Bernie - $25.3 million

Pete - $19.1 million

Please add them here as they come in, so we won't have a new thread for every announcement.
Bernie Sanders announces massive $25.3 million third quarter fundraising haul

So annoying. But good for the progressive agenda, I guess?

by Anonymousreply 1October 1, 2019 11:21 AM

Some perspective:
Obama's numbers in '07 dropped 41% between Q2 & Q3, Hillary's in '07 dropped 18% and in '15 dropped 38% between Q2 & Q3. So expect DROPS of between 20% and 40% for even top tier candidates.

Bernie is the exception to this rule, of course. He also increased his Q3 haul by 70% in 2015. I think Warren might pull off something similar. I'm also betting Kamala and Yang will surprise us.

Last time around, Bernie had to return money because people were donating beyond the legal limit.

by Anonymousreply 5October 1, 2019 8:36 PM

r5 Last time around being in 2015/16, or earlier this year?

by Anonymousreply 6October 2, 2019 12:04 AM

datalounge readers are not interested in this kind of info. They either vote republican or Biden/clinton type candidate who is pro business. They mistakenly think the DJIA performs better with a republican in the oval office. Their one overriding concern is themselves and their pocketbooks.

by Anonymousreply 7October 2, 2019 12:31 AM

Who the fuck is stupid enough to donate to Yang?

by Anonymousreply 8October 2, 2019 12:35 AM

r8 Independents, libertarians, techies, aspies... I'm sure there are some Asian Americans in there as well.

by Anonymousreply 9October 2, 2019 12:41 AM

Warren and Biden must have fallen short of their goals if they wait this long to release the info? Does Corey's $6 million keep him in the race? If Pete wasn't into dick, he'd be neck and neck with Warren. He better hope that he pulls off a better performance in the October debate.

by Anonymousreply 10October 2, 2019 1:16 AM

Did Sue Sarandon donate the $6.2 million so that old man Bernie would be ahead of Pete for once?

by Anonymousreply 11October 2, 2019 1:20 AM

r10 They probably want a full day of media coverage just for themselves. Warren in particular might shock us with her numbers.

by Anonymousreply 12October 2, 2019 1:22 AM

All the money in the world isn't going to bring it home for Bernie.

by Anonymousreply 13October 2, 2019 1:24 AM

Unless Pete or Bernie starts challenging Warren, they're going nowhere. Why are they afraid of her?

by Anonymousreply 14October 2, 2019 2:01 AM

I wish Pete would start doing something to stand out more.

by Anonymousreply 15October 2, 2019 2:01 AM
If Pete wasn't into dick, he'd be neck and neck with Warren

Pete's gayness is part of the reason he got attention in the first place. I actually think he would be doing worst if he was just another generic straight white guy.

The guy is a mayor of some random city, his performance is pretty extraordinary.

by Anonymousreply 16October 2, 2019 2:10 AM

r14 Have you not seen Twitter aflame because Pete has now called Warren out a couple of times? He has said something about her twice in two weeks now. He's definitely been taking her on, just not in dramatic ways like some of the other candidates.

by Anonymousreply 17October 2, 2019 2:36 AM

Good for Pete, I don't think you can count him out yet.

So what we know so far.

Sanders: $25.3 million

Buttigieg: $19.1 million

Harris: $11.6 million

Yang: $10 million

Booker: $6 million

Bennet: $2.1 million

by Anonymousreply 21October 2, 2019 1:39 PM

Bennet got 2.1 million? How?!

by Anonymousreply 22October 2, 2019 1:44 PM

The United States makes me sick.

by Anonymousreply 23October 2, 2019 2:34 PM

Biden's campaign manager is saying they won't announce until they are required to on October 15.

by Anonymousreply 24October 3, 2019 5:19 AM

Yang is on fire!

by Anonymousreply 25October 3, 2019 5:37 AM

r24 Oof, that is not a good sign at all.

