Barack Obama Endorses Justin Trudeau
In a tweet
"I was proud to work with Justin Trudeau as President. He's a hard-working, effective leader who takes on big issues like climate change. The world needs his progressive leadership now, and I hope our neighbors to the north support him for another term."

So is this a "hail-Mary" that the internal polls for the Liberals are so bad, that this is a desperation move?

The other guy is an anti-abortion worm, so yeah, I can see the logic behind this endorsement.

Bad look for Joe. Obama endorses the Canadian prime minister but won’t extend the same courtesy to his own Vice President.

I think everyone knows that, Trudeau is just too toxic to survive another election., This is the end of the line for him, and I just pray he gets a minority and can exit on a graceful note on his terms.

He annoys the fuck out of me, but I had no idea it was this bad across the country. You just don't hear it when people are talking about him. I mean, eye rolls, yes, but not lose the government anger or contempt.

What did he do that was so bad? Brown face aside, did people really not know?
His party must have really fucked things up. While traveling I kept meeting 20 something’s from Alberta, none of them were fond of the PM. I just assumed they were the equivalent of American southerners, perhaps their feelings were the average across the country.

In January 2019 the Liberals were still ten points ahead of the Conservatives and Trudeau popularity was still sky high in Canada.,
Then SNC scandal hit, and then the floodgates of this Trudeau hate just opened up. One of the political pundits described it as a daily chipping away at the Trudeau brand by Conservatives for three straight years. Until the last chip (SNC) and then a massive flood just opened up. Does that make sense?

After thinking about this, I don't see this move as a hail-Mary pass - Because the Conservatives are in worse shape in Atlantic Canada, Quebec and Ontario - and the Liberal have the upper hand as they have a substantial lead in those three regions.
What I think this move is to telegraph to NDP/Bloc voters not to split the vote.

It's a bad move because the outcome is far from certain and it hands the pundits and columnists and talk radio and us the ability to chew over why.
It isn't usual. It seems desperate. Telegraphing not to split the vote is a very charitable view.

well R16 then I guess you were one of those DLers who said that Trudeau couldn't lose in 2019 - are you now taking that back and admitting you were wrong?

He endorsed Macron a few weeks before the French election two years ago. This seems to be a little bit more of a desperation move on the part of Trudeau though, because Macron was leading by a wide margin.

Obama should really just fuck off. I used to like him, but Americans shouldn't interfere in the political outcome of other countries in the same way that that they don't want outside influences affecting their elections (Canadian here). I know that my guy isn't going to win, but I don't need it made worse by having Obama screw everything up.

R47/R49, if the NDP retains its existing seat count (eg. around 40 seats) and ends up having the balance of power in a Minority Government, that's a win of sorts for the NDP compared to where they started.

Too early? Malarkey! The fact of the matter is that Joe is going broke right now, he needs all the help he can get. Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders are beating him like a drum in the money race. But the fact of the matter is that Barack Obama will never endorse Joe Biden.

I don't know if Margaret has been on the campaign trail or not... I haven't followed it... but I think there's a fair amount of national affection for her. She wouldn't have done any harm unless she got talking policy. Through her filter whatever she'd make Marianne Williamson sound like common sense.
She's completely bonkers, but in a harmless, well intended, endearing sort of a way.

[bold]Justin Trudeau Headed to Second Term as Canada’s Prime Minister[/bold]
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada was headed to a second term on Monday after an often ugly campaign that became a referendum on his character and on his authenticity as an earnest standard-bearer for liberalism.
Mr. Trudeau’s Liberal Party will not retain its majority in Canada’s House of Commons, according to projections by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, but it will keep enough seats to allow Mr. Trudeau to form a government, with support from two left-leaning parties.
The victory was a personal vindication for Mr. Trudeau, who battled accusations that he had bullied his former attorney general, an Indigenous woman, and faced damaging revelations late in the race that he had dressed in blackface and brownface as a young man.
