Working Families Party Endorses Elizabeth Warren After Backing Bernie Sanders in 2016

[QUOTE]The party endorsed Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont during the last presidential cycle, at which time he described Working Families as “the closest thing” to “my vision of democratic socialism.”

Exactly - she is the best, most specific, realistic candidate to actually know what’s wrong and fix it. She has been studying this issue for decades and is an expert in the issue of income inequality and the impossibility of supporting kids on minimum wage.

by Anonymousreply 1September 16, 2019 4:27 PM

Well then Bernie better drop out because she can’t win the nomination with him in the race.

by Anonymousreply 2September 16, 2019 4:44 PM

We're berned out.

by Anonymousreply 3September 16, 2019 5:01 PM

I like Warren. I don't like Sanders. I like both their ideas.

by Anonymousreply 4September 16, 2019 5:08 PM

So she gets the title of "Socialist." There goes her nomination.

by Anonymousreply 5September 16, 2019 5:11 PM

The name "Working Families Party" sounds like a 1950's Communist front organization.

by Anonymousreply 6September 16, 2019 5:11 PM

Elizabeth is in New York today. Speaking in Washington Square Park at 7:00. The event will be seen on C-Span.

I can assure you that they’re not. This is a serious and important organization, and their endorsement of her over Bernie will be a boon for Liz.

R1 As long as she hammers home the issue of income inequality she will win.

by Anonymousreply 11September 16, 2019 5:31 PM

Warren specifically references a case involving Trump’s sister Maryanne Trump-Barry, whose retirement brought an abrupt end to an investigation into her role in various tax schemes of the family and potential fraud therein.

- what a family.

Warren is The One. Remember. Back in 2007 Hillary was leading in all the polls with 29% Obama was second with 22% at this point in time. We all know how 2008 turned out. I remain convinced that BErnie's support is not deep. And it may even be inflated. Faked. I know Biden benefits greatly from Bernie being in the race. Without Bernie, Elizabeth would be ahead of Biden.

by Anonymousreply 13September 16, 2019 5:55 PM

I like her, a lot. Much more than Bernout Sanders.

[QUOTE]The endorsement is bad news for Sanders, a democratic socialist who presents himself as a voice for the working class. Last month, he won a rare union endorsement from the United Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers of America. Sanders’ national political director, Analilia Mejia, was formerly the executive director of the New Jersey Working Families Alliance.

[QUOTE]Warren trounced Sanders in a vote of Working Family Party members, garnering 61 percent of the vote compared to Sanders’ 36 percent. Half of the participants in the vote were party leaders, the other half were members who registered their choice online. Some Sanders supporters were rankled that the party declined to release the individual tallies.

So now Putin's tools are backing Warren ?

by Anonymousreply 17September 16, 2019 7:19 PM

Love Bernie but I'm thrilled they went for Elizabeth this time. My father always said there will be a black president before there is a Jewish one and there will be a woman president before there will be a Jewish one and by so many posters here or one or two very persistent posters it is awful but I think my dad was right. I'm Jewish and it makes me sad to say this as it made my dad sad to say what he said, but I not only am really crazy about Elizabeth, I think she has a better chance to win than Bernie, but I still love him. He reminds me of all the NY'ers I grew up around of his generation. He sounds like them and he looks like them, not just the Jewish ones but the Italian ones and so many of the cab drivers that were around way back when.

by Anonymousreply 18September 16, 2019 8:58 PM

Warren-Pete would be the smartest team ever. Are we smart enough to see that?

by Anonymousreply 19September 17, 2019 3:44 PM

Warren and Pete is a dream ticket. Pete is so damned impressive. And he has a great temperament. But I believe this is not his time. He is definitely going to be President. I'm convinced of it. Just not in this cycle. I think the winning ticket this time is Elizabeth and Kamala.

by Anonymousreply 20September 17, 2019 3:52 PM

[quote] Warren and Pete is a dream ticket.

Unfortunately, that ticket would have no chance in the midwest, or in Florida and Arizona. The only thing that matters is winning the Electoral College and voters in those states don't like Warren.

by Anonymousreply 21September 17, 2019 3:57 PM

Anyone think Warren/Biden would work, although I doubt he would do it. I would love Warren/Pete but I'm not sure either it would be a winning ticket. Not Warren/Harris either. Two women will never work in a country like this. Who do most of you think Warren should pick should she win the primary. Maybe someone not even running now. I would say Warren/Clinton but even though I voted for her because what else could I do I don't trust a Clinton as far as I could throw one. Maybe Warren/Booker??? Nah. I do think Warren needs a person of color on the ticket with her but who?

by Anonymousreply 22September 17, 2019 6:53 PM

Bye Bernie, you old fraudulent FUCK FACE!

by Anonymousreply 23September 17, 2019 8:34 PM

That endorsement really hurt ol’ Bern.

[QUOTE]After a pair of setbacks this week — the acrimonious shakeup of his staff in New Hampshire on Sunday and loss of the Working Families Party's endorsement to Elizabeth Warren a day later — Sanders’ allies and former aides are worried that recent disappointments are not one-off stumbles but rather emblematic of larger problems in his bid for the White House. The concerns are particularly acute in New Hampshire.

[QUOTE]Seeing the campaign not be able to outshine Warren with WFP progressives doesn’t have me questioning WFP’s process,” said Rafael Shimunov, a former national creative director for WFP and 2016 Sanders volunteer. “It has me questioning where the Bernie campaign could have done better, because I want to make sure the strongest candidate unmasks Biden and unseats Trump.”

