"Turn To You" (1984) - The Go-Go's

The Go-Go's best video, and one of the best videos of the 80s.

Shot at the Greystoke Mansion in Beverly Hills, the Go-Go's as exaggerated versions of their male and female selves. All of them cock-blocking each other for Rob Lowe, with Gina ultimately coming out on top.

Wow, at first glance the band looks like real guys! Especially Belinda. Amazing.

I love all of the Gogo's songs. They were such an awesome band, and one of my favorites from the 80's.

Boy Belinda looks like a young Mickey Rooney.

I always loved "Our Lips Are Sealed."

Belinda--even with her baby fat--reminds me of Justin Bieber....am I alone in this?????

by Anonymousreply 8October 17, 2019 11:08 PM

Were the Gogo's all lesbians?

They sure look it, in the video.

by Anonymousreply 9October 17, 2019 11:14 PM

I loved this album and the video's clever, but I think Head Over Heels is a much better video.

"Talk Show" is ridiculously under-appreciated, though.

by Anonymousreply 10October 17, 2019 11:18 PM

Remember when videos were a big deal?

by Anonymousreply 11October 18, 2019 12:24 AM

Great fucking video - somehow I missed that one back in the day.

by Anonymousreply 12October 18, 2019 12:55 AM

I thought Belinda had slimmed down by that point in the Go-Go's. Her "boy" version looks like Colin Jost.

by Anonymousreply 13October 18, 2019 3:32 AM

She was at the height of her chipmunkery during Vacation

by Anonymousreply 14October 18, 2019 4:33 AM

You are least 12 kinds of stupid, r9.

1985 was the height of her chipmunk days =

Anyway, Bitchlinda has been a huge cunt for years and is responsible for so much BS in the Go-Go's that her "perky cuteness" is long gone for me.

by Anonymousreply 18October 18, 2019 3:59 PM

r18 = Jane Wiedlin

by Anonymousreply 19October 18, 2019 4:17 PM

I wonder how juicy Kathy’s book will be now that’s she’s back in with the band.

by Anonymousreply 20October 18, 2019 4:25 PM

R19 Oh honey, no. Jane has been mostly Team Belinda since their original reunion.

Although Bitchlinda has tried her manipulative Mean Girls shit with every member at one point or another.

by Anonymousreply 21October 18, 2019 4:28 PM

Some good Bitchlinda stories, please!

by Anonymousreply 22October 18, 2019 4:30 PM

They still rock even as they push into their 60s.

by Anonymousreply 23October 18, 2019 11:12 PM

R22 Kathy Valentine's lawsuit is a juicy document, confirming what many of us suspected over the years - Bitchlinda is the prime shit stirrer/source of conflict in the group.

I remain amazed that Kathy came back and rejoined the group for some of their dates, but I assume it was financial, and because they needed rights to the songs KV wrote in the Broadway show.

by Anonymousreply 24October 18, 2019 11:17 PM

It seemed like they all had big hopes for the Broadway show, and was the reason they were back together. But it should have been a jukebox show playing all of their hit recognizable songs. The storyline had nothing to do with the band, and lesser known songs were used and it closed.

R26 With all the white on the Go-Go's (not to mention the redness, Jane's metallic outfit & the crinkled background), they look like microwave popcorn in that shot.

by Anonymousreply 27October 19, 2019 12:43 PM

R-10 totally agree. ‘You Thought” and “Head over Heels” are my faves.

P.s. Met Belinda a few times in late 90s. Cold would be a compliment.

by Anonymousreply 28October 19, 2019 1:09 PM

Wow talk about a band that needs a movie

by Anonymousreply 29October 19, 2019 1:51 PM

I had a really boring job when Kathy Valentine wrote an autobiography on twitter that the band members eventually made her delete and kicked her out of the band. The annoying part was that you can't jump to a certain date on twitter, and had to keep scrolling back to the beginning every time.

She didn't reference anything that wasn't public knowledge, and already covered in biographies. She wrote about her own drug use mostly, and that she attended Glendale Community College after she quit and the band broke up. She did write that the bands nickname for Melissa Gilbert was "Half-Gram."

Belinda revealed on Twitter that she was dealing with the loss of her younger brother here in October.

Does anyone know what he died from?

by Anonymousreply 31October 22, 2019 5:50 AM

[quote] Belinda looks like a young Mickey Rooney.

In that video she looks more like younger Wayne Newton. Jane of course like Beatles era Paul McCartney.

Talk Show was their best album by far. So sad the magic had faded at that point.

by Anonymousreply 34June 30, 2021 1:59 AM

Turn to You had the sound they were looking for since We Got the Beat.

by Anonymousreply 35June 30, 2021 2:07 AM

I always knew the Go-Go's were trans!

by Anonymousreply 36June 30, 2021 2:13 AM

Very fun. I have tickets to tour the Greystone Manson in the fall, excited for it. The date has been bumped for a year and a half because Covid.

by Anonymousreply 37June 30, 2021 2:23 AM

R28 I met Belinda about eight years ago. Oddly enough, the word I would use to describe her is "ladylike."
