Henry Cavill Out as Superman... JJ Abrams recasting him

RIP sexy hot beautiful Cavill Superman.

My favorite.

Abrams wants someone “younger”

Will Dylan Sprayberry take over?

by Anonymousreply 1September 24, 2019 3:39 PM

Fucked up Star Trek, then Star Wars, and now DC superheroes.

by Anonymousreply 2September 24, 2019 3:57 PM

^^^My EXACT first thought.

by Anonymousreply 3September 24, 2019 5:33 PM

I love his Star Trek

by Anonymousreply 4September 24, 2019 5:34 PM

Abrams destroys everything he touches.

by Anonymousreply 5September 24, 2019 6:09 PM

R5 not really he just can't finish what he started. Lost, Fringe etc...

by Anonymousreply 6September 24, 2019 6:15 PM

I personally loved his first Star Trek movie. The second was just ok and then the third sucked, and you could tell he didn’t direct it.

by Anonymousreply 7September 24, 2019 6:23 PM

r7 exactly good ideas to start - no follow-up - then threads...just threads...I think he went to the Ryan Murphy school of writing.

by Anonymousreply 8September 24, 2019 6:38 PM

I did like his Star Wars movie too, to be honest. It was a rehash of A New Hope but a good one.

by Anonymousreply 9September 24, 2019 6:40 PM

r9 supposidly George Lucas HATED that movie. He hated the script saying exactly what you said - it was a rehash of what he did.

by Anonymousreply 10September 24, 2019 6:46 PM

R10 but Lucas also loved Episode 1-3, which says a lot.

by Anonymousreply 11September 24, 2019 6:50 PM

Hollywood needs to stop making all of these superhero movies. I've reached fatigue after almost 20 years of it non stop and it's time for something new. Maybe this and the meltdown happening over at Marvel will finish it off for a long time.

by Anonymousreply 12September 24, 2019 7:00 PM

R12 One can only hope. DC movies have been trashed for a while, so they don’t have the sheeple crowd that Marvel had. And now that Marvel is doing new heroes that nobody knows or cares about and the Infinity saga is over, maybe we can hold out hope that the superhero fad is dying.

by Anonymousreply 13September 24, 2019 7:06 PM

I think Marvels upcoming TV shows will do better than their upcoming movies.

by Anonymousreply 14September 24, 2019 7:10 PM

I think Henry has the right look, but the DC movies have been so dire that he didn’t have much of a chance.

by Anonymousreply 15September 24, 2019 7:20 PM

Superman is so hard to do because he is all-powerful. The Luthor angle is good but been told over and over. Same for the origin story. What they should do is the death of superman but skip the justice league bs. The four supermen appear - Superman is reborn and ends up fighting the eradicator to save Lois, who ends up saving the day for Superman not just a chick who needs saving.

by Anonymousreply 16September 24, 2019 7:55 PM

Not only is Superman so powerful that it makes finding a genuine antagonist difficult, but he also has the wholesome boy scout, do no wrong aesthetic.

They really need to take some lessons from Marvel and how they created conflict and forces of antagonism for Captain America. The failure of Justice League was that Batman was unhinged, not that we could actually see his side or that Superman took the opposing and equally valid point of view, unlike in Captain America Civil War.

You don't need to make him "dark" to make him interesting.

by Anonymousreply 17September 24, 2019 11:13 PM

Enough of Kal-El, give me Val-Zod instead. Or better yet, wait and see how Supergirl does.

by Anonymousreply 18September 25, 2019 4:57 AM

Henry being out as Superman is like year old news.

by Anonymousreply 19September 25, 2019 5:28 AM

Hey, J.J./Hollywood -- how about stopping with the fucking superheroes movies, already? They're no longer "special" if there's one coming out once a month.

by Anonymousreply 20September 25, 2019 5:40 AM

Colton’s not busy.

by Anonymousreply 21September 25, 2019 5:53 AM

OP this new is A YEAR OLD

FF

by Anonymousreply 22September 25, 2019 6:40 AM

This is age discrimination.

by Anonymousreply 23September 25, 2019 10:50 AM

Actually, you can say what you want about J.J. Abrams, but he knows how to cast. Star Trek and Star Wars both had terrifically cast actors. If he’s really stepping into Superman movies, he’ll find someone great for the role.