[QUOTE]The worries come as the campaign enters a critical, more urgent phase. After Labor Day, more voters typically tune in to an election and begin to make up their minds. Expectations for Sanders are sky-high, especially in New Hampshire, where he defeated Hillary Clinton in 2016 by 22 percentage points.

[QUOTE]But Warren has jumped in the national polls to tie Sanders for second place, and Joe Biden has proved harder to knock off his first-place perch than his rivals expected.

by Anonymousreply 25September 18, 2019 1:20 AM

[quote] So now Putin's tools are backing Warren?

Yep.

by Anonymousreply 26September 18, 2019 1:21 AM

This was a rigged vote. 50 “leaders” got as big a share of the vote as thousands of “members”. The leadership won’t release the total vote breakdown. It smells like week old fish.

by Anonymousreply 27September 18, 2019 1:31 AM

You’re a Bernie supporter, I take it?

by Anonymousreply 28September 18, 2019 2:13 AM

They claim all members, paying and non paying, could vote and 61% voted for Warren. I don't want anyone cheating Bernie. He was cheated enough by the DNC in 2016 so I hope this is on the up and up and Warren really did win. I want her to get it fair and square. I want her to be the candidate, but not by cheating Bernie whom I love too.

by Anonymousreply 29September 18, 2019 2:17 AM

[QUOTE]Some prominent backers of Sanders have loudly protested the latest endorsement.

[QUOTE]Two top editors of socialist magazine Jacobin wrote an article Tuesday titled “The Working Families Party Has Written Itself Out of History.”

[QUOTE]“If the WFP views bottom-up organizing, of and by a multiracial working class, as a core necessity to win social change, why would the party endorse Warren, whose campaign has catalyzed neither — especially over Sanders, whose campaign has?” the magazine’s founder and managing editor wrote.

[QUOTE]They also speculated that the organization has “something to hide,” writing that “members were likely divided between Warren and Sanders.”

R29 that 61% is the total. 50 people accounted for 50% of the vote and the thousands of members counted for 50%. They used a “superdelegate” system. They refuse to release the breakdown because it’s clear Bernie got the majority of the people’s vote and that the leaders simply chose Warren. This is also the organization that endorsed Crowley over AOC. I have increasing suspicion that team Clinton has their tentacles all over this & Warrens campaign in general. Hillary loathes Bernie.

by Anonymousreply 31September 18, 2019 2:32 AM

😂 Of course. What’s a political conspiracy without the Clintons?

by Anonymousreply 32September 18, 2019 2:34 AM

It’s proven that Hillary rigged the 2016 primary in her favor with DWS. If she wasn’t so fucking corrupt people wouldn’t bring her up all the time.

by Anonymousreply 33September 18, 2019 2:41 AM

R29 Bernie was never cheated by the DNC. If he wants an equal seat at the table he's welcome to join the Democratic Party instead of riding our coattails when it's convenient for him while at the same time shitting on Dems to gain radical lefty points with his base. He purposely creates rifts in the progressive left wing for egotistical satisfaction. He caucuses with the Dems but he's true to no one but his own self. He's a rabble rouser just for the sake of it and a spoiler at heart. He ironically has a lot in common with tRump.

Spurn the Bern.

by Anonymousreply 34September 18, 2019 3:36 AM

Tad Devine, Jeff Weaver, et al, hacked the DNC database, remember?

by Anonymousreply 35September 18, 2019 12:39 PM

Yeah, remember that two entities hacked the Clinton campaign. The second one was Russia and the first one was the Bernie Sanders campaign! Why does he never whine about that!?

by Anonymousreply 36September 20, 2019 5:52 AM

She's fine. I prefer Biden but she's fine if that's the way it goes.

by Anonymousreply 37September 20, 2019 5:57 AM

R33, the only people who bring up Hillary all the time are trump and the trumtardians.

Try to drag yourself into the present, hon.

by Anonymousreply 38September 20, 2019 5:58 AM

[QUOTE] An official at the Working Families Party (WFP) said Friday that he — and many of his fellow staffers — have faced a deluge of violent, racist, and sexist attacks following the progressive group’s endorsement of Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.).

[QUOTE]“There’s been good faith debate and conversations on the Internet — and I’m here for all of it,” Maurice Mitchell, National Director of the Working Families Party, told Hill.TV. “Public leadership is about public accountability and engaging in those conversations.”

[QUOTE]“Also, there has been some of the most violent, disgusting, racist and sexist attacks against myself, against Nelini Stamp — another leader in our party — and many, many of our staff people, every day working people who are trying to make this world better and that’s unacceptable,” he added.

The BernieBros show their TRUE colors, r39.

by Anonymousreply 40September 20, 2019 6:01 PM

WFP seems to be a largely African-American organization, so that doubles their importance. If Liz is the candidate who can cut into Biden’s share of the black vote, it’s game over for Bernie.

by Anonymousreply 41September 20, 2019 6:15 PM

^^^r41 let's hope Warren can cut into Biden's lead with the AA community. Biden will not be able to sustain the withering and undignified attacks that tRump will unleash. Biden is too old and too much of a kind but bumbling lovable uncle that will shrivel under tRump's low rent trash talk.

And Bernie is dead to me.

by Anonymousreply 42September 20, 2019 6:58 PM

Joe Biden can be as vicious as they come, R42. He’s not going to wither under Trump attacks any more than he’s withered under the mainstream media’s sustained anti-Biden onslaught that started before he even announced.

by Anonymousreply 43September 20, 2019 9:49 PM

The WFP changed its entire voting process, creating a caste of superdelegates and giving tyhem 50% of the vote. It's also refusing to release its voter tallies. That's how Warren had her victory.
