I was just by Barclays and there are THOUSANDS walking the streets Protesting against Cops! People of every color, gender, shape etc. Its BEAUTIFUL!!!

So PROUD OF YOU ALL FOR FIGHTING BACK!!!!!

THE JOKER RISES.

HEY HEY, HO HO, NYPDS GOT TO GO!!!

by Anonymousreply 273November 23, 2019 5:52 PM

It’s wonderful to see unity against Police Brutality. I live right by here and I was reading comments on a live feed of it and some white racists are up in arms about the Protest and screaming “MAGA2020” and making racist comments.

Here is something for racists in Brooklyn, GET OUT. WE ARENT TAKING YOUR SHIT ANY LONGER. And MAGA people, there are almost triple the amount of Dems to Repugs in NYC. Why are you here? Go where you belong.

by Anonymousreply 1November 1, 2019 11:45 PM

by Anonymousreply 2November 1, 2019 11:50 PM

by Anonymousreply 8November 2, 2019 12:11 AM

r7 enough with the fucking excuses. Im sick of it.

Its one thing if a cop is being attacked and shoots, its another to shoot someone for jumping a turnstile.

by Anonymousreply 9November 2, 2019 12:13 AM

why couldn't he just pay the fare like everyone else?

by Anonymousreply 10November 2, 2019 12:13 AM

Can we accept there are good cops and bad cops - just like there are good (fill in your particular demographic or profession) and bad (fill in your particular demographic or profession) and that the press revels in demonizing the bad cops making it seem like all of the cops in all of the towns in all of the states are bad?

by Anonymousreply 11November 2, 2019 12:17 AM

OP will scream the loudest for the cops to show up when he's the victim of some crime.

by Anonymousreply 12November 2, 2019 12:21 AM

r10 not everyone has money. And he was a teen I believe. Maybe he has no money.

You are white, you wont get this, but there are people out there, mostly blacks and Hispanics, starving and they have no money and some of their parents work 3 to 4 jobs to be able to pay rent and bills and the little food they have etc.

But again, I do not expect you to know this because you are an ignorant white man that refuses to learn or grow and educate yourself.

I am fortunate to be a white person that does know better, as I am a social worker, and have seen and heard it all.

by Anonymousreply 13November 2, 2019 12:23 AM

R13 AH, the "stupid white man with privilege" attack, Original!

by Anonymousreply 14November 2, 2019 12:26 AM

R13, it costs money to ride the subway. If you don't like that rule, agitate to change it. Don't blame cops for enforcing it.

And I don't believe most turnstile-jumpers genuinely lack the cost of the fare. They'd just rather spend it on something else. The chances that they're genuinely "starving" are minuscule.

by Anonymousreply 15November 2, 2019 12:27 AM

Just saw on one of the entertainment news shows tonight a piece on turnstile jumping. They were filming people coming thru - people of all walks of life - some legitimately tried to swipe their card and it didn't take - others just cheating. But all walks of life doing it.

by Anonymousreply 16November 2, 2019 12:31 AM

So you are saying someone jumping a turnstile should be KILLED??????? You are defending this?

r14 It is not stupid. You are, and uneducated, and lack any knowledge or culture to be a good human. You are proof that the human can leave flyover states but the flyover state always stays within them... Go where you belong.

by Anonymousreply 17November 2, 2019 12:31 AM

I remember about two years ago there was this young, White teen guy in the F train station on Bergen, and I was buying my metro card and I saw him looking in his bookbag for something and then he went to jump the turnstile. I told him hold up because there are cops a few feet away and I can swipe him in, but a cop heard and came over and told me no worry and let the teen on for free and told him to get home safe. It was around 8 pm. The cop, a white man, looked at me and nodded, as a “good job” or something. I always remember this when I see black kids get in trouble for jumping the turnstile, because I saw how a young white male was treated vs. them.

I even remember how they look, I think about that night every time I see a black or brown young man not be let on by the cops.

My friend, a Middle Eastern 20 YO NYU student recently jumped the turnstile and he was given a ticket for it. THIS IS WHAT IS SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN. He said he jumped over, and seconds later felt a tap on his shoulder and it was an undercover cop that ticketed him. He was pissed because his friends always get away with it but the one time he did it boom, a ticket.

But no one was shot.

by Anonymousreply 18November 2, 2019 12:44 AM

[quote]But again, I do not expect you to know this because you are an ignorant white man that refuses to learn or grow and educate yourself.

Actually, you probably will anyway.

by Anonymousreply 19November 2, 2019 12:52 AM

I could care less about grammar when someone is defending killing someone for not paying $2.75

by Anonymousreply 20November 2, 2019 12:54 AM

With all the social services available here even to non-citizens, hardly anyone is "starving." You are so full of shit.

by Anonymousreply 21November 2, 2019 12:56 AM

It appears you celebrate a lack of respect for essential foundations of civility. There's no reason for anybody to tolerate that. We have enough problems with scum killing gay people on the streets of New York.

You think it's different? The only difference is in degrees. The corrosive effect in undermining basic civil society does lead to police killings. The police aren't the problem, the criminals are. The same ones who push people off the platforms, and made it so unspeakable there are few public restrooms anymore.

Don't put your sympathy with the devil.

by Anonymousreply 22November 2, 2019 12:57 AM

Lots of easy blocks in this thread.

If you value a subway fare over a human life, there’s something very wrong with you.

by Anonymousreply 23November 2, 2019 12:58 AM

Did someone just say hardly anyone is starving?

Sigh. I give up on humanity. I was always pro humans but they see the issue, with White men, specifically.

by Anonymousreply 24November 2, 2019 12:58 AM

WTF is wrong with white dudes? You truly feel $2.75 is more important than a human life?