by Anonymousreply 24September 25, 2019 11:37 AM

So, basically, Henry just looks too manly compared to fey RPATTZ for an eventual rebooted Justice League, then? Will they also recast Gadot and Momoa, who both make Pattzy look like their smaller, mentally deficient little brother? And, three films of RPATTZ and his mouth breathing and nostril flaring? Fuck you, WBDC, ugh.

by Anonymousreply 25September 25, 2019 12:00 PM

If Warner Brothers reboots Superman it will be as original programming for HBO Max. No one wants to see another Superman origin story on the big screen again. At least so soon.

by Anonymousreply 26September 25, 2019 12:14 PM

[quote]No one wants to see another Superman origin story on the big screen again. At least so soon.

Not just so soon, but at all. How many do we need for both Superman and Batman.

I'm not a Marvel fanboy, but at least they knew NOT to do another Spider Man origin movie when they introduced him into their movies.

The failure of WB/DC is that they are trying to hard to make money and have blockbusters that they seem to have forgotten to make good movies. They've mostly been Michael Bay movies without the artistry.

by Anonymousreply 27September 25, 2019 12:22 PM

[Quote] If Warner Brothers reboots Superman it will be as original programming for HBO Max.

Why HBO and not the CW??

by Anonymousreply 28September 25, 2019 2:25 PM

WarnerMedia only has a 50% stake in CW which itself may not be long for this world anyway given the youth demographic's abandonment of linear viewing. Meanwhile they are desperate to fill their new streaming service HBO Max with original, Warner-branded content.

by Anonymousreply 29September 25, 2019 3:34 PM

R29 that makes sense.

by Anonymousreply 30September 26, 2019 2:24 AM

[quote]Henry being out as Superman is like year old news.

Yep, old news, OP.

Henry and his manager talked him out of a job.

Tehe.

by Anonymousreply 33October 1, 2019 3:09 AM

I hear he's going into bodybuilding.

by Anonymousreply 34October 1, 2019 3:18 AM

R34 That doesn't bring in any money.

by Anonymousreply 35October 1, 2019 6:02 AM

Hasn't he made all the money he needs? He doesn't have any ex-wives or kids.

by Anonymousreply 36October 1, 2019 6:05 AM

Henry’s career seems to be on the downslide.

by Anonymousreply 37October 1, 2019 6:10 AM

R36 He hasn't made much money. That's why he wanted his contract renegotiated.

by Anonymousreply 38October 1, 2019 6:30 AM

[Quote] He doesn't have any ex-wives or kids.

Lol not yet.

by Anonymousreply 39October 1, 2019 6:48 AM

[quote]Henry’s career seems to be on the downslide.

I'd say that he has a lot riding on the upcoming Witcher adaptation on Netflix.

Like the YA dystopian bandwagon of a few years back, everyone is jumping on the prestige fantasy adaptations since Game of Thrones ended. From the new Lord of the Rings tv show to Wheel of Time to another go round for Earthsea, there are so many vying for attention and dollars who knows if Witcher will stand out.

If it fails, I think we're likely going to be seeing a lot less of him in marquee roles.

by Anonymousreply 40October 1, 2019 10:20 PM

R40 Shouldn't he do other projects in the meantime instead of putting all of his eggs in one basket?

by Anonymousreply 41October 14, 2019 6:22 AM

I'm avialable!

by Anonymousreply 42October 14, 2019 6:35 AM

I guess the Superman curse strikes again!

by Anonymousreply 43October 14, 2019 7:01 AM

What is he going to do now? Personal trainer? I actually really liked him as Superman. How many damn Batman and Supermans are we going to get?

by Anonymousreply 44October 14, 2019 7:08 AM

The success of Joker would indicate that even just wrapping a turd in a comic book wrapper with a whiff of super heroism will make young filmgoers FLOCK to the cinema so - no end in sight, I’m afraid.

by Anonymousreply 45October 14, 2019 7:29 AM

Still R35, would love to see a totally jacked Henry Cavill in a posing pouch. Maybe he’s going to go the Ah-nuld route to reboot his career.

by Anonymousreply 46October 14, 2019 7:32 AM

[quote]Maybe he’s going to go the Ah-nuld route to reboot his career.

