'Clipping Coupons In The Stock Market'

[quote]"Why in God's should someone who's clipping coupons in the stock market... pay a lower tax rate than someone who is a school teacher and a firefighter."

People seemed confused by that line, but Biden apparently meant physical bond coupons? Which I'm hearing aren't around anymore?

Coupon bonds are rare, but still around. However, it's mostly legacy issued stuff, not newly issued.

The majority of bonds are electronic although the nomenclature of "coupon" or "coupon rate" is still used when discussing bonds.

If you watch the Jodie Foster movie Panic Room with a young Kristen Stewart from 2002, they're fighting over bearer bonds (physical bonds) that are not registered and whose ownership is not recorded. These might have been coupon bonds though I can't really remember and don't care enough to find a plot summary.
