He does seem old to be Tom Ripley. Otherwise though I would be quite satisfied with this casting. I didn't even know this series was happening, but I love the movie.

The story will follow Ripley’s life beyond the first novel (“The Talented Mr. Ripley”), so his age is not an issue.

I love Andrew Scott, he’s an incredibly talented and nice man. That being said, he’s a really bad casting choice for Ripley. He’s not young, nor attractive, which are two key components in how Ripley manipulates others. I want him to have a big success in Hollywood but everything about this spells flop.

It's the eyebrows. If they were thicker, he'd be better looking. He seems to be very well liked as an actor.

John Malkovich played Ripley when he was around 50, so I have no problem with this casting.

I like Andrew Scott, but I think he's wrong for Tom Ripley. Scott is in his 40s and isn't very good-looking.

He and Beresford were cute together. Too bad.

Saw him onstage in London this summer. He's the real deal, charismatic as hell.

Too old. Ripley is college-aged in the first novel.

I barely remember the movie. As a matter of fact, I remember so little about it that I might not actually have ever seen it and only know it from hearing about it - that's how little I recall it.

Malkovich wasn't physically appealing as TR back in 2002, but he nailed the character's psychopathy. The movie is good.

Scott will be worth a look in the role.

ANother Tom Ripley: Dennis Hopper (THE AMERICAN FRIEND, WIm Wenders, 1977). Hopper didn't work for me, and Highsmith initally found him a bad choice.

That's the problem, Tom Ripley shouldn't openly read as gay. That's the whole point. And that gayface and giant forehead do him no favors. No thanks.