Rumor is that he burned too many bridges, which is probably why WB refused to bring on McQ as writer/director for a possible MOS sequel. McQ was Cavill's suggestion, but as great as McQ is for Mission Impossible, they weren't biting.

by Anonymousreply 47October 14, 2019 7:47 AM

R47 Who did he burn bridges with?

by Anonymousreply 48October 14, 2019 7:54 AM

Warner Brothers and he even walked off the set of a movie, a year or two before he pissed off WB.

by Anonymousreply 49October 14, 2019 8:44 AM

So Cavill is to WB what Andrew Garfield is to Sony?

Garfield pissed off the big heads at Sony, so they dropped him.

by Anonymousreply 50October 14, 2019 9:53 AM

R49 Which set? and why?

by Anonymousreply 51October 14, 2019 10:23 AM

If not for his borderline stalker here on DL, Henry Cavill's name would've been completely and totally out of the collective public conscience years ago.

by Anonymousreply 52October 14, 2019 10:24 AM

R52

But But

The Durrell Creatures

by Anonymousreply 53October 14, 2019 10:27 AM

R1 Dylan can play Superman's perpetually horny cousin, Jizzboy.

by Anonymousreply 54October 14, 2019 10:32 AM

R54 he should make a cameo on Crisis 🤣

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 55October 14, 2019 11:13 AM

R54 Jizzboy's costume would of course include hotpants to show of his pert little hiney, the better to make the bad guys jizz themselves into submission.

by Anonymousreply 56October 15, 2019 12:41 AM

R48 He had walked off the set of Stratton as a producer/actor. Just last year, he demanded more money and a sequel to made for Superman. WB wasn't in the giving mood. They wanted him to do a Shazam cameo and play nice. He did not oblige them.

by Anonymousreply 57October 15, 2019 6:30 AM

[Quote] He had walked off the set of Stratton as a producer/actor.

Not a wise decision but that movie ended up being shit.

by Anonymousreply 58October 15, 2019 12:55 PM

by Anonymousreply 65October 18, 2019 2:25 AM

by Anonymousreply 66October 18, 2019 3:06 AM

Have a feeling they're gonna go a controversial route and cast an actor of color, keanu Reeves was wanted for superman returns originally for example.

by Anonymousreply 67October 18, 2019 3:12 AM

They wanted Michael B Jordan

by Anonymousreply 68October 18, 2019 3:16 AM

R67 how would that be controversial??

R68 was that actually confirmed?? Or just a rumour??

by Anonymousreply 69October 18, 2019 3:18 AM

R69 I think that was just rumor. It was crazy after the news that Cavill was let go as Supes.

by Anonymousreply 70October 20, 2019 6:44 AM

R70 that's what i thought. MBJ has already been in F4 and Black Panther. I'd think they would go with an unknown if they decided to do a movie about Val-Zod. And now there's rumours about 2 different SM characters getting their own show on HBO Max....

by Anonymousreply 71October 20, 2019 10:26 AM

What would a SM show ok HBO be like?

by Anonymousreply 72October 20, 2019 2:38 PM

R72 hopefully better than if it was on the CW.

Cavill was perfect for Superman. HOT

by Anonymousreply 75October 26, 2019 3:59 AM

I'm not understanding why he's out as Superman. He is not that old. I grew up in the seventies and loved Christopher Reeve. He made me excited about Superman again, Mr. Cavill. Now we're going to get some douchebag. It's just going to be like when we lost Heath ledger as the Joker. We ended up with that stupid ass pedophile Jared Leto.

by Anonymousreply 76October 26, 2019 4:08 AM

[quote]'m not understanding why he's out as Superman. He is not that old.

He was a douche to the studio, who didn't want to make any Superman movies. They wanted him to do a cameo for Shazam, and he was playing hardball with no ball in the game.

by Anonymousreply 77October 26, 2019 4:35 AM

[Quote] It's just going to be like when we lost Heath ledger as the Joker. We ended up with that stupid ass pedophile Jared Leto.

They lost Heath because he died. And Jared is no longer the Joker.

by Anonymousreply 78October 26, 2019 5:54 AM

They have to go the comical direction with Superman. He's too perfect to be in these self serious films they keep making. Captain America had a perfect heart but he was far from physically all-powerful. That's why his movies worked.

by Anonymousreply 79October 26, 2019 7:38 AM

Anyway, I don't know why they need to do live action Superman movies. Just keep him in animated movies to push your merchandise. He's just not an interesting character to write for.

by Anonymousreply 87October 29, 2019 2:32 PM

[quote] The point is there clearly not planning on doing a Superman movie dumbass.

