Are there any bands or singers that you regularly listen to that nobody likes anymore? I see a lot of CDs in the used bins of record stores that are in almost new condition by bands and singers that were once very popular. Albums by Alanis Morrisette, Blind Melon, The Indigo Girls, The Cranberries, and The Spin Doctors. I'm guessing that none of them have garnered classic status like say Nirvana, The Cars, or Madonna. One of my personal favorites that I listen to is Alice Donut
Musicians you like that nobody listens to anymore.

No one I know listens to Pet Shop Boys anymore, but I still keep up with them.
Although with all the albums, and remasters, and B-sides and remixes and special limited editions they put out it's a bit tough keeping up. It seems they're just about selling as many units as possible now.

I started a Pandora station months ago from Rubberband Girl by Kate Bush and listen to it for several hours a day at work. Lots of Bush of course, but a good smattering of Tori Amos, the Cocteau Twins, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Roxy Music. Usually I alternate between that station and a more mainstream new wave channel that’s very Morrissey/smiths-heavy, but that music is probably still pretty broadly listened to by Gen X.

Modern music is very generational. I’m a Gen-Xer but discovered performers like these in the early 90s, which is the era that dominates this thread.
I think because I’ve always listened to music a bit out of time, I’ve always known that most everything would end up being forgotten.
Listen to what you love and don’t lament the vague lonesomeness you feel as you feel the band or singer slipping into obscurity.
They’re all chalk marks in a rainstorm, to quote Joni Mitchell.

The The and The Church as mentioned above. I still also enjoy Prefab Sprout and Aztec Camera. Even more obscure is an English band called The Bible whose 1988 album Eureka is nearly perfect. I've listened to it from time to time for all these years and since I've got an Amazon Music "all you can eat" plan I've been revisiting a lot of old stuff from my youth. Yes almost all music I ever liked is still occasionally played chez moi. If the mood strikes, you will know that some one ditty can be hauled out again.
The only challenge is I make a point to keep up on new music in pop (English French and Arabic), dance, many kinds of electronic, opera, and "world" music, so the library is staggering and its hard for new stuff to break through my cognitive layers and stick.
