Warren has won a Grammy Award, an Emmy Award, a Golden Globe Award, three consecutive Billboard Music Awards for Songwriter of the Year, and has been nominated for ten Academy Awards. She has been inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Best Diane Warren song (Female)

I like how in these kinds of polls on DL I always pick the one with the most votes. It reinforces that there is a correct answer and that there are a lot of interlopers selecting wrong answers.

Toni Braxton currently leads with 25% of the votes,.

I love Trisha Yearwood’s version of How Do I Live.

This should have been released in 1989. One of Cyndi's best:

I've always loved her song "I'll Be" written for Reba, but it isn't on the list.

What's fascinating to me is that a lot of these songs were written within a couple years, from 1988-1990. Many of them have become standards.
What was she doing to inspire this creativity? It doesn't seem like she has written big hits for 20 years or so. Why not?
I'd like to read an honest memoir from her, but she seems to lead a private life.

This is a lesson is how to lose with dignity, Glenn.

So many shitty, shitty songs. I voted for Taylor Dayne but that may have been just because I like TD.
Unbreak My Heart is terrible. Absolute garbage song sung well by Ms. Braxton.

Joe Cocker - What Are You Doing With A Fool Like Me?
I always sing this song when I falls in love with a pig, which is quite often. And this shall be my wedding song!

Oooppssss... Miss the damn word "FEMALE"
This song I always sing when the pig cast me aside like used tampon.
Exposé : I'll Never Get Over You Getting Over Me

[quote] Unbreak My Heart is terrible.
I can't agree with this.
It was inescapable in 1996: adult contemporary, black radio, dance clubs.
See R5 and below.

Toni Braxton slayed this. Perfect vocal. She sounds like Anita Baker leavened with bits of Shirley Bassey.

Toni Braxton is a true contralto- the recorded song is gorgeous and so sexy. Unbreak My Heart is a fucking great title too. If I Could Turn Back Time is a damn good pop/rock song too. Perfect for Cher.
Of course Diane Warren's favorite singer is Whitney Houston. She wrote Can I Have This Dance Forever and I Didn't Know My Own Strength for the wonderful, heartbreaking, beautiful Whitney Houston. Her music will live on forever.

Unbreak My Heart sounds like a funeral dirge. It’s so lifeless as it just thuds along, going nowhere, seemingly endless. At least Toni got paid, tho.

Someone here has never been laid. ^^^ Hint, it's R22! Yeah, it's lifeless - with a half billion views. Great song with a spectacular vocal by Braxton. That's what missing a man feels like.

Best, IMO: "Unbreak My Heart" by Toni Braxton
Worst, IMO: "I Get Weak" by Belinda Carlisle.
IMO, Belinda Carlisle has weak vocal skills (tinny-sounding). I did like the Go-Gos, though.
Toni Braxton does not have the widest vocal range. But the song, the lyrics, and TB's voice (sultry, soulful) make it the best song.

Our darling Celine -brunette Celine, still a bit phonetic here, sang the ass off this Diane Warren song!! Underrated Dion is kind of hard to find, ha. She wouldn't be marketed this way for long.

The recent Stand Up For Something should have won her an Oscar.

"Only Love Can Hurt Like This" by Paloma Faith is great. Was #1 in Austrlia, but didn't do much elsewhere.

[quote] I actually love this song. Gaga killed it.
Standing on stage and screaming about rape for 5 minutes isn't good pop music.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | November 13, 2019 5:52 AM |
Fair enough R33. But I wouldn't call that song a pop song. So, er, moot point? It's a message song. Something I happen to like. Cool if you don't.

Always appreciated this underrated effort from potato actress Elaine Paige. Much prefer it to Babs'n'Di's versions.