One has nothing to do with the other. Hence CW's The Flash and Erza Miller portraying the character in Justice League. Iterations of Batman/Bruce Wayne on Gotham and Teen Titans didn't effect the DCEU's version with Ben Affleck and soon to be Robert Pattinson. There's also talk that the character will make an appearance on Batwoman. Several DC characters have simultaneously been portrayed on the small screen and in the DCEU, including Deathstroke, Black Canary, Amanda Waller and the entire Suicide Squad.

This means that the CW is frantically looking for another flagship show. Other than The Flash, nearly all their DC properties seem to be limping along. Arrow is currently in its last season. Batwoman debuted with surprisingly low ratings - even for the CW. Supergirl has also been slipping in the ratings, as her Sunday at 9 pm timeslot has her up against Sunday Night Football and The Walking Dead. And Legends of Tomorrow and Black Lightning were probably never big audience draws.

by Anonymousreply 88October 29, 2019 7:30 PM

Young people don't bother with linear television anymore. They stream everything. Absolutely no reason for CW to keep operating.

by Anonymousreply 89October 29, 2019 7:33 PM

[Quote] Batwoman debuted with surprisingly low ratings - even for the CW.

Batwoman did great. CW doesn't care about live ratings. And a blurry Batman did show up for about five seconds. They still don't like to show him properly on tv shows.

Enough with the Superman movies. Story has been told over and over. Plus it's not a particularly interesting character. Flawless characters are of a bygone era. This is the era of the tainted protagonist. The only way to do it half interesting is to make from Lois perspective. Investigating some shady Lex Luther plot and slowly discovering the dorky dude in the newsroom isn't all he seems. Hijinks ensue

by Anonymousreply 119November 23, 2019 4:52 AM

R119 there was supposed to be a show called Metropolis on the DC streaming service that would focus on Lois and Lex. But I guess they passed on that idea once they got permission to give Superman his own series.

by Anonymousreply 123November 26, 2019 11:05 PM

[quote] Superman benched from movies until at least 2023

Not true. "Insiders think that a new Superman film is unlikely to hit screens before 2023, given that there’s no script and no director attached."

First of all, "insiders" are not the execs at WB, who don't seem to be particularly savvy. They just need to go on and shelf the character for the next decade and drop the idea about making a Van-El film. The fanboys lost their minds when Michael B. Jordan played Johnny Storm. Race swapping Superman ain't going to go over well at all. Now we have The Rock confirmed as Black Adam and dropping hints about wanting to fight Superman (guess the under performing Shazaam isn't enough to hype up the project....). Dany Garcia's brother, who's the producer on the film, came out with a statement that he's receptive to the idea. So Henry may be back in the cape after all.

by Anonymousreply 129November 27, 2019 2:12 AM

R125, I meant what I said. And I don't give a fuck whether it's Variety or The Daily Mail. If the quotes aren't coming directly from the mouths of Walter Hamada and the execs at WB, it's another bullshit clickbait article. Variety needs clicks just like any other media outlet. And you're a dumb bitch for falling for their foolishness.

Did your beady-eyed ass even read the article? Does it make sense to you that it cites a possible reason why Cavill's Superman under performed was because of the character's over saturation, yet the CW aka WARNER BROTHERS has just greenlit a Lois and Clark series? Cavill's Superman under performed because of the deviation to the character. Yet race swapping is a possible winning formula? GTFOH! The fanboys have already gone rabid over the wokeness of Star Wars and the MCU. And WB/DC's properties are no where near as resilient.

by Anonymousreply 130November 27, 2019 2:12 AM

[Quote] Yet race swapping is a possible winning formula?

It wouldn't be race swapping since a black Superman does exist.

by Anonymousreply 131November 27, 2019 7:13 AM

Outside of longtime Superman comics readers, who even knows this? The premise has to go over with general audiences too.

by Anonymousreply 132November 27, 2019 7:03 PM

He needs to just stop. It's getting embarrassing. Remember Sean Young was trying to get Catwoman.

