Mayor Pete on Elizabeth Warren’s small donor strategy: “We're not going to beat Trump with pocket change”
Mayor Pete on his gun fight with Beto: “I get it. He needs to pick a fight in order to stay relevant"

He's right on Warren - it's crazy that she said she won't do big-dollar fundraisers if she's the nominee. We need the big guns to take on Trump, period. And she'll kill the downballot races that way as well. She had zero issues with big money just last year, but now it's of the devil?
As for Beto, he's goading him so the moderators will be forced to turn this into an issue tomorrow --> more airtime for him. Brilliant strategy. You can see on Twitter today that both Booker and Kamala want to get in on the action as well...
by Anonymous | reply 1 | October 14, 2019 8:49 PM |
He's right on both counts so can the cuntiness, OP.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | October 14, 2019 8:53 PM |
He's not wrong. And I'd like to add that I'm so tired of Cory Booker using every new breaking news item/controversy as a way to get some face time on every TV show. He just latches on to the next big crisis. I have no idea what he stands for except to be desperate for attention.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | October 14, 2019 8:56 PM |
He's young and scary smart. He's transmuting all the energy he's saving from not having sex with that Chasten thing. Barry did the same.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | October 14, 2019 8:57 PM |
So will the real Pete show up tomorrow? I think that pocket change argument is stupid. The candidate avoiding big dollar fund raisers is good PR. Back in the day Presidential candidates always had surrogates on hand to ask for money and votes. I'd rather Warren or whomever spend that time at a rally rather then behind some close door event for the 1%. This is what true populism looks like. The DNC should host the big dollar fundraisers for their nominee and invite a rotating cast of politicians to headline. Either our party is going to embrace the poor and middle class, which means candidates focusing their energy on them, or we continue forward with the frustrating corporation first, center left policies.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | October 14, 2019 9:05 PM |
Hillary Clinton's 2016 press secretary Brian Fallon called him MEAN on Twitter. That's what happens when a lil' homosexual boy speaks up, I guess.
r4 That made me laugh.

Good PR doesn't win elections; cold hard cash poured into digital and TV ads wins elections.

Yes, I'm sure rich donors will be falling over themselves to open their purses at the event where Warren isn't present, and for a candidate who is promising to tax the hell out of them. Especially when they already saw her at similar fundraisers in Martha's Vineyard and Silicon Valley last year, back when she had no problem talking to the 1% face to face.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | October 14, 2019 9:11 PM |
Again r7, why can't the DNC or her VP candidate raise that extra cash and allow the candidate to remain above it all? Hillary had tons of money, yet still lost. It't going to come down to the messaging and luck. Dems are furious with Trump, money will pour in. It may not match Trump's haul, but it will come. Now is the time for the DNC to put on their big boy pants and start petitioning the traditional high dollar donors.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | October 14, 2019 9:11 PM |
r8 please note Warren only made this rule for the Primary. She has repeatedly said that she would be open to high dollar donor in the General. Warren's fundraising has been consistent and she beat Biden and Pete this quarter so the money is out there.

The Hill is panicking...
[bold]Progressives fume at Buttigieg, warn him not to attack Warren at debate[/bold]
“It’s sad to see the potential self destruction of @PeteButtigieg, a rising star,” tweeted Adam Green, a cofounder of the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, which backs Warren. “Tuesday will be a key trajectory moment. Does he attack the next President of The United States or take the high road and make positive waves by adding his unique voice to progressive issues of the day?”
We really are a sorry bunch if one of the candidates is untouchable from all criticism. We've apparently learned absolutely nothing from the 2016 coronation.

His husband is going on a European tour to court donors who are living over seas. Not great optics considering what’s going on and the only Americans living overseas are wealthy ones. Pete is a total corporate shill who only cares about money. That pocket change comment pissed a lot of people off. Not too smart of a campaign strategy to insult the supporters of other candidates. When Beto drops out Pete is gonna need a lot of his supporters and he isn’t gonna get them.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | October 14, 2019 10:03 PM |
r19 I don't give a shit how rich or poor they are; they're Americans who have the right to vote. Period.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | October 14, 2019 10:06 PM |
Well some of us think it’s grotesque that big money plays such a big role in politics and would like to change that. Those donors in the hamptons want something in exchange for their money. That’s why you have Biden promising rooms full of millionaires that “nothing will fundamentally change”. I’ll never trust a candidate that buddies up with Wall Street and Silicon Valley.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | October 14, 2019 10:10 PM |
Pete is a total corporate shill who only cares about money.
Name one corporation that has donated to him. Or any other Dem candidate, for that matter. And yes, of course he cares about the money - he didn't have $10 million of rich people money conveniently lying around from 2018 to neatly roll into his presidential campaign like Warren and Bernie.
And speaking of tens, I recall Warren being worth $10 million, while Pete is six figures in student debt. But please tell me some more about who's the corporate shill here.

