[quote]RIGHT NOW The audience begins to file into the debate hall.
Worst part of these debates, by far. Watch them lose their minds over zingers tonight.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | October 15, 2019 10:14 PM |
The New York Times actually put out an article today on how to prepare a debate zinger. 😩

Is Pete going shirtless?

Otterbein University lol how ridiculous

r6 Why? Is it a shithole?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | October 15, 2019 10:20 PM |
Fuck this shit. You can have a meaningful debate with 12 candidates on the stage. It’s little more than a year until the presidential election and the DNC is still fucking around with this candidate circus.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | October 15, 2019 10:22 PM |
“Otterbein University”? Lol. This is a real-life SNL skit.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | October 15, 2019 10:24 PM |
Article about the challenges of coordinating the commodes when you're wrangling twelve candidates.
[quote]“It’s a very long debate,” said Alex Conant, a political strategist who prepared Senator Marco Rubio for his primary debates in 2016. “You have to think about things like: ‘When do you go to the bathroom, and how many men can fit into the men’s room at once?’”

You know Kamala “I was that little girl” Harris has been rehearsing her repertoire of totally spontaneous zingers and mic drop moments all day.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | October 15, 2019 10:27 PM |
Oh there’s DNC chairman Tom Perez looking like the cryptkeeper.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | October 15, 2019 10:29 PM |
Will moderators have Geritol on hand for some of the ahem...older candidates?
by Anonymous | reply 13 | October 15, 2019 10:33 PM |
So will they be falling all over each other calling for decriminalizing illegal border crossings, free health care for all immigrants, reparations, trans bathroom rights and the rest of their loser playlist tonight?
by Anonymous | reply 14 | October 15, 2019 10:33 PM |
Will Kamala ‘justice for jussie!’ Harris wear a (gasp) COLOR for the first time ever?
by Anonymous | reply 15 | October 15, 2019 10:36 PM |
r14 There's no way we'll have the same Medicare conversation for the fourth time in a row. Syria will definitely be on the agenda. As for the rest, who knows.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | October 15, 2019 10:37 PM |
r15 Amy tried purple for the LGBTQ town hall the other day and it made her look like a plum. Kamala has a similar body shape, so I can see why she loves black attire so much, at least for the debates.

by Anonymous | reply 19 | October 15, 2019 10:47 PM |
Analyst on CNN just said he expects Bernie will want to show the voters tonight that he's fine after his heart attack. So expect even more shouting, I guess.

Why do they have Rick Santorum? That's the question.
Out of all the commentators they could have hired they pick someone with a notorious homophobic background?

by Anonymous | reply 27 | October 15, 2019 10:57 PM |
Bernie’s history and Biden after tonight (if he turns in the kind of performance I think he will) will self-destruct before the primaries. That leaves Warren as the likely candidate. I don’t see any of the rest stepping up.

And, no Petey, the country will not be more divided after Trump is gone. The deplorables will crawl back into the holes and we'll move the fuck on toward a non-Trump future. A bright new day, indeed.

by Anonymous | reply 219 | October 16, 2019 12:28 AM |
If the government offers decent healthcare, how many companies will continue to offer healthcare? Companies will be paying higher taxes to pay for the government healthcare, they won't pay the higher taxes for non employees to get government healthcare and pay high costs for their own employees healthcare also.
This will be like Obama saying if you like your doctor you can keep your doctor, which was true, nothing in the law forced people to change doctors, just circumstances force people to change doctors when doctors wouldn't accept Obamacare plans.

Marianne is astral projecting.

WOW! Beto hasn't spoke yet.
by Anonymous | reply 314 | October 16, 2019 12:44 AM |
This debate feels unfocused.
by Anonymous | reply 315 | October 16, 2019 12:44 AM |
Shouldn't there be an algorithm that tells them who to ask the question to based on how much time they've had to speak? Would seem easy enough to program
by Anonymous | reply 316 | October 16, 2019 12:44 AM |
Marianne sings the body electric.
With Enya on backup.

R270 I’m a Boomer and “beat him like a drum” sounds like Angry Old Man talk to me. Just like everything Biden says sounds like Old Man Speak.

Biden cannot pick a straight white male of any age for Veep. Actually, he can’t pick a male. Neither can Bernie or any other male who may get it.
Warren and Harris can pick males.