Karma is REAL.

by Anonymousreply 25November 2, 2019 1:01 AM

Why would anyone want to be a cop today? Who would want to put up with absolute imbeciles like the OP?

by Anonymousreply 26November 2, 2019 1:17 AM

I am astonished at all the people on here defending the rule breakers actions. There seems to be an underlying current of approval for someone breaking the rules because he "didnt have the fare" Like he deserves to not pay like 99.99% of everybody else because he just couldnt afford it.What kind of bullshit thinking is that ?!? If you cant afford the fare, then guess what, your ass can WALK . No onbe owes you a ride cause your ass is broke. That being said,of course the cop overreacted but ask yourself WHY. Why are police all over the country reacting this way towards young black men ? Of course that couldnt be because .......

by Anonymousreply 27November 2, 2019 1:27 AM

There’s some hysterical escalation in this thread.

R4 has a policeman ‘aiming a gun’ at turnstile-jumpers while R17 asks that turnstile-jumpers be KILLED and R20 advocates that turnstile-jumpers be KILLED.

R30, you're a hypocrite. You're the racist around here who wants people taken "care of." You mean killed? Maimed? How enlightened.

by Anonymousreply 35November 2, 2019 1:45 AM

R35 There's a difference between cautioning someone and shooting someone.

You repeatedly promote supporting a company that uses its profits to murder gays for being gay, you don't get to come on this thread and act like a hero. "No one should be killed over $2.75" right, well no one should be killed for being gay, just because you like to eat shit chicken in a sandwich, you homophobe.

Wouldn’t these protests be more beneficial in that hellhole Texas where they have a serious problem with cops killing people for no reason?

by Anonymousreply 49November 2, 2019 2:46 AM

R27, I agree! And because I agree that it not OK for people to break rules, especially very simple ones, that are stated clearly and easily comprehend, I ALSO agree that the same exact template applies to the President of The United States and expectations for following rules under constitutional norms and framework, are a must.

Do you agree with me? I am LOGICALLY deducing you do agree with me, since the argument you countered with those on this thread whom you are at odds with, is one that CLEARLY states that rules should be followed by EVERYONE, NO EXCEPTIONS

Also, I am not assuming that you voted for Donald Trump, or that if you did vote for him, that you currently continue to support him as POTUS, being that it is beyond obvious that he broke the law.

I just wanted to present Trump and the teenager as similar examples, because rule breaking is rule breaking, no matter what rule is broken, and breaking the law, henceforth, a is rose is a rose, by any other name.

“Like” if you agree. 👇🏼

by Anonymousreply 50November 2, 2019 2:57 AM

I’ll side with the cops 95% of the time. Most people that get killed were up to shifty shit. If you behave yourself, you likely won’t encounter the police.

by Anonymousreply 51November 2, 2019 3:04 AM

I was so happy that this protest was so successful. My comrade, Ash, who is a great journalist who covers a lot of these street protests, was there in the crowd getting footage and tweeting. It was organized by a number of local NYC activist groups including No New Jails, Why Accountability and NYC Shut it Down. This feels like the start of what happened in Santiago. Hopefully, it leads to some major changes in our city.

by Anonymousreply 52November 2, 2019 3:08 AM

Oops! Correction:

I just wanted to present Trump and the teenager as similar examples, because rule breaking is rule breaking, no matter what rule is broken, and breaking the law, is still breaking the law, comparatively, as is a rose. Because a rose, is a rose, and by any other name, is still a rose.

by Anonymousreply 56November 2, 2019 3:17 AM

R56, and their staunchest of supporters and apologists are also idiotic, craven control freaks, which is what I attempted to highlight @R50.

The reality of this is, that most people who have their heads firmly embedded within the arses of trigger happy cops who use excessive force, are usually the same people who voted for and support DJT.

For many of these people, it’s OK to kill black kids & adults for infractions of the law, yet they cannot grasp that it’s not OK to support a president who breaks rules, panders in lies, illegal activity, & corruption, systematically.

If there were good cops, they'd be arresting the bad ones. Fuck the police.

by Anonymousreply 61November 2, 2019 3:45 AM

[quote]What exactly is the complaint against the police?

Not just today but a few days ago several cops beat the holy hell and tazed a black kid for jumping the turn style. There was video. It was brutal.

There have been rows of police standing in front of the turn styles. There have been police hiding and watching. They've also just this week taken a shit ton of money and installed cameras above each individual turnstyle.

You might say, okay, well -- that's illegal. Pay your fare! No one is arguing that this shouldn't be the case.

But keep in mind:

The police have been specifically targeting areas where the passengers are predominantly black to monitor fare jumping.

The people who are skipping out on fare have been brutally beaten over 2.75 cents rather than fined or arrested.

The service sucks but they're trying to hike the fare again while wasting money on having these cops & installing cameras when at these stations (people have been posting videos) the card vending systems are usually out of service / don't work as intended. Also everyone knows about the terrible train service.

It's illegal to use your card to swipe someone else through the turnstyle and they've recently been targeting people who are trying to get people who can't afford it.