Another blind about Henry on Blind items today.

Then post a link to it, you worthless tube of cuntpaste.

[quote]Yet race swapping is a possible winning formula?

[quote]It wouldn't be race swapping since a black Superman does exist.

What Ghostbusters, Terminator Dark Fate, and Charlie's Angels demonstrate is that catering to a social agenda for movies with gender or race swapping has to take a back seat to making a good movie.

If every person whining about strong women characters had actually gone to see those movies, they wouldn't be the utter, money losing failures that they were.

The sad reality is that if you make a casting choice that is unpopular, and let's not kid ourselves about a black superman, the bar for how good the movie has to be is that much higher to drown out the negative buzz. It's possible, sure. But, it's not a safe financial bet for a $100mm+ movie.

by Anonymousreply 136December 3, 2019 2:05 AM

R136 let's just see how Supergirl does first. I would've been cool with a tv show about Val-Zod. But fans are already attached to Tyler's version.

by Anonymousreply 137December 3, 2019 3:40 AM

R135, are you the Thanksgiving Otter?

No, it only proves that if it wasn't on the page, it shouldn't be on the stage. Case in point, the first Charlie's Angels was a success and it had "race swapping" and Terminator always featured Linda Hamilton.

David Coronswet is now rumored to be in the minds of the WB execs as Supes.

[Quote] But studios grow impatient, and, though it would be a risky casting decision in replacing fan-favorite Cavill, Warner Bros. is reportedly shopping around.

Because as usual, the WB is known for making smart decisions.

by Anonymousreply 141December 3, 2019 7:52 AM

I don't think it matters who plays Supes, because fans will go see whoever it is in the costume. If it works, it'll do well, if not. . .

by Anonymousreply 142December 3, 2019 7:59 AM

Why would they get a new superman that looks just like the previous one. Lame

by Anonymousreply 143December 3, 2019 9:52 AM

FFS they aren’t going to replace Cavill with Fetus Cavill.

They probably won’t make a Superman movie for another five years anyway.

by Anonymousreply 144December 3, 2019 10:40 AM

Wait. Someone thinks the new Charlie’s Angels bombed because there was a black person? REALLY???

by Anonymousreply 145December 3, 2019 10:40 AM

Someone to appeal to the "woke" generation would be helpful.

Ironically Ella was the only believable Angel.

People forget an Asian was in the 2000 movie, and cast after Thandie Newton dropped out.

No, what it actually proves is that you don't have good reading comprehension - or that you think you can obfuscate by tossing out non sequiturs to pretend to score points.

by Anonymousreply 149December 3, 2019 10:47 PM

Anyone that believes Charlie’s Angels flopped because of Ella, of all people, are morons.

by Anonymousreply 153December 6, 2019 5:42 PM

Now Snyder is confirming there is in fact a cut.

I think Henry didn't join in with the other JL way back when WB were first thinking about dropping Snyder. That's why Snyder didn't show Henry the cut.

by Anonymousreply 154December 6, 2019 11:28 PM

Sounds like some of the Snyder fanboys aren't happy with what Henry said. And it wasn't even that bad.

by Anonymousreply 155December 7, 2019 12:03 AM

Henry has been trying to get in good graces and keep his Superman role now.

by Anonymousreply 156December 7, 2019 12:05 AM

His neutrality façade will always get him in trouble.

by Anonymousreply 157December 7, 2019 3:04 AM

R157 He wasn't neutral. There was an article in which he questioned the purpose of the Synder cut and how he doubted how lucrative it could be. On top of that, during the JL filming, he pretty much jumped on the Whedon bandwagon.

R158 So being neutral indeed

by Anonymousreply 159December 7, 2019 7:53 AM

I wouldn't mind seeing Henry work with Whedon again.

by Anonymousreply 160December 7, 2019 8:42 AM

R159 Learn the definition of neutral. He clearly said that he doesn't see the movie being lucrative. Translation: He doesn't see the studio going in that direction if it doesn't make them money. It's shading Synder in that he's thinking it will bomb.

by Anonymousreply 161December 7, 2019 9:16 AM

Clearly you don't understand public neutrality. Missing some brain cells R161

by Anonymousreply 162December 7, 2019 4:45 PM

Nope, you tell me what it means.