by Anonymousreply 26October 3, 2019 10:21 AM

Btw, the fourth debate takes place on October 15th and the FEC deadline is at midnight that day, so... they're making damn sure this gets drowned out completely. Not a good sign at all.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 29October 3, 2019 10:40 PM

Warren - $24.6 million

by Anonymousreply 30October 4, 2019 3:35 PM

Safe to say Warren is the current front runner now. Biden’s fundraising is terrible and completely dried up. If Warren can start making some serious inroads with older black voters then she’ll be unstoppable.

by Anonymousreply 31October 4, 2019 3:44 PM

Unless he's absolutely outstanding at the next two debates, I predict Biden's Q4 numbers will be even worse.

by Anonymousreply 32October 4, 2019 3:47 PM

I don't see Bernie's haul being huge in the fourth quarter.

by Anonymousreply 33October 4, 2019 3:51 PM

R33 Bernie is a fundraising beast. I read something like 90% of people who donated to him can donate to him again, meaning they haven’t maxed out. The reason Biden and Pete dropped so much is because they court rich people who will just donate the max amount on the first go. Biden’s well is running dry and he has no ability to raise grassroots money. It’s hilarious how hard people try to discredit Bernie and act like his campaign is in free fall. He just raised more money than anyone and it all came from the people. Unlike Pete, Biden, Harris and their fundraising weekends in the Hamptons.

by Anonymousreply 34October 4, 2019 3:55 PM

Bernie has so much money right now, he could get $5 million next quarter and he'd be just fine going forward. But I agree that it'll be lower as frail health is not very energising to people.

by Anonymousreply 35October 4, 2019 3:57 PM

Is Bernie dead yet?

by Anonymousreply 36October 4, 2019 3:59 PM

R34, the reason that people are discounting Sanders is that even with all of that money his campaign hasn't been able to gain any traction. He's stuck in the 15 to 17 percent range that he's been in for months.

by Anonymousreply 37October 4, 2019 4:00 PM

What a waste of money. I bet you some people get very rich off this scam every 4 years.

by Anonymousreply 38October 4, 2019 4:01 PM

R34, he may have been a fund raising beast, but electability is a huge concern... and heart issues + plummeting poll numbers don't scream electability.

In fact his heart issues may impact all the older candidates.

by Anonymousreply 39October 4, 2019 4:02 PM
Unlike Pete, Biden, Harris and their fundraising weekends in the Hamptons.

To be fair, all of them had to catch up to Warren's $10 million haul from her 2018 fundraising stints across Hollywood, Martha's Vineyard, Silicon Valley and elsewhere, which she neatly rolled into her presidential campaign this year. That's not a negligible amount of money at all. So they had to raise those funds while she could hold free rallies, bankrolled by rich people dough that she now describes as dirty money.

It was especially hard for Pete, with no emailing list and zero name recognition. Looking at the wider context, his numbers are actually the most impressive of the bunch.

by Anonymousreply 40October 4, 2019 4:03 PM

R39, what “plummeting” poll numbers? The anti Bernie crusaders are so sad. In every single early state poll he’s in the top 3 and in many states top 2. He has the most diverse coalition out of anyone currently running. He will still be in this thing all the way to the convention.

R40 no, his numbers aren’t the most impressive. He charges for every event he does and has buddied up with Wall st and Silicon Valley. Bernie’s fundraising is 100% from the working class. THAT is impressive.

by Anonymousreply 41October 4, 2019 4:10 PM
He will still be in this thing all the way to the convention.

