here we go again with the MSM blackout.. But as we know younger people don't get their news from traditional media outlets and they once again just like in 2016 are supporting Bernie in big numbers in 2019. The surge in polling for Bernie is being ignored by MSM again.. But you don't hear the truth that polls show that Biden and Warren are actually slipping while Bernie is surging if you only pay attention to mainstream media.

CNN got caught red-handed in manipulating their own polls at the beginning of the month which showed Bernie Sanders in 1st place in New Hampshire at first then flipped it to Warren at 1st place with Bernie at 2nd.

NYT also got caught red-handed in manipulating their own polls at the beginning of the month too which showed Bernie Sanders in 2st place in Iowa behind Warren yet the editorial commentary claimed that Buttigieg was in 2nd place behind Warren.

It goes on and on with one incident after another...

[quote][R37] I guess you are under a rock back in 2016 when there was an actual media blackout on Bernie Sanders back then too..

"Media Blackout"!? You are delusional! I watched the endless, slavish Bernie Sanders coverage the entire election! You remember, the election where Bernie was never vetted even after hacking Hillary's campaign/DNC proprietary database (before the Russians did!), and was treated as a serious candidate even after the NY Daily News interview exposed him as having zero actual legislative plans for his platform other than "We're gonna have a REVOLUTION!" as the entirety of his feeble thought process!

Yeah, a real "news blackout"!

by Anonymousreply 43November 12, 2019 3:51 AM

If Biden withdrew, I wonder if the Repugs could still harp on Hunter Biden's Ukraine connections? Nobody would care anymore.

In a perfect world somebody smart like Warren would win but in reality she is not going to win over states like Ohio, Wisconsin, Michigan like Biden can.

by Anonymousreply 48November 13, 2019 10:23 AM

Biden is the candidate Dump wants to run against. He’s the only one he has pretended to feel threatened by, the only one he bothered to dig up dirt on, the only one he knows he can beat.

Again and I really shouldn’t have to keep saying it: Women Will Not Vote For Handsy Creep Uncle Condescending Misogynist Biden. He cannot win without that 51% of the population and he sure as shit shouldn’t win given his history with the credit card companies, bankruptcy, segregation, etc. He is not a leader who would lead us anywhere we want to go. And he’s too fucking old, on top of everything else. So good luck winning without any female voters on anyone under 40.

by Anonymousreply 49November 13, 2019 11:30 AM

Trump and the GOP knows Dems are dumb enough to nominate Biden.

by Anonymousreply 50November 13, 2019 5:24 PM

Frank "fatso" Bruni wrote the same kind of op-ed in the NYT. I thought he was being a jerk, but based on some of Biden's debate performances ("turn on the record player") I'm not sure now. Biden will only quit the race if he runs out of money, and that won't happen.

by Anonymousreply 51November 13, 2019 6:08 PM

All these has-beens and also-rans won't win as their moment has passed... Biden, Sanders, Bloomberg -- even Warren I wanted running in 2016 and who should be put in charge of taxes and corporate affairs if she doesn't win.

by Anonymousreply 52November 13, 2019 6:23 PM

r49: If we're going off of age and creep factor, then 78 year old recent heart attack survivor and believer that 'women fantasize about being raped', Bernie Sanders, needs to drop out of the race.

Also, Joe is one of the Democratic candidates running that Trump doesn't want to run against. Not only did Trump intimate that he's worried about Biden's candidacy, he only attacks the candidates that are legitimate threats to him (e.g., Clinton, Warren, Biden) and aren't pawns to help him in some way (e.g., Sanders, Tulsi).
