Gay couple gets engaged during their Meet and Greet with Brie Larson at Comic Con

Brie Larson is now forever “changed”.

Brie Larson is “changed” after witnessing a proposal during ACE Comic Con in Chicago, when two men got engaged during their meet-and-greet photo with her. The Captain Marvel star was in attendance at the fan event alongside Marvel co-stars Tessa Thompson and Chris Hemsworth, and was absolutely shocked when one of her fans proposed to his partner while meeting her.

“Y’all I was present for a proposal and I am CHANGED,” Larson wrote on Twitter alongside photos of her gobsmacked expression as the men become fiances. “Much love to the happy couple!!!!”

Larson has been a champion for diversifying the Marvel Cinematic Universe since she joined, telling Variety earlier this year that it “breaks my heart” to hear someone say they never thought they’d see a gay superhero. “I don’t understand how you could think that a certain type of person isn’t allowed to be a superhero. So to me it’s like, we gotta move faster. But I’m always wanting to move faster with this stuff.”

Meanwhile, Thompson’s Valkyrie stands as one of the first openly queer Marvel characters, an identity set to be explored in the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder. Now that the character has taken over for Thor as King of Asgard, she “needs to find her queen,” as Thompson explained at San Diego Comic Con. “So that’ll be her first order of business, she has some ideas.” And that’s not the end of queer inclusion in the MCU: a gay male superhero will join Angelina Jolie in The Eternals. After a decade of leaving queer people out, Marvel is finally catching up.
