How did you not know?!
Here’s one of her greatest hits from DL fave Anne Hathaway’s breakout film.

Because I'm a young bitch, that's why. Also not an American, so some of these things slip through the cracks for me.
r1 Yes, I had no idea she was a singer up until the point I read that bit of information today. What part of that confuses you, exactly?

She was low on the totem pole of pop tartlettes. It was all about Britney and Christina with a side of Jessica Simpson. I do enjoy Candy though.

r2 Goofy song but that scene looks like so much fun, I just want to transport myself in there. The song at r4 is irredeemable garbage, though.

I always liked her simple pop songs but r4 is right. She never had near the success that they did. Seems to have had a lot more success as an actress.

I liked her singing/songs in A Walk to Remember.

A Walk To Remember is one of the better movies adapted from a Nicholas Sparks novel. And I still like Candy, In My Pocket and Wanna Be With You. But this one's my fave 👇

She actually started as a singer. Once she moved into movies, she stopped making music
Now that her movies are generally flops, she’s back!

Shes on a successful TV show now, though. Also she might be inspired to get back into music since marrying a musician recently.

Her character on the show is a singer (at least in the flashbacks.)

The song is not bad. It is contemporary, but isn't going after the teen market.
A friend of mine is a songwriter, and she worked with all those kids in the day; Britney, Christina, et al. She said Mandy was very insecure about her abilities, but was very sweet. And she was good; perhaps she just didn't like that the was forced to sing those silly songs. I remember a review in the NY Times of a concert she had in Joe's Pub, and they raved. They said her pitch was perfect, which surprised me. (And you all know she was married to Ryan Adams, non?)

R15 what did she say about Britney and Christina??
by Anonymous | reply 16 | September 19, 2019 4:04 AM |
R16. She worked with Christina even before she had a record deal -- she sang some demos for my friend -- and, even then, she was unpleasant. She said that Brittany was very sweet, but not terribly motivated. They would often end up shopping instead of working on music.

I think Mandy has said herself that she hates Candy.
I have to admit while I loathe covers albums, Mandy's is actually very good. She is a good singer.
It was probably a good thing her music career didn't really take off when she was younger because if it had, she probably would have been marketed like Britney Spears and look how that turned out.

R17 lol none of that surprises me. Thanks for answering.

R4 I honestly can’t believe they got away with that music video. It’s a little child porny.

Candy was co-written by Denise Rich, ex wife of Marc Rich, whom Clinton pardoned. I had dinner with Denise years ago -- we had friends in common -- and she could not have been sweeter. Like candy!

I just saw her perform this on Fallon last night - she was fantastic, and the song is really great. I've never really followed her career or music over the past 20 years, teen bubble gum pop isn't my thing - but this is a really mature track for her. I'm actually checking out the whole album as I type this, and I'm really impressed so far. Great easy listening, and she is actually singing and not just screaming out childish lyrics.