That is highly unlikely. If he cannot make it any better than third in the first four contests, his support is going to hemorrhage. People back winners.

by Anonymousreply 42October 4, 2019 4:12 PM

Bernie's coalition isn't increasing. Money doesn't vote, people do. Unless he figures out to expand his base of support he will never win the nomination, his polls are static.

by Anonymousreply 43October 4, 2019 4:23 PM

It’s not? Lmao he had 1.4 million donations and had over 1 million individual donors, a number no one else comes close to. But keep clinging to those polls to fit your narrative. In 2016 he outperformed all of his polling and had some shocking victories. Bernie represents the working class, not beltway elites and manhattanites.

by Anonymousreply 44October 4, 2019 4:30 PM

Grampa is toast. The elderly Sanders is already falling victim to the grueling primary schedule. Remember when the Bernbots were claiming Hillary was to frail to run for president ?

R44 has drunk a gallon of Kool Aid

by Anonymousreply 46October 4, 2019 4:40 PM

No, R44, it's not, no matter how much you would like to pretend it is. Just as you're pretending that somehow we're using polls "to fit our narrative." Denying the actual data is foolish.

Sanders had massive advantages in fundraising, name recognition, and, as we've seen, a dedicated army of "Bernie Bros." He has not been able to capitalize on any of that, has not been able to move his numbers, has not been able to demonstrate anything other than turmoil in his campaign staff and regrettable decisions like hiring David Sirota.

And this isn't 2016, where it was just Clinton and Sanders. If you didn't like Clinton then, you had only one other place to go. Voters now have a dozen other candidates, including a few of them who still are viable options to win the nomination.

We haven't even seen the impact yet of his open heart surgery. At the moment, given his negatives and his inability to capitalize on his positives, I don't see a path to victory for him.

by Anonymousreply 47October 4, 2019 4:45 PM

People have dozens of people to choose from and yet more people chose Bernie than all of them. I trust fundraising much more than I trust polls that change with the wind. Bernie has the most diverse supporters and the youngest. Since you’re such a big fan of polls you’d know that the top second choice for Biden supporters is Bernie. As Biden falls, Warren and Bernie will go up.

And the Bernie bros myth is so tired. 53% of his support comes from women, with very high support coming from women of color.

by Anonymousreply 48October 4, 2019 4:53 PM

Bernie needs that money for hospital bills.

by Anonymousreply 49October 4, 2019 4:57 PM

R48, pretending that "more people chose Bernie than all of them" is foolish. Blindly ignoring the data and trying to wish it away is not going to be good for your sustained mental health. It's long past time for you to wake up.

by Anonymousreply 50October 4, 2019 5:00 PM

BTW you know Bernie had a heart attack, right? His campaign isn't outright saying it, but it's obvious if you read between the lines, as many in DL have correctly done.

"How's your heart, Bernie? Want to sit down? Look at him, doesn't he look tired? He's tired. Let's get him a chair up here." -Trump in any/every Trump v. Sanders presidential debate.

by Anonymousreply 51October 4, 2019 5:02 PM

I hope Bernie recovers. I also hope that we might get a break from the Bernie Bros like R48 but I have a feeling their whining will just increase.

by Anonymousreply 52October 4, 2019 5:19 PM

R50, how is getting more donors than anyone not proof that more people have chose Bernie? Seems like you’re ignoring data. And as far as I know no votes have been cast yet.

by Anonymousreply 53October 4, 2019 5:25 PM

Quarter totals and cumulative totals.

by Anonymousreply 54October 4, 2019 5:27 PM

^^ Subtract ~10M of senate campaign money from both Bernie and Warren and you'll be closer to the real picture.

by Anonymousreply 55October 4, 2019 5:29 PM

If only Bernie could translate his fundraising appeal and his yuugge rallies to actually winning over people who don't donate or attend rallies but do vote. Hillary cleaned up with those people and bern victims hated her for that.

by Anonymousreply 56October 4, 2019 5:44 PM
how is getting more donors than anyone not proof that more people have chose Bernie?

Because donors aren't votes, no matter how much you have desperately been trying to pretend they are. The reality is that Sanders is still in third place and he has not been able to change that, regardless of the advantages he has had and regardless of that army of "Bernie Bros" and regardless of that money he's been bringing in.
Since you’re such a big fan of polls you’d know that the top second choice for Biden supporters is Bernie.