So the fare is too expensive for many, the MTA is mismanaging funds,

by Anonymousreply 62November 2, 2019 4:07 AM

The protesters were breaking laws, acting like thugs. I contrast that to the civil rights protesters of the 60s, who marched with purpose and dignity and NO VIOLENCE. That was one of the main things Martin Luther King Jr. stressed to people: NO VIOLENCE. I think he'd be disgusted at people who "protest" by screaming obscenities and committing acts of vandalism. I doubt the brain dead assholes screaming about punching cops even know who Martin Luther King Jr. is. What a destestible bunch of cretins.

by Anonymousreply 63November 2, 2019 4:15 AM

R63 First of all, the protestors tonight were not "violent." You people are so shielded that you don't even know what real violence is. When the streets of Downtown Brooklyn are paved with the blood of police officers, then we can talk about violence. Tagging graffiti and jumping a turnstile is not violence. Also, I'd like to remind you that Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated. So much for his commitment to non-violence. Look where it landed him. Most people who worked as civil rights organizers at that time acknowledged that the state would never give into the demands of the people non-violently. His killing proved it. That day, April 4th, 1968, was the turning point. The protestors tonight have the right idea. Power never gives in without a demand. Hope they keep showing out from now on.

by Anonymousreply 64November 2, 2019 4:25 AM

Lots of posters on this thread need to take their meds and chill out before they have coronary events or strokes.

by Anonymousreply 65November 2, 2019 4:27 AM

"The protestors tonight have the right idea. Power never gives in without a demand. Hope they keep showing out from now on."

You are incredibly stupid. You think violence is the answer. It's not. You are pathetic.

by Anonymousreply 66November 2, 2019 4:33 AM

by Anonymousreply 67November 2, 2019 4:37 AM

I just always feel like a good chunk of these sorts of protesters are disingenuous. Protesting, screaming, and holding signs is easy. A lot of these people just want to look like they care; protesting makes them feel good about themselves. Real change requires hard work and most of them aren’t willing to go that far.

by Anonymousreply 68November 2, 2019 4:46 AM

by Anonymousreply 76November 2, 2019 5:49 AM

The OP was clearly being sarcastic, but also I don’t get why people are bitching. This protest won’t amount to shit. These things never do, they’re fashionable and make good posts for social media so that people can prove how #woke they are, and they fill a few headlines, but ultimately they get scrapped in favor of the next thing. We’re a new society, we’ve got the attention span of a goldfish now. People freaking out about how stupid insignificant protests are either the end of the world or a revolution for change should look back on the Women’s March in 2016. Protests no longer mean the same things they used to, nor do they have the staying power they used to. They’re nothing more than filler to put on your Instagram and Snapchat stories.

by Anonymousreply 77November 2, 2019 6:25 AM

The OP says "People of every color and gender" are protesting.

What can that mean?

by Anonymousreply 78November 2, 2019 6:59 AM

by Anonymousreply 79November 2, 2019 8:01 AM

Troll post designed to stir up shit. You can tell by the abnormal number of wit and wisdoms. Russians are so fucking stupid.

by Anonymousreply 80November 2, 2019 8:05 AM

Today its one kid jumping the turnstile. He gets away with it, then its three, then its ten, then it snowballs. Policeman should have tazed the little shit ( instead of pointing a gun) if he ran. I've jumped the turnstile before and got caught when my token didn't work. The difference is I didn't run! I got caught , I apologized , I explained and I got cited. No guns were drawn because I did what the police told me. End of Story.

by Anonymousreply 81November 2, 2019 10:58 AM

No one was killed because of fare breaking. One bad cop aimed a gun at a kid. That's not acceptable but the vast majority of subway cops are decent and needed. Also a cop slugged a kid in a melay in Brooklyn. People are saying he slugged a 15 year old fare beater. In that case it had nothing to do about fare beating. Groups of kids fighting outside the subway moved inside. Cops called. Kids started throwing punches at cops, they retaliate. It will get sorted out but many of these protesters are uninformed.

by Anonymousreply 82November 2, 2019 11:30 AM

Cops have been historically shitty to brown people.

Don’t give me the “There are good cops and bad cops” shit. No cop should be shooting unarmed black people or pulling a gun on someone who skipped the turnstile.

Unless these acts are protested, they will keep happening.

by Anonymousreply 83November 2, 2019 11:46 AM

[Quote] the vast majority of subway cops are decent and needed

You know this how?

DeBlasio just increased the number of cops in the subways dramatically without any evidence there’s a massive crime problem. This will just lead to more arrests and shooting for petty stuff

by Anonymousreply 84November 2, 2019 11:48 AM

The Brooklyn hipsters keep saying they want NYC to be more “edgy” like it was in the 80s and early 90s. I think it’s about time they got their wish.

by Anonymousreply 85November 2, 2019 11:50 AM

Because of the proliferation of guns in our society cops are scared.

by Anonymousreply 86November 2, 2019 11:58 AM

Some of you are perfect examples of white male privilege and the fact that you can leave flyoverstan but can’t take the flyoverstan out of the white boy.

Why do you live in cities like NYC, LA etc. when you clearly are Pro-Trump? Wouldn’t you want to be in a city where your people are? And don’t claim you aren’t pro Trump, because everything you say sounds just like him and his supporters. Defending the cops over $2.75.

by Anonymousreply 87November 2, 2019 12:18 PM

The funniest part of the white men on here claiming "follow the rules and you won't have a cop pointing a gun at you" is that I can assure you most of them do not follow the rules at all times on a day to day basis.

Whether it be rules at work, or rules while driving, or just the rules of human civility and decency, they do not follow them, but they for sure expect a black teen to "follow the rules" or they deserve to be beaten or shot.