That's nice, but you play with the tools you've got. When we get the White House and the Senate, we'll change the composition of the Supreme Court and do away with Citizens United. Until then, principle stands will only result in defeats.

Clinton spent $500 million more than trump did in 2016. How’d that go? Money isn’t everything despite what donors in the Hamptons want you to believe.

Is he really, R59? Because these statements don't strike one as being particularly bright.
Denouncing small donors (and the majority of the U.S. public) could have a boomerang effect on his own campaign. Plus, it just isn't a great look to bash other candidates. Haven't we seen enough of that with Trump? Notably we have corrupt money flooding the government and a "billionaire" president with no experience grifting his way through the White House. Big money in the US government isn't a good look at the moment (ask Putin). Also, as others have pointed out, Clinton had the big donors and look how she fared.
And the Beto thing? Again, don't think it savvy or smart.
Peter may be a mayor, but the havoc and destruction writ large in the wake of the Trump administration seems hugely significant. And the 2020 election could be one of the most important for democracy in the USA.
Genuinely sense that leadership to straighten the ship, so to speak, (as its going to be very tough) needs to come from someone who has experienced the US governmental system on a larger playing field than South Bend.
He's too green at the moment.
And his injudicious statements in regards to other candidates (and the small "coin change" public) do nothing to change that perception.

by Anonymous | reply 107 | October 15, 2019 4:05 PM |
Wow. He doesn't even have to talk it up. If a friendship with Zuckerberg exits, at all, at any level, then Buttigieg is dead to me.

Exists. Grrr.

R105,
I voted for Hilary.

I’m no SJW, and I’m not a fan of Pete. He’s comes off as having an air of superiority — as if he knows everything better than anyone else. So, of course the 37-year-old Mayor of South Bend, Indiana should be President of the United States. 🙄
Yes, of course, if he’s the nominee, I’ll support . . . Blah, blah, lab.
Why did Warren hire this hateful trans if she is so smart?
Warren is an imbecile for having hired that black whore Transbeast. That thing is notoriously anti-Asian, homophobic, and anti-Latino.
Beto and Pete would have never allowed such a thing.

The little homosexual boy is at it again this morning
I voted for Hilary.
Whatever. Saying she is the equivalent of Trump tells me all I need to know about you.
by Anonymous | reply 114 | October 15, 2019 4:32 PM |
Are we really going down this road again? Someone doesn't like Elizabeth Warren and they automatically hate women?
Do the people calling Pete "little homosexual" hate all gay men?
by Anonymous | reply 115 | October 15, 2019 4:35 PM |
OP is a troll
by Anonymous | reply 116 | October 15, 2019 4:37 PM |
Calling someone running for president "overachieving" like that's a negative, is like saying, "stay in your place, little lady" I am not stupid.
by Anonymous | reply 117 | October 15, 2019 4:39 PM |
^^Pete checks all those boxes herself without having to hire anyone.
by Anonymous | reply 118 | October 15, 2019 5:24 PM |
Is Kevin Robillard related to Ellen Robillard?
Would I care about that if I were not gay?

Private jets and being nasty. He’s learning from his biggest LA donors.

