I could swear I remember him doing interviews while shooting Sherlock where he discussed his girlfriend.

by Anonymousreply 1September 25, 2019 8:19 PM

Who??

by Anonymousreply 2September 25, 2019 8:23 PM

R2 if only the first words in the body of the message explained who his is

by Anonymousreply 3September 25, 2019 8:41 PM

How does his ass compare to Matt Damon’s?

by Anonymousreply 4September 25, 2019 9:59 PM

I’m very excited about this series. Great source material, great casting.

by Anonymousreply 5September 25, 2019 10:05 PM

R2 He played Moriarty in the Sherlock series.

by Anonymousreply 6September 26, 2019 2:07 PM

If only r3 knew what "Who?" really means.

by Anonymousreply 7September 26, 2019 2:10 PM

I love Andrew Scott, but I have always hated the Tom Ripley books/movies. Guess I'll have to skip this one.

by Anonymousreply 8September 26, 2019 2:17 PM

He's a bit old...

by Anonymousreply 9September 26, 2019 2:18 PM

Just call him gay.

by Anonymousreply 10September 26, 2019 2:22 PM

This casting is surprising. I would have thought he'd be out of the age range for consideration.

by Anonymousreply 11September 26, 2019 2:24 PM

How could the article fail to mention the immortal first Tom Ripley?

[quote]He's a bit old...

He does seem old to be Tom Ripley. Otherwise though I would be quite satisfied with this casting. I didn't even know this series was happening, but I love the movie.

by Anonymousreply 13September 26, 2019 2:25 PM

The story will follow Ripley’s life beyond the first novel (“The Talented Mr. Ripley”), so his age is not an issue.

by Anonymousreply 14September 26, 2019 2:26 PM

R12, who's that?

by Anonymousreply 15September 26, 2019 2:32 PM

Alain Delon

R15 turn in your gay card ... if you have one

by Anonymousreply 17September 26, 2019 2:43 PM

He's already shown he can play a psychopath is the Sherlock series.

by Anonymousreply 18September 26, 2019 2:44 PM

Yay! Another Brit!

by Anonymousreply 19September 26, 2019 2:52 PM

I love Andrew Scott, he’s an incredibly talented and nice man. That being said, he’s a really bad casting choice for Ripley. He’s not young, nor attractive, which are two key components in how Ripley manipulates others. I want him to have a big success in Hollywood but everything about this spells flop.

by Anonymousreply 20September 26, 2019 2:59 PM

R20 He's charismatic, though. And attractive is subjective. It might work...

by Anonymousreply 21September 26, 2019 3:01 PM

Yea he looks really old and ugly. yikes.

by Anonymousreply 22September 26, 2019 3:01 PM

R22 I wouldn’t say he’s ugly. I’d just say there’s a big difference between a hot American 20-something (Damon in the 90’s movie) and a hot-ish Brit pushing 50.

by Anonymousreply 23September 26, 2019 3:08 PM

He’s 42 and hot as hell, IMHO.

by Anonymousreply 24September 26, 2019 3:21 PM

Any pics of his husband?

by Anonymousreply 25September 26, 2019 3:33 PM

R25 He’s single.

by Anonymousreply 26September 26, 2019 3:38 PM

Was in a longterm relationship with writer Stephen Beresford (the man next to him).

by Anonymousreply 27September 26, 2019 3:43 PM

I find him adorable, which isn't the same as hot.

I'll watch this.

by Anonymousreply 28September 26, 2019 3:43 PM

It's the eyebrows. If they were thicker, he'd be better looking. He seems to be very well liked as an actor.

by Anonymousreply 29September 26, 2019 3:44 PM

Per r27, he apparently revealed earlier this year that he and Beresford have split up.

by Anonymousreply 30September 26, 2019 3:44 PM

[Quote] Yay! Another Brit!

I think he's Irish. From Ireland.

by Anonymousreply 31September 26, 2019 3:45 PM

John Malkovich played Ripley when he was around 50, so I have no problem with this casting.

by Anonymousreply 32September 26, 2019 3:45 PM

I like Andrew Scott, but I think he's wrong for Tom Ripley. Scott is in his 40s and isn't very good-looking.

by Anonymousreply 33September 26, 2019 3:46 PM

He and Beresford were cute together. Too bad.

