Aside from Eve's brief foray into TV movies, they all basically disappeared from showbiz.
Why were the Brady kids never able to become adult film stars?

They have been on tv all these years. They have obviously been adult stars.

They couldn't become adult film stars because they couldn't take a dick. Certainly not like Florence and Robert could.

They Puke too easily.

Thank you, R2. I was afraid I might be the only person to read "adult film stars" and think "porn."

In the 80s I remember hearing a rumor Christopher Knight had become a gay porn star. Oh how I wanted that one to be true.

Christopher Knight should have done gay porn. Yum!

by Anonymous | reply 11 | October 19, 2019 3:55 AM |
Christopher did well with the Family Guy and other cartoons.

It was hard in the 1970s to transition from TV to film unlike today were actors move with one to the other without any problems. There was a real stigma about 'TV stars' appearing in cinema - everyone seemed out to get them.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | October 19, 2019 4:23 AM |
I wonder why they never got more TV roles.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | October 19, 2019 4:25 AM |
I was a crack whore. Doesn't that count?
by Anonymous | reply 15 | October 19, 2019 4:25 AM |
Eve was weak.

Very few child stars transition to successful adult acting careers. The cuteness factor that makes them appealing as kids fades quickly as they age. For every actor who has successfully made the transition there are dozens who tried and failed.

R17 Tell me about it. Try as I may and as many roles as I do nobody evens notices me these days.

Child actors are almost always terrible actors who've been taught terrible 'technique', i.e. manufacturing 'emotions' and 'fed cute' line readings which can be difficult to overcome. Obviously there are exceptions, but outside of Eve Plumb, I think the rest of the Bradys were not particularly skilled (Barry seems to have some musical theater skill, but considering he solely works in 'the regions', I think that means decent singing voice and his Brady celebrity.)

Maureen was cast in a very important role in a Taylor Hackford film called The Idolmaker from 1980. She said she was not happy with her performance and soon was struggling with cocaine.
She was never able to translate her TV success into the movies, which is a shame, because she was the best actress of the bunch and had the most onscreen charisma, in my opinion

R20 Wonder if she picked up that habit from Ray Sharkey who became a major junkie and sadly passed away from AIDS in the early 1990s.

Maureen played "easy lay" Jenny in an episode of Insight in 1979.

r22 , that was painful to watch. To be fair though it's not like McCormick had much to work with. Hallmark romances and after school specials had better dialogue. Plus, that oh so super 70's script. . .

Most TV actors have a hard time finding a second sitcom after a first successful one. TV stars are in peoples homes, for years. That means that people get attached to their characters. This was even more true before the 2000s.
How many TV stars have more than one hit sitcom? Tim Allen, Bea Arthur, Betty White, Don Knotts (marginal), Johnny Galeki (but that was long after his stint in Roseanne), are the few I can think of on the top of my head.
From TV to film is even harder; Sally Fields was the first one to really do it. Will Smith, Jennifer Aniston, Kristy Alley, all did.
Its just hard to get a new role after a hit TV show. Even harder for child stars. And add on to the fact that the Brady family was corny even by 70s standards, that they were only ordinary looking, and with the expectation of Eve and maybe Barry, not the best actors, a better question would be why would they have long lasting careers?

So you're saying the kids all tried, but nobody wanted them for roles?

Adding to r24, The Brady Bunch was never much of a hit during its original run. As I recall they never got full season renewals, only half season or 13 episode orders, and never broke the Nielsen top 30. It wasn’t until the constant reruns that it really grew a following and inspired the reunions and spinoffs. By that time no one wanted to see them as anything but Bradys.

The Brady Bunch was one of the best shows of all time!