He’s completely wrong. So are you.
by Anonymous | reply 121 | October 15, 2019 5:43 PM |
Why go to Fox News for homophobia when it’s all nicely packaged right here.
by Anonymous | reply 122 | October 15, 2019 5:53 PM |
PACs are where the big money makes the difference. Warren sitting there eating chicken or drinking wine with high dollar plate fund raisers is not where the money will come from.
by Anonymous | reply 123 | October 15, 2019 6:04 PM |
The problem is that many democrats are trying to treat this like a normal election. It is not. We are going to need as much money as possible to unseat an incumbent president who already has a huge war chest. I don't care how unpopular he is, it is difficult to get rid of an incumbent. Democrats need to be armed and ready and that takes cash. You have to pay for staff, you have to pay rent for state offices, you have to pay for vehicles to get our voters to the polls, you have to pay for rallies, you have to pay for advertising, and after all that you still have to give money to down ballot races. None of that is that cheap.
by Anonymous | reply 124 | October 15, 2019 6:16 PM |
Exactly, R122; why vote for Republicans when even gay Democrats like Mayor Pete defend Chik Fil A and their funding of conversion therapy? Why vote for a Republican war hawk when Soldier Pete is here to wave the flag and “support the troops” and “spread democracy” through the barrel of a gun? Why voted for a conservative Christian Republican when Pious Pete is talking about his Personal Relationship With Jesus ChristTM?
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Pete is just a Republican from 20 years ago pretending to be even remotely liberal. He’s the darling of Wall Street billionaires and wealthy white gay men. That’s his base.
by Anonymous | reply 125 | October 15, 2019 6:16 PM |
R117,
I did not say that running for president was overachieving. I said that lying about your race to get positions for which you’re not qualified is overachieving. You’re an idiot if you didn’t understand my post.
by Anonymous | reply 126 | October 15, 2019 6:30 PM |
R122, how is it homophobic to take exception to his dismissive comments?
by Anonymous | reply 127 | October 15, 2019 6:36 PM |
Yeah right. I know what you meant. And the fact that you want to say she is equivalent to Trump is more proof of why you really don't like her.
by Anonymous | reply 128 | October 15, 2019 6:38 PM |
From Twitter:
•Pete is the Fyre Festival candidate.
•Pete is a blue republican wrapped in rainbow colors.
•Pete is the Elizabeth Holmes of Democrats
Seeing blowback from his statements, courting rich donors, Chasten flying abroad for money, his friendship with Zuckerburg, and his wooden, robotic appearances in public. (People are posting his snarky comments from earlier, for example, where he states he has to "ingratiate" himself to voters by "standing on things".....an arrow strike to Beto from earlier in the year.)
Will be interesting to see him tonight at the debate.

Wow, so many people trying to take Pete down with a bunch of bullshit. First he's not the right kind of gay. Then he's too young and experienced. Now he's too moderate. When will the crazies
by Anonymous | reply 131 | October 15, 2019 7:05 PM |
I like them all except Tulsi, but his A-gayness is getting on my nerves.

Off-topic, but I just read R87’s link about Warren’s “LGBTQ” campaign team rep, “Ashlee” Preston. Wow, how do psychos like that get campaign jobs? That guy is a total whack-job sociopath:
“Elizabeth Warren is being heavily criticized for failing to vet a high-profile campaign surrogate with a history of making homophobic, racist, misogynistic and xenophobic comments on social media. Activist “Ashlee Marie” Preston was featured in a Warren campaign video released October 10.
Then it’s revealed her new LGBTQ surrogate, “Ashlee” Preston, has a horrifically bigoted past ... You have to ask, what is going on in Warren’s campaign?”
A Tweet from [Preston] reads: “Just cussed that Asian bitch clean the fuck out…u mess up my order & THEN blame me?? #englisismyfirstlanguage bitch. Never ordern again.”
[Another] Tweet from [Preston] reads: “Asian hoes act like they wont get karate chopped in they muthafukn throat. What is this hoe staring at. Mind ya beeswax. #Bitch.”
[Another] Tweet ... reads: “I LUV gay men but THIS county clerk at window G is a mahfukkan Faggot wit it…hes bald but rokn jewels, acrylic nails,&silk scarves #andshit.”
Holy moly, why was this lunatic allowed to be featured in Warren’s campaign? Lol, he pretty much publicly insulted almost every group out there (Asians, Latinos, pregnant females, gays). What a circus.
by Anonymous | reply 133 | October 15, 2019 7:15 PM |
Thanks for that, R133. Didn't know about it. She's a surrogate trans rep. They need to fire her.
by Anonymous | reply 134 | October 15, 2019 7:18 PM |
All I want for Christmas is for Pete to turn Beto ! Yum!
by Anonymous | reply 135 | October 15, 2019 7:27 PM |
Honestly, I think these comments are quite tame. It's a presidential election, not a playgroup. (Mind you, even as I type this, I'm realising that Trump has made those two things fairly indistinguishable.)
by Anonymous | reply 136 | October 15, 2019 7:30 PM |
Fire *him, R134. That sociopath is a self-loathing gay guy, dressed up in T drag, who calls other gay men “faggots”. All he does is hurt Warren’s campaign.
by Anonymous | reply 137 | October 15, 2019 7:40 PM |
Tulsi is "closeted" GOP TRASH in every way. Other than her, I am on board with every other candidate.
by Anonymous | reply 138 | October 15, 2019 11:22 PM |
Ashlee Marie blamed her bad tweets on her "drug addiction." Good lord!