Saw him onstage in London this summer. He's the real deal, charismatic as hell.

by Anonymousreply 35September 26, 2019 3:47 PM

National Theatre Live will be broadcasting Scott's production of Noel Coward's Present Laughter in theaters around the USA:

LOL r17. Younger people barely even know who Paul Newman was, you think they'd know Alain Delon?

by Anonymousreply 37September 26, 2019 3:50 PM

Wow. That's great news. Love Andrew Scott.

by Anonymousreply 38September 26, 2019 4:03 PM

When he played Moriarty, I wanted him in me.

by Anonymousreply 39September 26, 2019 5:13 PM

BARF.

by Anonymousreply 40September 26, 2019 8:04 PM

Love him

by Anonymousreply 41September 27, 2019 3:25 PM

So they're not adapting the first novel? Only the shittier sequel(s)? Damn shame.

by Anonymousreply 42September 29, 2019 1:44 PM

Does that mean they want to make Tom Ripley more explicitly bisexual on screen? He is supposed to be bisexual in the novel.

by Anonymousreply 43September 29, 2019 3:08 PM

Meh. Look at the Dickie Greenleaf. Not thrilled.

Flynn was extremely sexy in a play I saw in London called Hangmen. I saw him in some TV thing last year-Les Miserables?-and he REALLY lost his looks.

by Anonymousreply 45January 22, 2020 8:44 PM

Did anyone see Ripley's Game? It was good, although sad to think Matt Damon grew into...John Malkovich?

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 46January 22, 2020 8:53 PM

Too old. Ripley is college-aged in the first novel.

by Anonymousreply 47January 22, 2020 9:34 PM

Hugh Skinner would be so much better... He's more younger, more handsome and gay as well.

by Anonymousreply 48January 22, 2020 9:46 PM

[quote]How could the article fail to mention the immortal first Tom Ripley?

or the second

by Anonymousreply 49January 22, 2020 10:31 PM

ripley shouldn't he too hot or beautiful, but, if they're doing the first book, dickie should be a god

by Anonymousreply 50January 22, 2020 10:36 PM

The poster in my bedroom.

by Anonymousreply 51January 22, 2020 11:27 PM

OP, why do you think it's a big deal that they cast a gay actor to play a bisexual character?

by Anonymousreply 52January 23, 2020 1:13 AM

he played the hetero but not totally celibate priest in Fleabag quite convincingly.

i think it's called "acting". something that both gays and straights can do

by Anonymousreply 53January 23, 2020 6:55 PM

Modern Love, episode 7.

by Anonymousreply 54January 31, 2020 3:15 PM

Did you listen to his episode of the podcast Homophilia?

by Anonymousreply 55January 31, 2020 3:21 PM

R39 he is a total bottom, you would be in him.

by Anonymousreply 56January 31, 2020 5:01 PM

I haven't read the book, only saw the movie when it first came out. I thought Tom was meant to be gay and Dickie was a closet case?

by Anonymousreply 57January 31, 2020 5:32 PM

Dakota Fanning will play Marge

Whose ass is that in r49 - Jude Law?

I barely remember the movie. As a matter of fact, I remember so little about it that I might not actually have ever seen it and only know it from hearing about it - that's how little I recall it.

by Anonymousreply 59March 11, 2021 9:15 PM

Malkovich wasn't physically appealing as TR back in 2002, but he nailed the character's psychopathy. The movie is good.

Scott will be worth a look in the role.

ANother Tom Ripley: Dennis Hopper (THE AMERICAN FRIEND, WIm Wenders, 1977). Hopper didn't work for me, and Highsmith initally found him a bad choice.

by Anonymousreply 60March 11, 2021 9:17 PM

That's the problem, Tom Ripley shouldn't openly read as gay. That's the whole point. And that gayface and giant forehead do him no favors. No thanks.

by Anonymousreply 61March 11, 2021 9:23 PM

[quote] Whose ass is that in R49 - Jude Law?

Yes.

by Anonymousreply 62March 11, 2021 10:31 PM

Casted