If it was one of their family members getting beaten over $2.75 I bet you they would be up in arms.... Hypocrites.

by Anonymousreply 88November 2, 2019 12:45 PM

In what world was this protest violent? Some of you need to be introduced to true violence if marching and chanting is "violence" to you.

by Anonymousreply 89November 2, 2019 12:58 PM

Pay the fucking fare ! problem solved. Im so sick of people thinking that the rules dont apply to them. It cost to ride the subway,if you dont have the fare, you fucking walk. Its not rocket science. Nobody owes you a goddamn thing in this world. I was in a good mood to I came back and read this shit. You can tell who the "woke" and "black" people are. Using their logic I guess if you dont have food you should be able to walk out of a grocery store with a buggy full. Or fly to Hawaii . Or drive a new car. Because hey,you want it but you aint got no money but why shouldnt you have it anyway ? Dangerous thinking that will eventually get a lot of LOSERS capped.

by Anonymousreply 91November 2, 2019 1:51 PM

The police were there to restore order in regards to a 'disturbance' involving Black youth and were being attacked. So, lets get THAT straight. The youth that ran the turnstile was apart of the 'disturbance' ensemble. Lets also get THAT straight. He was NOT coming home from shopping at Macys with xmas presents for his lil sister and mother. He was running from his involvement and didn't want to be captured. Does this paint a more 'woke' picture ? I hope so. A Bastardized narrative these days are what ALOT of these protest stem from. White people know full well that this scenario would never happen to them. The police are afraid of the political power of white people.

by Anonymousreply 95November 2, 2019 2:21 PM

Living in Harlem and seeing cops everywhere, all the time, I realize that much of the crime rate, as determined by official stats, is based on cop making arrests solely because they’re in Harlem.

The same stuff happens on the UWS (where I lived previously) but cops either aren’t there to witness it or let people off with a warning

by Anonymousreply 96November 2, 2019 2:23 PM

White people would be told not to do it again and let on. Black people get guns held at them.

The fact some of the white trash from flyoverstan (that move to NYC where there are many other types) defend this shows who they really are. They love exposing themselves. They are the same people that beat and kill gays.

by Anonymousreply 97November 2, 2019 2:29 PM

I can assure you if this were white teens none of this would have happened, and if it did, the flyoverstan trash on here that pose as NYers (transplants) would be up in arms over this. If it were a gay white man, they would be screaming "Just let him on the train! Its only $2.75 for fucks sake!"

But because it is black teens they deserve to be shot.

by Anonymousreply 98November 2, 2019 2:33 PM

I've seen A LOT of fare jumpers and none of the ones I've seen are poor.

The fare jumpers I've seen are those who just can't be bothered: parents who let their children crawl under the turnstile and teenagers who think it's cool to avoid paying the fare.

But I do think that the police target neighborhoods unfairly. I'd like to see some police stationed at my neighborhood's stop. They'd be able to catch several jumpers from people who can well afford to pay their fare.

by Anonymousreply 99November 2, 2019 2:37 PM

People !!!! This was not about any stupid ass $2.75!!!... He wasn't being aimed at for jumping the turnstile ! DROP IT! NOW!! He was fleeing the scene of the fight and had probably done something worth fleeing about !!….. DO NOT SAY, He was going to be shot for $2.75 AGGGAIN! You sound like you need to be evaluated for a 'spectrum' diagnosis and apply for disability!

by Anonymousreply 100November 2, 2019 2:43 PM

r99 they won't care or do anything to them though, if they do catch them.

I live by Bergen and have seen many people jump the turnstile, teens and adults, white, Hispanic and black, and I see parents that have their kids go under.

I am born and raised here and when I was a kid my mom would tell me to go under all the time, and she could afford it. Its been happening for decades upon decades, but now they wanna get aggressive with JUST black people about it and target areas where there are a lot of black people? Notice how they aren't installing cameras in all train stations over the turnstiles, only in black areas. But the white people on here will play stupid and act like there is no racial bias. "Just follow the rules!" while they break rules left and right.

Crack a History book.

by Anonymousreply 101November 2, 2019 2:44 PM

Running away over $2.75 is not a murderable offense.

And some of you are mixing up two different incidents and jointing them as one.

This is not about the fight last Saturday.... this was a different black teen. And the fight last week got people upset because there was a black teen just walking by and the cop shoved him when he was not even with that group and then beat him up.

by Anonymousreply 102November 2, 2019 2:47 PM

I was under the impression the turnstile happened during the fight the police were called out for. Let me read it again.

by Anonymousreply 103November 2, 2019 2:50 PM

Can you imagine the sizemeat in this crowd? It must be legendary.

The concept of cops is inherently a bad idea, but seeing the way they’re viewed and treated, can you really blame them? It’s like how the blacks kids who are aggressive towards white people are just expressing discontent at how they’re viewed and treated by society. Hate just begats more hate. But of course, we live in a culture of siding now, so there’s no such thing as being able to see it from the other person’s shoes. It’s our inability to see both sides of the situation as a society anymore that’s going to lead us straight into the fires of the apocalypse.

I love seeing protests like this. When you look at the videos of them you get to laugh at how 99% of the crowd protesting gentrification and racism and police brutality are white people, most of whom probably live in gentrified areas and wouldn’t dream of sharing a house with people like those kids on the subway. Irony and hypocrisy combining to make a circus that the rest of America can laugh at.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 113November 2, 2019 3:57 PM

R113 Chile can’t really be compared to this. Chile’s in a real situation, the government has cut off food and water supplies to the lower and middle class of Chile. People are starving and dehydrating to death in their homes. The ones that go out to fight against the tyranny are immediately shot in the street. This is a bunch of spoiled New Yorkers bitching about how they hate cops. Don’t compare brave people fighting for their right to food and water and life to these idiots taking 5 minutes out of their day between getting Instagrammable vegan tahini shakes and going to their job as a GIF-finder at BuzzFeed to hold up a sign and chant, save and warm under their layers of Urban Outfitters and Anthropology clothing.

by Anonymousreply 114November 2, 2019 4:01 PM

What’s happening in Chile has nothing to do with this bullshit. Typical of Americans to think that the word revolves around them and that they lay the groundwork for the rest of the world’s protest. Pathetic narcissists.

by Anonymousreply 115November 2, 2019 4:03 PM

NYers are not protesting for nothing. We are protesting Police Brutality!!!

by Anonymousreply 116November 2, 2019 4:08 PM

I'm with R101. I live in Southern Brooklyn - very white area - and turnstile jumping happens all the time. Yet there are no cameras and no one ever gets arrested for it. The cops don't even bother patrolling the station.

by Anonymousreply 117November 2, 2019 4:10 PM

I don't doubt there are good cops, but if they were in the majority, their silence wouldn't be deafening with the bad apples. Whistleblowers wouldn't be the ones who get punished or called "rats" for reporting the bad ones.