[quote]I agree with Mayor Pete and Klobuchar; Elizabeth has a good idea but it doesn't seem credible that she could get it through congress.
Valid point.
In the 1930's-40's when FDR was President, the Dems were able to pass major social safety programs under the New Deal because they had huge majorities in Congress. At one point the Dems managed to get up to around 70 seats in the Senate, which would be impossible today for either party because of the polarization.
So it's harder today for a Democratic President to pass the social initiatives that FDR & LBJ did unless they can win large majorities in both the House & Senate, and that's much harder to do today than it was in the 1930's-1960's.

by Anonymous | reply 342 | October 16, 2019 12:49 AM |
What is the difference between this debate and the first set? It’s the same shit over and over and over again. Nobody can really land a punch because the sorts of attacks that will be coming at the Dem nominee in a general election are not the kind of things that a fellow Democrat can use.
by Anonymous | reply 343 | October 16, 2019 12:49 AM |

Are they going to have "Socialism" costumes this Halloween for all those who want that word to be the boogeyman that will keep people voting against their own best interest. When LBJ proposed Medicare the screams of Socialism could be heard to the moon, the same when FDR first spoke of Social Security. Only now you people who are screaming Socialism against Bernie or Liz are beating a dead horse. People have are beginning to see the truth. People are seeing what a world without "Socialism" is doing to them and what it's costing them, down to their very lives and the lives of their children and parents.

Exactly, R465. We aren't eejit toerags.
by Anonymous | reply 473 | October 16, 2019 1:07 AM |
r466 Hard disagree. She's lost completely.
by Anonymous | reply 474 | October 16, 2019 1:07 AM |
Biden is a disaster.
Warren is doing alright, but could be better.
Amy is really going for the kill.
by Anonymous | reply 475 | October 16, 2019 1:08 AM |
OTTERBEIN!
by Anonymous | reply 476 | October 16, 2019 1:08 AM |
I don’t see Warren relinquishing her status as frontrunner. She’s got the torch and she’s going all the way to the finish line.
by Anonymous | reply 477 | October 16, 2019 1:08 AM |
Is like to see Harris slay Tulsi and then Warren to come back and set Amy K straight.
by Anonymous | reply 478 | October 16, 2019 1:08 AM |
Tulsi Gabbard is knocking it out if the park. She is the only one that can best Trump.
by Anonymous | reply 479 | October 16, 2019 1:08 AM |
Running Ron Reagan Jr. atheist commercials during the Democratic debate. That goes over well with evangelicals-ugh. Frocking CNN.

Amy has balls. And she would TOWER over Trumpov in a debate.
by Anonymous | reply 483 | October 16, 2019 1:09 AM |
Steyer actually made sense when he spoke.
I think Biden and Harris are taking the biggest hits tonight.
Pete and Amy looking much better
Yang makes great points but I doubt the bulk of the audience knows he is right
As for Warren, it's tough to say-- I think she's getting slammed but not sure if her supporters think she is losing

I will gladly vote for whoever the final Democratic candidate is but I fear that Warren will be too easy for repubs and moderates to vilify in the media. She represents a major threat to the 1%'s control over everything and they DO NOT want her to win
by Anonymous | reply 491 | October 16, 2019 1:10 AM |
Tulsi is gonna get fucked over now with the Syria questions.
by Anonymous | reply 492 | October 16, 2019 1:10 AM |
No matter how many times you all keep saying that Biden is a disaster is not going to make it so. This is part of his schtick now. Warren is the absolute loser tonight, by far. She's raising taxes.
by Anonymous | reply 493 | October 16, 2019 1:10 AM |
here comes Tulsi not attacking Assad. Is she his concubine or something?

It's that she is not admitting that she will have to raise taxes

The reason why Warren won't explain health care like Bernie is because she knows Bernie is wrong. It came out in 2016 that his plan would end up costing people more.
Carry on.

It sucks to have so many there that don't have a prayer of the nomination taking time away from those we need to hear from. It should be Biden, Warren, Sanders, Mayor Pete and maybe Beto but I'm not even sure if he should be included. I actually like Yang but he's not going anywhere and we need to hear from those that might for longer than 12 fucking minutes each and maybe not even that. I just turned it off. It really is a circus this way. We laughed when the stage was a clown car of Republicans in 2016 and this looks just as ridiculous. I am glad to see Bernie looking and sounding so well. I'm for Warren but I like Bernie and always have and always will but he won't be president. Still if by some chance he's the nominee, he will get my vote. Any Democrat will.

R307 no because Elizabeth Warren wants to be a man. Elizabeth Warren thinks that power means wearing pants. She looks like a crazy masculine woman who doesn’t understand the power of femininity. I am absolutely sure that if she were to wear a dress she would wear it with a sensible smart heel or possibly open toe wedgies with panty hoes.
