Will Dylan Sprayberry take over?

Fucked up Star Trek, then Star Wars, and now DC superheroes.

R5 not really he just can't finish what he started. Lost, Fringe etc...
by Anonymous | reply 6 | September 24, 2019 6:15 PM |
I personally loved his first Star Trek movie. The second was just ok and then the third sucked, and you could tell he didn’t direct it.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | September 24, 2019 6:23 PM |
r7 exactly good ideas to start - no follow-up - then threads...just threads...I think he went to the Ryan Murphy school of writing.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | September 24, 2019 6:38 PM |
I did like his Star Wars movie too, to be honest. It was a rehash of A New Hope but a good one.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | September 24, 2019 6:40 PM |
r9 supposidly George Lucas HATED that movie. He hated the script saying exactly what you said - it was a rehash of what he did.

R10 but Lucas also loved Episode 1-3, which says a lot.

Hollywood needs to stop making all of these superhero movies. I've reached fatigue after almost 20 years of it non stop and it's time for something new. Maybe this and the meltdown happening over at Marvel will finish it off for a long time.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | September 24, 2019 7:00 PM |
R12 One can only hope. DC movies have been trashed for a while, so they don’t have the sheeple crowd that Marvel had. And now that Marvel is doing new heroes that nobody knows or cares about and the Infinity saga is over, maybe we can hold out hope that the superhero fad is dying.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | September 24, 2019 7:06 PM |
I think Marvels upcoming TV shows will do better than their upcoming movies.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | September 24, 2019 7:10 PM |
I think Henry has the right look, but the DC movies have been so dire that he didn’t have much of a chance.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | September 24, 2019 7:20 PM |
Superman is so hard to do because he is all-powerful. The Luthor angle is good but been told over and over. Same for the origin story. What they should do is the death of superman but skip the justice league bs. The four supermen appear - Superman is reborn and ends up fighting the eradicator to save Lois, who ends up saving the day for Superman not just a chick who needs saving.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | September 24, 2019 7:55 PM |
Not only is Superman so powerful that it makes finding a genuine antagonist difficult, but he also has the wholesome boy scout, do no wrong aesthetic.
They really need to take some lessons from Marvel and how they created conflict and forces of antagonism for Captain America. The failure of Justice League was that Batman was unhinged, not that we could actually see his side or that Superman took the opposing and equally valid point of view, unlike in Captain America Civil War.
You don't need to make him "dark" to make him interesting.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | September 24, 2019 11:13 PM |

Actually, you can say what you want about J.J. Abrams, but he knows how to cast. Star Trek and Star Wars both had terrifically cast actors. If he’s really stepping into Superman movies, he’ll find someone great for the role.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | September 25, 2019 11:37 AM |
So, basically, Henry just looks too manly compared to fey RPATTZ for an eventual rebooted Justice League, then? Will they also recast Gadot and Momoa, who both make Pattzy look like their smaller, mentally deficient little brother? And, three films of RPATTZ and his mouth breathing and nostril flaring? Fuck you, WBDC, ugh.

If Warner Brothers reboots Superman it will be as original programming for HBO Max. No one wants to see another Superman origin story on the big screen again. At least so soon.

Not just so soon, but at all. How many do we need for both Superman and Batman.
I'm not a Marvel fanboy, but at least they knew NOT to do another Spider Man origin movie when they introduced him into their movies.
The failure of WB/DC is that they are trying to hard to make money and have blockbusters that they seem to have forgotten to make good movies. They've mostly been Michael Bay movies without the artistry.

WarnerMedia only has a 50% stake in CW which itself may not be long for this world anyway given the youth demographic's abandonment of linear viewing. Meanwhile they are desperate to fill their new streaming service HBO Max with original, Warner-branded content.

I'd say that he has a lot riding on the upcoming Witcher adaptation on Netflix.
Like the YA dystopian bandwagon of a few years back, everyone is jumping on the prestige fantasy adaptations since Game of Thrones ended. From the new Lord of the Rings tv show to Wheel of Time to another go round for Earthsea, there are so many vying for attention and dollars who knows if Witcher will stand out.
If it fails, I think we're likely going to be seeing a lot less of him in marquee roles.

Rumor is that he burned too many bridges, which is probably why WB refused to bring on McQ as writer/director for a possible MOS sequel. McQ was Cavill's suggestion, but as great as McQ is for Mission Impossible, they weren't biting.

R48 He had walked off the set of Stratton as a producer/actor. Just last year, he demanded more money and a sequel to made for Superman. WB wasn't in the giving mood. They wanted him to do a Shazam cameo and play nice. He did not oblige them.

They have to go the comical direction with Superman. He's too perfect to be in these self serious films they keep making. Captain America had a perfect heart but he was far from physically all-powerful. That's why his movies worked.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | October 26, 2019 7:38 AM |

One has nothing to do with the other. Hence CW's The Flash and Erza Miller portraying the character in Justice League. Iterations of Batman/Bruce Wayne on Gotham and Teen Titans didn't effect the DCEU's version with Ben Affleck and soon to be Robert Pattinson. There's also talk that the character will make an appearance on Batwoman. Several DC characters have simultaneously been portrayed on the small screen and in the DCEU, including Deathstroke, Black Canary, Amanda Waller and the entire Suicide Squad.
This means that the CW is frantically looking for another flagship show. Other than The Flash, nearly all their DC properties seem to be limping along. Arrow is currently in its last season. Batwoman debuted with surprisingly low ratings - even for the CW. Supergirl has also been slipping in the ratings, as her Sunday at 9 pm timeslot has her up against Sunday Night Football and The Walking Dead. And Legends of Tomorrow and Black Lightning were probably never big audience draws.
by Anonymous | reply 88 | October 29, 2019 7:30 PM |
Young people don't bother with linear television anymore. They stream everything. Absolutely no reason for CW to keep operating.

