I signed on to the DC Fandome event yesterday and saw the [italic]Superman & Lois[/italic] panel. The showrunner spent the first half of it talking about changing the narrative so the characters have two teenage sons instead of one new baby because he has two sons and felt that was a dynamic that the viewing public was desperately eager to see. Seems that he wanted to do a [italic]This Is Us[/italic]-style family relationships drama reflecting his own family experience and the action-adventure heroics are more an afterthought.

Oh, and love triangles are a priority. At least three were mentioned, including one between the two teenage super-sons and Lana Lang's daughter.

This has been “breaking” for months, at what point does it move on to just being old news, every time I see it I think it’s something new?

Did anyone else watch?? It wasn't as bad as i thought it was going to be. And i'll be shocked if Jonathan doesn't turn out to be gay....or at least bi.

The first episode was great. I am usually annoyed by teens in shows, but in the first episode they were utilized well. Hoechlin's a better Clark than Superman, IMO.

I just watched it. Thought Johnathan Jr was really cute. You could totally tell that Jordan was going to be the superson though. Although they showed John as a toddler using super strength so maybe he will develop later on.

It was such a super high quality show for the CW network.

It’s called Superman and Lois. Lois and Clark was the 90’s ABC version.

I do agree about the Clark Kent persona. Tyler is great at portraying the human, relatable side of the character. He's improving on the superheroics, but he's got a long way to go to equal Cavill, or even Brandon Routh, there. He and Bitsie work really well together as a couple. As for the kids, well, I don't buy either of them as high school freshmen (particularly Jordan Elsass, who looks older than his actual 19 years) and am painfully bored by teen drama, but they weren't overly annoying in the premiere.

How is paying off the loan on a defunct farm in Kansas a strain for two prize-winning journalists who own (and can sell) a brownstone in the equivalent of New York City?

If they need money why does he not just squeeze some coal into diamonds?

Episode 1 pulled out all the tired tropes.

Lois resembles more of a bulimic wraith than a woman who birthed twins. The two son actors are annoying. Half of each episode will be their banal teen struggles, with mopey mop hiding his abilities when not nearly incinerating bullies.

Luthor's plan? Eating up Smallville's land to make a kryptonite refinery? Who cares?

Even if Clark isn't prominent enough to get snapped up immediately by a rival paper or sign a book deal, Lois is a Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative reporter with an extremely high profile. Ronan Farrow is worth something like $12 million from his journalism career; I'd assume Lois could manage something similar.

A strong second episode. I’m loving the relationship between the twins. Still no mention of the extended arrowverse. I wouldn’t mind if they kept it that way tbh.

I heard this is going to be cancelled because it bombed.

It’s already been renewed for season 2. So fuck off.

I loved seeing the black suit again. And Chrissy seems sweet. I'm not getting Sarah's appeal and i hope the talks between Clois get less cliche. Also want to know what Lana's deal is.

Still can't get over the idea that a Superman show is all about Superman's family drama. It's like something Kevin Smith once said where his vision for a Superhero movie would be the superheroes leaning against a wall (or car?) talking to each other about all kinds of stuff and then occasionally step out of frame to fight some baddies and then come back to lean against the wall again and keep talking to each other.

Even CW's Supergirl managed to give equal time to action and then family, friends, relationship drama. On Superman the action takes, at best, one third of the episode.

R254 at least they're doing something different and not another rehash of Superman's origin. The family drama separates them from the other Arrowverse shows now that Black Lightning is ending.

r255. That is true. The show feels more Stargirl (which was, I believe HBO Max) than the regular Canadian filmed CW Superhero show.

I agree. It may not all work, but I credit them for trying something different.

Makes it feel like it’s a continuation of Tom Welling’s Smallville.

Episode 3 was another great episode barring the dodgy CGI in the beginning when Superman saves the people on the bridge in China. I appreciate though that they’re making the show feel global. The brothers’ relationship continue to be the highlight for me.

Superman busting into save Lois was a fist pump moment. Loved it.

Episode 4 - the return of the Super Clap. Always a Treat. Clark can give me his clap any day tbh. Only criticism would be why on earth is it filmed so dark and poorly lit. So frustrating to watch. Give me some colour damn it.

I'm actually liking it more and more each episode. Love this version of Lois. But we still need a shirtless Tyler scene.

While were on the subject: Ben Affleck as Batman……….he’s a little heavier than the Batman of old…….he really needs to take off a few pounds for that role…his Batman ‘get-up’ looks a little stretched at the seams.

He's a beautiful man. The sons are cute but I guess I'm not supposed to notice "high school" boys though the actor Jordan Elsass is 21 or so.

R269 I don't know why they decided to make the twins 14, it's not believable. And it's a shame Jordan is anti-vax/Dump supporter. I heard he did not respond well to hearing Jon is bi in the comics.

I had no idea they are supposed to be 14. I figured junior or senior in hs.