If the good are (supposedly) the majority, then it would be far easier to weed out the bad, but they don't, do they? That woman who got shot in her home when the cop was creeping around her house and didn't even ID himself...what did the dept do? Immediately try to paint her as the aggressor. She was in her own house trying to protect her nephew after hearing noise around her house. The dept -rather than accept they had an asshole in their dept- tried to vilify her in death. That's clearly not a one-off, that's policy.

by Anonymousreply 118November 2, 2019 4:12 PM

Good cops are not the majority. It’s hard to find a good cop.

I went to see the play “Lobby Hero” when Chris Evans and Michael Cera were in it And Evans is a bad cop and when his partner, the female, speaks up he pretty much has her fired and the other cops and uppers have his back.

Rings true to reality.

Why are so many white gay men racist, money grubbing reactionaries?

by Anonymousreply 121November 2, 2019 4:25 PM

Most of time, when people have a gun pointed at them by the police, they stop

by Anonymousreply 122November 2, 2019 4:26 PM

R121 that is what annoys me more than anything. Gay men are always going on and on about equality for gays and speaking against discrimination for gays etc. but they lose that same energy when it comes to black or Hispanic people. Mostly black people.

They stand against white people that condemn gays but will stand with those same people when they condemn blacks.

by Anonymousreply 123November 2, 2019 4:27 PM

R122 THE POINT IS THERE SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN A GUN PERIOD.

by Anonymousreply 124November 2, 2019 4:28 PM

R123, I think it's the fact that so many WGM are comfortable with social changes that benefit them, so who cares about anyone else. Plus the racism, misogyny, etc that white men carry around as a result of their training. As another WGM, I've been seeing and hearing about it for decades. They are no better than straight reactionaries.

Worse, in fact.

by Anonymousreply 125November 2, 2019 4:34 PM

r105's picture is ridiculous. People with their faces covered? If you're going to have the balls to protest then do it openly. Are you afraid your employer will find out and fire you? Running around protests in masks shows just how cowardly you are.

by Anonymousreply 126November 2, 2019 4:36 PM

I'll never forget the Swedish cops on vacation who broke up the fight between two, black homeless men on the subway. R125 I am a WGM myself. I know how it is. This is why I get so angry and don’t pay mind to most other gay men.

They are up in arms if someone just says “I don’t agree with homosexuality”. No one is hurt etc. but just saying that sets them off.

But a Black person being shot over $2.75? That’s fine. The Black person deserved it.

They’re HYPOCRITES

by Anonymousreply 130November 2, 2019 4:46 PM

It seems like the obvious solution here is following the rules: don't steal, don't speed excessively, don't skip the fare. Is it really that hard?

by Anonymousreply 131November 2, 2019 4:52 PM

R123 I wonder if the levels of violent crime committed by black people (proportional to their % of the population) makes them feel less sympathetic to that minority. And if they feel less sorry for brown people for the same reason, plus their feelings on what brown people here illegally cost in aid etc. Not saying I agree, just wondering if white gay men see themselves as law abiding, but these other minorities as law breaking.

by Anonymousreply 132November 2, 2019 4:54 PM

I have been speaking up and out about the hypocrisy of white gay men for a long time now, and they always try to silence me. Especially on here, they hate to be called out about the reality of what they are.

They sit around bitching about how black people dont support them while throwing out racial slurs etc. and refusing to realize, "hey, maybe my racism toward them is why they do not show support to me", Because I know many black people that dont care if you are gay, they care how you act. Also, there are many homophobes in all races and cultures.

BUT DONT TELL THEM THAT. Someone on here once told me straight out it is "IMPOSSIBLE" for a white person to be homophobic. They are genetically incapable of being homophobic. Could have fooled me.

by Anonymousreply 133November 2, 2019 4:56 PM

Fact is that NYPD are particularly nasty and no, they don't deal with worse than what I've seen just watching LIve PD. White trash on fucking meth going 80 on residential streets with no DL/registration are treated nicer. No wonder those assholes always vote GOP, it's not like they're actually treated like shit when they are shit. They're not subjected to actual laws.

I got stopped once because I had the nerve of wanting to go home after work/shopping (it was about 7p) and growing impatient with the car in front of me at a stop sign which wasn't moving and there were no cars going by and it just stood there, so I went to the left of it with my signal (which people do all of the time if the car in front of you has no signal, indicating it's going straight). I went left -not speeding because I don't do that- and the car followed me (it was an undercover cop car). They stopped me and asked why I was in a hurry, asked for my DL/registration and the other cop had his flashlight checking my car. Good luck with that: I had a bag of groceries and an umbrella.

They're just particularly arrogant in NYC.

by Anonymousreply 134November 2, 2019 4:57 PM

r132 but not all gay men are law abiding. Most gay men I know here in NYC are constantly doing illegal shit, especially when it comes to drugs...

And are we discussing gay men in general or WGM specifically? Because gay and white do not go hand in hand. One is race, the other sexuality. Anyone can be gay.

Also, those "crime rates" in the black community are not real. They are made up. How is it that 13% of the population commits over 50% of the crimes? Sit and do that math and you will see it is all bullshit by our racist Government to cause more fear. Also, many of the black men in prison are there for crimes they did not commit or for stupid small crimes that they got arrested for and should have been let go free shortly after, but our racist system locks a black man up for 5 years just for selling cigarettes illegally while letting a white man that rapes a girl walk free.

by Anonymousreply 135November 2, 2019 5:02 PM

[quote]It seems like the obvious solution here is following the rules: don't steal, don't speed excessively, don't skip the fare. Is it really that hard?