Batwoman did great. CW doesn't care about live ratings. And a blurry Batman did show up for about five seconds. They still don't like to show him properly on tv shows.

Not true. "Insiders think that a new Superman film is unlikely to hit screens before 2023, given that there’s no script and no director attached."
First of all, "insiders" are not the execs at WB, who don't seem to be particularly savvy. They just need to go on and shelf the character for the next decade and drop the idea about making a Van-El film. The fanboys lost their minds when Michael B. Jordan played Johnny Storm. Race swapping Superman ain't going to go over well at all. Now we have The Rock confirmed as Black Adam and dropping hints about wanting to fight Superman (guess the under performing Shazaam isn't enough to hype up the project....). Dany Garcia's brother, who's the producer on the film, came out with a statement that he's receptive to the idea. So Henry may be back in the cape after all.

And you're a dumb bitch for falling for their foolishness.
Did your beady-eyed ass even read the article? Does it make sense to you that it cites a possible reason why Cavill's Superman under performed was because of the character's over saturation, yet the CW aka WARNER BROTHERS has just greenlit a Lois and Clark series? Cavill's Superman under performed because of the deviation to the character. Yet race swapping is a possible winning formula? GTFOH! The fanboys have already gone rabid over the wokeness of Star Wars and the MCU. And WB/DC's properties are no where near as resilient.

It wouldn't be race swapping since a black Superman does exist.

Outside of longtime Superman comics readers, who even knows this? The premise has to go over with general audiences too.

He needs to just stop. It's getting embarrassing. Remember Sean Young was trying to get Catwoman.

What Ghostbusters, Terminator Dark Fate, and Charlie's Angels demonstrate is that catering to a social agenda for movies with gender or race swapping has to take a back seat to making a good movie.
If every person whining about strong women characters had actually gone to see those movies, they wouldn't be the utter, money losing failures that they were.
The sad reality is that if you make a casting choice that is unpopular, and let's not kid ourselves about a black superman, the bar for how good the movie has to be is that much higher to drown out the negative buzz. It's possible, sure. But, it's not a safe financial bet for a $100mm+ movie.

R136 let's just see how Supergirl does first. I would've been cool with a tv show about Val-Zod. But fans are already attached to Tyler's version.

No, it only proves that if it wasn't on the page, it shouldn't be on the stage. Case in point, the first Charlie's Angels was a success and it had "race swapping" and Terminator always featured Linda Hamilton.

David Coronswet is now rumored to be in the minds of the WB execs as Supes.

[Quote] But studios grow impatient, and, though it would be a risky casting decision in replacing fan-favorite Cavill, Warner Bros. is reportedly shopping around.
Because as usual, the WB is known for making smart decisions.

I don't think it matters who plays Supes, because fans will go see whoever it is in the costume. If it works, it'll do well, if not. . .
by Anonymous | reply 142 | December 3, 2019 7:59 AM |
Why would they get a new superman that looks just like the previous one. Lame
by Anonymous | reply 143 | December 3, 2019 9:52 AM |
FFS they aren’t going to replace Cavill with Fetus Cavill.
They probably won’t make a Superman movie for another five years anyway.

Wait. Someone thinks the new Charlie’s Angels bombed because there was a black person? REALLY???

Someone to appeal to the "woke" generation would be helpful.

Ironically Ella was the only believable Angel.

People forget an Asian was in the 2000 movie, and cast after Thandie Newton dropped out.

No, what it actually proves is that you don't have good reading comprehension - or that you think you can obfuscate by tossing out non sequiturs to pretend to score points.

Now Snyder is confirming there is in fact a cut.
I think Henry didn't join in with the other JL way back when WB were first thinking about dropping Snyder. That's why Snyder didn't show Henry the cut.
by Anonymous | reply 154 | December 6, 2019 11:28 PM |
Sounds like some of the Snyder fanboys aren't happy with what Henry said. And it wasn't even that bad.
by Anonymous | reply 155 | December 7, 2019 12:03 AM |
Henry has been trying to get in good graces and keep his Superman role now.
by Anonymous | reply 156 | December 7, 2019 12:05 AM |
His neutrality façade will always get him in trouble.
by Anonymous | reply 157 | December 7, 2019 3:04 AM |
R157 He wasn't neutral. There was an article in which he questioned the purpose of the Synder cut and how he doubted how lucrative it could be. On top of that, during the JL filming, he pretty much jumped on the Whedon bandwagon.

R158 So being neutral indeed
by Anonymous | reply 159 | December 7, 2019 7:53 AM |
I wouldn't mind seeing Henry work with Whedon again.
by Anonymous | reply 160 | December 7, 2019 8:42 AM |
R159 Learn the definition of neutral. He clearly said that he doesn't see the movie being lucrative. Translation: He doesn't see the studio going in that direction if it doesn't make them money. It's shading Synder in that he's thinking it will bomb.
by Anonymous | reply 161 | December 7, 2019 9:16 AM |
