An Old TV Question

I watch old Twilight Zones & Alfred Hitchcock Presents episodes. They often show drapes in openings between rooms. The opening from a living room into a dining area, for example, might have drapes at the sides. Sometimes the drapes are loose, sometimes they are tied back with cords.

Did anyone here ever see houses like this in the US? Did your grandparents ever use them?

To probably contain heat in the rooms. My grandparent's (both sets) had homes with doors between rooms, probably for the same purposes. But I remember those early programs and movies with the curtains.