Asshole, watch LivePD and see how white people are treated for doing far worse things than jumping a turnstile. I sit there shocked at what they get away with in bumfuck and no gun drawn on them.

JUMPING A TURNSTILE DOESN'T REQUIRE A GUN. And no, that doesn't mean one should get away with it, it means you give them a ticket or a warning. You don't threaten to SHOOT THEM.

by Anonymousreply 136November 2, 2019 5:03 PM

R135 I did say white gay men. But thanks for the lecture on race and sexually being different things. Interested to see what you’re statement about false crime figures comes from. I also mentioned violent crime, perhaps whitegay men see themselves as law abiding with respect to that?

by Anonymousreply 137November 2, 2019 5:15 PM

How about that white kid in Virginia who murdered three people, including a baby, and was running around naked while some old "fit-fat" cop was struggling to keep up with him? The video of that should have been set to Benny Hill music, that's how ridiculous it was.

But of course, on [bold]here[/bold], all the thirsters cared about was where to find the uncensored video, and how big the kid's dick was.

Not to mention the breathless devotees to that other triple murderer, Chris Watts.

by Anonymousreply 138November 2, 2019 5:15 PM

[R135] Your an idiot....and find a better gay echelon to acquaint yourself, If most of the gay men you know do illicit drugs. Problem is your so stupid that's the only crowd that'll have ya!

by Anonymousreply 139November 2, 2019 5:15 PM

There's no question people of color -- men in particular -- are profiled, arrested and assaulted at alarming rates. This certainly leads to a cycle of continued prejudice.

Having said that, cops often only have hs education but are expected to behave like social workers or sociologists. Even Obama has asserted the racism but also mentions the position cops are placed in. We expect them to be in the worst neighborhood, enter into dangerous conditions. See horrible acts of violence and the worst days of people's lives and somehow show restraint and normalcy.

No question police brutality against minorities is a huge problem. But I don't know what is a pragmatic solution to finding people capable of protecting victims of violence and not being affected.

Obviously, racism, jobs, economic, education, political solutions are needed but that takes a frustrating and discouraging amount of time.

I honestly don't know how to resolve the whole policing problem. It's systemic either way.

by Anonymousreply 140November 2, 2019 5:17 PM

r139 go out to any gay bar or gay club in NYC, you will see it sweetie,...

r137 do that math, sweetie.

by Anonymousreply 141November 2, 2019 5:18 PM

R141 Math doesn’t preclude 13% of the population committing 50% of crime. It’s possible. 1% of a population could commit 100% of the crime if they remained at large and the balance of the community was law abiding. That’s why I asked for your sources.

by Anonymousreply 142November 2, 2019 5:21 PM

[quote]cops often only have hs education but are expected to behave like social workers or sociologists.

These statements are very true. The people that I knew who became police were people who had no other options. They weren't brilliant in business, they weren't musically gifted, they didn't excel in math or science. They're just smart enough to be one step above a security guard.

by Anonymousreply 150November 2, 2019 5:50 PM

R142 now I am getting annoyed with you. Because Earlier you tried to sound like you were being understanding, and now you want to sound like a typical white man putting blame on the black man. It is easy to see how black men are villainized. All you have to do is open a newspaper or a history book. It truly is not that hard, when you see black men coming out of prison 20 years later that were committed for a crime they didn’t commit in the first place. Or how we see black men getting YEARS in prison for minuscule shit. Or how we see black men getting beaten and/or killed for bullshit without being armed with a weapon.... but keep playing stupid b

by Anonymousreply 151November 2, 2019 5:50 PM

[R147] In the first place,….No!, I will NOT be sucked in. Not gonna entertain you. Sorry! Not worth it.

by Anonymousreply 152November 2, 2019 5:59 PM

R140 one solution is to require a couple of years of college with a specific curriculum. Classes like Intro to Sociology, Criminology, Civics, Culture and Mental Health, Intro to Psychology, Public Health, Race Relations, Conflict Resolution. . . you get the idea.

Two years, three classes per semester which can be done at a community college. Those wishing to be a police officer need at least a solid C average to apply and if they are accepted a full year in training before they can be a full fledged officer.

by Anonymousreply 153November 2, 2019 5:59 PM

A lot of police officers have degrees because it helps them in promotion boards. Those that have degrees get promoted quicker. It is to their professional benefit to be educated. A Policeman with degrees is way more common place than people think.

by Anonymousreply 154November 2, 2019 6:06 PM

I'm all for paying for that but the challenge R153 is recruitment.

At least here in Philadelphia, recruitment has been a problem. And that's another obstacle/delay.

Regardless, I'm all for implementing that for current officers.

by Anonymousreply 155November 2, 2019 6:07 PM

R154, that's true but don't those officers also get removed from street patrol? I thought that was one of the incentives beyond the pay raise and promotions (leading to higher pensions.)

by Anonymousreply 156November 2, 2019 6:09 PM

[quote]13% of the population committing 50% of crime.

You're such a fucking simpleton. You think "crime" is defined the same no matter the race? There are black kids in prison for weed and there are white ADULTS free for having committed that same crime or far worse.

How dumb are you that you think the justice system is blind or that cops treat crimes the same way?

That's more of an issue of how competent are the lawyers and judges?

by Anonymousreply 159November 2, 2019 6:21 PM

Wrong, R159. Cops arrest blacks for crimes they allow whites to get away with. As I said earlier, you should really watch LivePD. You'd be shocked at what they allow white people in these red states to get away with. It's actually disgusting.