And yet as Biden has been falling in the polls, it is not Sanders whose numbers have crept up: it's Warren's.

A candidate who cannot leverage his name recognition, his supporters, and his money to gain more supporters, to build a strong campaign, to put in place the state and national infrastructure necessary to win a campaign is not a candidate in a strong position and is not a candidate set up for success.

by Anonymousreply 57October 4, 2019 5:48 PM

Don't be delusional, r41. His poll numbers are cratering as support goes to Warren.

by Anonymousreply 58October 4, 2019 6:15 PM

Warren’s 24.6 million is very impressive. Nobody is going to catch up.

by Anonymousreply 59October 4, 2019 7:49 PM

Anybody that thinks Bernie is going to still be alive on Election Day is delusional.

by Anonymousreply 60October 4, 2019 7:50 PM

Technically, you're both right, R58. R41 is correct that Sanders' polling numbers on the national level have been fairly static, bouncing around from 15 to 17 percent, overall. Of course, given his advantages, that is not a good place to be. And even worse that with all he's got he hasn't been able to budge those numbers.

Where you're right and where it gets interesting is at the state level. He's definitely cratering in Iowa, dropping from nearly 25% earlier this year down to just 12%, in a virtual tie for fourth with Buttigieg. Similarly, he was at 27% in New Hampshire, then dropped to 15% when Biden announced. He briefly bounced back to 22% but then fell to 17%, in third place.

Nevada is the one state where Sanders is still doing okay but that's at least partially from an outlier poll in August, which had him at 29%. The most recent polls have him at 14% and 22%, respectively. Take away that earlier outlier and he's third behind Biden and Warren in this state, as well.

In South Carolina, he's sitting at 13.3%, down from a high of 17% in August.

So at the national level, Sanders' numbers are holding steady, which isn't really good news for him, and at the state level they're dropping, which is even worse news for him.

by Anonymousreply 61October 4, 2019 11:26 PM

The best possible outcome would be for him to die.

by Anonymousreply 62October 4, 2019 11:30 PM

I think Warren would prefer Biden and Bernie to remain competitive for awhile. She doesn't want to peak too early...the media LOVES a horse race.

This next debate should be really interesting. How will the other candidates treat Biden? Will Bernie get too excited on stage? Will Kamala try to throw a Hail Mary pass by bringing down Warren?

by Anonymousreply 63October 4, 2019 11:47 PM

Bernie will have to give all of it back

by Anonymousreply 64October 4, 2019 11:50 PM

Someone will have to go after Warren.

by Anonymousreply 65October 4, 2019 11:55 PM

It was a heart attack.

And with that news...every candidate under 70 just received a bump.

[bold]Pete Buttigieg Led Showbiz Fundraising In Latest Quarter; Kamala Harris Still Tops Money Race To Date[/bold]
Pete Buttigieg again led all other candidates in fundraising from showbiz sources in the most recent quarter, drawing contributions during the period from such figures as Michael J. Fox, Jennifer Garner, Seth MacFarlane, and David Mandel.
Buttigieg raised $262,059 during the quarter, edging out Kamala Harris, who raised $230,716, according to an analysis by the Center for Responsive Politics. Joe Biden raised $184,522 during the third quarter, which ended on Sept. 30.
Harris still leads in the Hollywood money race over all, with $1.1 million to Buttigieg’s $922,385 and Bernie Sanders with $605,533. Harris’ contributors during the quarter included actor Anthony Anderson and producer Nina Jacobson. Biden’s donors included director Cameron Crowe, producer Nicole Avant and Disney’s Dana Walden.
[bold]As has been the case throughout the cycle, a number of donors are giving to multiple candidates.[/bold] For instance, actor Leonardo DiCaprio gave to Harris and Cory Booker during the quarter, and was one of the guests at a Buttigieg event earlier this month.