I mentioned in another thread about one incident I saw and the fact that the cop was comfortable allowing it to be shown proves how disgraceful the system is and how commonplace the behavior. An incident in Tulsa: The cop KNEW he was going to a call about a minor getting assaulted by an adult. The minor was a biracial kid who was protecting his white grandmother from her her white boyfriend who had hit her. The cop upon arrival immediately put cuffs on the minor, despite then minor not having giving him reason, he then went to politely talk to the asshole boyfriend. They were just going to allow him to leave despite the grandma saying she wanted to press charges. It wasn't until they found out the boyfriend had previous warrants that they finally arrested him. In fact, when that aired, people commented on it. Imagine what they get away with when the cameras aren't on.

by Anonymousreply 160November 2, 2019 6:29 PM

r155 I also think that implementing some sort of policy like the airline pilots do (and maybe they already do) where you can only work so many hours, days, weeks in a row and then you have mandatory specified amount of time off.

Also feel that mixing in things like corporations do where maybe twice a year they attend a weekend of refresher courses and lectures that illustrate new techniques in conflict resolution, public policy etc. Lectures from officers that have received awards for their public outreach or for their non violent heroics.

At a certain point our police forces were militarized, no more protect and serve. Instead it's us against them (them being the citizens), and if what I have been reading is true a movement by white power groups to infiltrate the police. A change in approach to policing is needed.

R151 I am trying to understand. I was simply replying to the person who told me to “do the math”. I asked for the source of their information because math doesn’t it impossible, so telling me to “do the math” doesn’t bolster their claims. Yes, black people go to prison for crimes they didn’t do. I never said they didn’t. I just gave a possible reason the white gay men don’t take up for some other minorities and was haughtily told it was maths. I asked for the source of this and instead of getting that source, I just got a rant.

by Anonymousreply 165November 2, 2019 6:38 PM

The point is that cops are SUPPOSED to be professional. They're supposed to be able to deal with things differently from a civilian. They're not supposed to be Yosemite Sam. And for me, it isn't merely about white vs black. I linked to the Swedish cops on the subway and how professional they were. The US police system is corrupt. If so many were so good, then the bad ones wouldn't be protected at all.

No. It only incites more violence. More mayhem, more people getting hurt, more destruction of property.

To those who insist on "law and order" at any cost and defenders of police discrimination and brutality:

Psychological studies establish why the majority of law enforcement officers choose their profession; the reason is not to protect public safety.

At the time of President Kennedy's assassination in 1963, at least 95% of the Dallas Police Department (and the Dallas Deputy District Attorney) were affiliated with the John Birch Society or the K.K.K. If you don't know what those extremist, hate organizations are, learn now!

If you think times have changed, President Reagan appointed to his administration a California politician who was a "loud and proud" member of the John Birch Society, which was co-founded by the father of the multibillionaire Koch brothers. If you live in the USA and own an gasoline-powered automobile or buy Georgia-Pacific products, you support the Koch brothers.

The Neo-Nazi U.S. Patriot Act was renewed and upgraded in the federal government's favor. Everything Americans do via social media, cellular devices, etc., is legally monitored by federal police agencies and private companies including Microsoft, Apple and Facebook, who supply our data to government police agencies.

Wake up and realize we're living in worse than Nazi Germany and that police are not our friends. As a retired U.S. Navy officer told me, "We're still fighting the American Civil War." The USA is a racist country. Many white law enforcement officers carry on that tradition.

In my city, an on-duty police officer pursued and arrested a speeding, off-duty officer. I don't know the case's outcome. I was acquainted with a gay, white officer who got himself appointed a school resource officer because he likes boys.

The USA needs less police on the streets, not more. We need a new, thriving economy with Americans at work with pride instead of Indians making pharmaceuticals and Chinese slave labor making everything else. Then crime, poverty and drug abuse in America will be minimized.

Angry, entitled people who support Gestapo-type police need bitter pills to swallow, the sticks removed from your asses, and your sick minds studied and treated by reputable psychiatrists.

And you know this how? You sound like a bigot with a grudge against cops.

by Anonymousreply 177November 2, 2019 8:46 PM

"The USA needs less police on the streets, not more. "

Yes, having fewer police will be SO beneficial to communities. Why, that would certainly make crime statistics plummet to nothingness! You are, without a doubt, stupid as shit.

by Anonymousreply 178November 2, 2019 8:50 PM

R177 you sound like the bigot...

Though I don't believe people who don't pay mostly can't pay, I sure as fuck don't think a cop should draw a gun on a turnstyle jumper. Cops are fucking racist goons and always have been.

by Anonymousreply 180November 2, 2019 9:02 PM

Does anyone on this site DENY they are guilty of supplying multiple responses on a single topic? [R179] Buy a dictionary or repeat 6th grade remedial English, there is nothing even resembling the definition of 'bigotry' in [R177] remark. Asking for a fact source, IS NOT BIGOTRY!. I am not [R177] as the dull minded [R167] ( through her stealthy skills) can attest.

Police brutality seems like a problem only because the media focusing on a handful of cases in a country of 325 million makes it seem like an epidemic.

by Anonymousreply 187November 2, 2019 9:22 PM

[R183] =[R184]=[R185] = Same Person or at very least all display same low IQ. I'm done with dignifying your sophomoric thread derailing. Stick to topic at hand, avoid saying stupid things, posting unhinged opinions as facts, and arguing like a Russian troll not familiar enough with our language to be posting here..

by Anonymousreply 188November 2, 2019 9:45 PM

R187, you're uninformed and/or live in a bubble. Two examples: When I've visited Texas, police have shot somebody everyday without retribution. That state's lawmakers attempted to give its state guardsmen (including reservists) police powers. Trayvon Martin was stalked and murdered by a psycho stalker who got away with the crime. I recorded/watched the trial and examined some of the evidence. If you don't know about Florida's "stand your ground" law, it basically means legal murder. Florida is competing with TX and AZ for corrupt nut country regarding police killing citizens and gun culture. Typical for someone like you to blame the media. As a Republican friend said more than a decade ago about American police, "The only thing they are missing are brown shirts."

by Anonymousreply 189November 2, 2019 9:46 PM

R189 What do you even mean “typical for someone like you?”

The examples you gave are still literally just a drop in the bucket.

Face it = this isn’t an issue and the only people who care are those with media jobs who literally get paid to write BS churnalism and make it seem like the sky is falling.

by Anonymousreply 190November 2, 2019 9:51 PM

R55 you’re right, and the public has a right to specific expectations with respect to MTA. It should be safe and reliable. It’s notoriously neither, and this is a problem with Albany, isn’t it?

If NYC were to wholly take over MTA again could it address the incompetence in management and delivery that has crept into the system because of the non stop infighting in Albany?

by Anonymousreply 191November 2, 2019 10:00 PM

R188 I’m not R185. I was commenting on the topic. It’s not my fault that people don’t read or have any understanding before they comment. Familiar with your language? What language is that? I speak English, like many people here. I’m not a Russian troll. I find people like yourself, who scream Troll at anyone who challenges their ideas and therefore, delicate mental balance, hysterical and hilarious. Go change your tampon, you’re way too uptight.

[quote]We expect them to be in the worst neighborhood, enter into dangerous conditions. See horrible acts of violence and the worst days of people's lives and somehow show restraint and normalcy.

We expect them not to shoot at a woman through her window playing games with her nephew while there on a welfare check of that woman. Or to crush an unarmed man to death for selling loose cigarettes on a corner. Or to brutally beat a small black child for swimming in swimming pool she was asked to leave as she was leaving. Or to harass people taking video of any such incidents because they're worried that the video of what they were ACTUALLY DOING will get them in trouble because they know they went too far.

[quote]No question police brutality against minorities is a huge problem. But I don't know what is a pragmatic solution to finding people capable of protecting victims of violence and not being affected.

Training.

If you're licensed to carry a gun, use that gun to take someone's life, take someone to a jail and lock them up -- then why the hell wouldn't you expect more training from someone with that kind of power?

Make it make sense.

by Anonymousreply 194November 2, 2019 10:10 PM

Me and my sister waited over 40 minutes for the Q train yesterday and it never came... we had to take an Uber.

The MTA is TERRIBLE. Worst its ever been.

by Anonymousreply 195November 2, 2019 10:11 PM

R194 A degree is mandatory for our state police force where I live. Many do a second one in their career. They rarely shoot people and most are very skilled in de-escalation of situations. Of course, they don’t have the worry that is possible/likely every person has a gun. So possibly this increases confidence in non-violent/non-lethal options.

by Anonymousreply 196November 2, 2019 10:29 PM

Too much jibber-jabber in this thread.

by Anonymousreply 197November 2, 2019 10:47 PM

[quote]Police brutality seems like a problem only because the media focusing on a handful of cases in a country of 325 million makes it seem like an epidemic.

It's funny how you have it backwards. It's because we have more cameras around that they actually can't get away with what they used to...or have you not noticed the countless overturned convictions going back decades due to exposure and the tenacity of those who believe in the law? How dumb are you that you think cops haven't got away with so many things over the years specifically because there wasn't as much media as there is now.

by Anonymousreply 200November 2, 2019 11:34 PM

As to the brooklyn police and related protests, I have no opinion.

Words of wisdom from Martin Luther King Jr.:

Nonviolence is not sterile passivity, but a powerful moral force which makes for social transformation. As you press on for justice, be sure to move with dignity and discipline, using only the weapon of love. Let no man pull you so low as to hate him. Always avoid violence. If you succumb to the temptation of using violence in your struggle, unborn generations will be the recipients of a long and desolate night of bitterness, and your chief legacy to the future will be an endless reign of meaningless chaos. (

We believe in law and order. We are not advocating violence. We want to love our enemies. If I am stopped, our work will not stop, for what we are doing is right.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. Hate multiplies hate, violence multiplies violence, and toughness multiplies toughness in a descending spiral of destruction ... The chain reaction of evil - hate begetting hate, wars producing more wars - must be broken, or we shall be plunged into the dark abyss of annihilation.

Nonviolence is a powerful and just weapon. Indeed, it is a weapon unique in history, which cuts without wounding and ennobles the man who wields it. Hate begets hate; violence begets violence; toughness begets a greater toughness. We must meet the forces of hate with the power of love.

by Anonymousreply 227November 3, 2019 4:42 AM

Incredible man. Imagine how inspiring and transformational those words would have been back then. They are still amazing today.

I've had my share of incidental civic misunderstandings which police were called to render help and situational understanding. They fucked up with EVERY incident. Needless court appearances had to be scheduled ( that went in my favor) but could have been avoided if the police had got it right at the incident .THAT BEING SAID, I've seen first hand how their judgement can lapse and you can be victimized. However, in each incident, I OBEYED what they asked of me. I didn't show my ass ( though I wanted to) because the frustration is REAL. When it comes down to it and what's best for you, civility is always the answer. Do what the fuck they tell you THEN work it out through the designated proper channels. Showing your ass and inciting confrontation is not a proper channel so just get over that idea! . Even though my run-ins left my faith in their reasoning abilities a little shattered,, I am still NOT stupid enough to conceive or insinuate their absence or lack of engagement or diminishing foot print is a reasonable or even tolerable idea. I don't like being misjudged either. But as an accomplished rational thinking human being, I understand you cannot damn the whole for the actions of the few.
