I am actually not minding the Boston Rob/Sandra island sections as much as I thought. They were pretty subdued. I wonder how much they're getting paid just to participate?

Well they won't all end up there R66. The next one to go is from the other tribe. She and whoever goes next from her tribe may have reason to form a bond or alliance? In the meantime people are getting voted off. Why do they need to know? She did the right thing by not telling anyone. There's nothing to be gained from sharing that information at this point. And Rob and Sandra are unlikely to stay on that island for 39 days. Who knows what twists are to come?

The Rob and Sandra gimmick is pretty stupid. If it's so easy to learn to make fire - then why have 39 seasons made such a big deal of it? Their tutelage is going to be weak, because they need cue cards to form sentences. They're just going to drag the season down IMO.

The twist sucks. What if you didn’t know who rob and Sandra were? With this twist, the producers would just lie and make you pretend you did. It’s almost getting completely scripted like Big Brother.

I'm enjoying the season so far.

I love that Karishma survived another day. She's my pick for Final 3, lol.

This season I am watching my dvr'd episode, but first I look on Wikipedia to see who was voted off and by how many votes, and then I can enjoy the show in a different way, knowing in advance who's head will roll.

I'm also enjoying Rob and Sandra, they are on for just the right amount of time and I enjoy hearing their comments at tribal Council

My original thought was Sandra/Rob would be Survivor's jump the shark moment. Like others, I'm pleasantly surprised by their inclusion. It's not over the top, they aren't overly preachy/cocky and it's that much less of Probst. Maybe that was the idea. Less Jeff. It's a decent season so far.

This is the first time since season 1 I was viscerally disgusted by the show. Back then, it was because I couldn't believe a show would celebrate people lying and backstabbing each other. The girls' "game play" last night brought me back to season 1 and the sickening realization of what people will do to each other for money and fame. Jamal's speech was wonderful but it was completely undercut by what we'd just seen transpire on screen. Ugh.

I was surprised to see that there was already a jury member before the merge. Am I misremembering that previously the jurors consisted solely of the post-merge tribe?

There have been a few other seasons when a jury member was selected before the merge.

In season 5 - Thailand, on juror was selected prior to the merge. In season 13 - Cook Islands, there were three jury members selected before the merge. However, this was the season that started with four tribes divided by race. So there was an earlier merge where the four were merged into two, and then a later merge of the two into one. The three jurors were selected prior to the final merge. In season 14 - Fiji, two jurors were selected prior to the merge. In season 17 - Gabon, one juror was selected pre-merge. In season 20 - Heroes vs. Villains, two jurors were selected pre-merge.

It doesn't seem really fair for there to be a juror who hasn't met all of the remaining players.

What a very strange season this has turned out to be.

Second day after evictions and still no interviews with Kellee and Jamal. Whoever was talking about possible lawsuits is probably right.

I don't think they expected this much backlash either and suspect Kellee and Jamal could potentially fan the flames of that even more in interviews, so just canceled them.

Karishma or Noura winning this bizarre, hot mess of a season would give it the WTF exclamation point it deserves.

R247 I wouldn't mind either of them winning at the point. It would be great if Janet did, but it seems like an extreme long shot, because it seems as if Missy and Elizabeth's lies have turned the rest of the players against her.

Imagine the outrage if either Missy and Elizabeth won. I actually wouldn't be surprised if Missy won. She's been playing hard, has been shown quite a bit, and had a good edit overall so far.

I wouldn't count out Elaine either. She's gotten a good edit, and other players have stressed she's so likable she could win if she got to the end.

I think this season will be ranked near the bottom regardless of who wins though. The sheer vileness of this weeks episode have further tainted a below average season.

Missy and Elizabeth's apologies on Twitter are really, really similar, so similar that they're suspect. It's the CBS PR machine at work. If Survivor was trying to capture the momentum of the MeToo movement by highlighting this story line, it failed. Feels like Survivor has jumped the shark this season.

I was shocked to learn that Dan has a wife. I swear he said he was gay in the 1st or 2nd episode. Regardless, he's obnoxious and needs to develop a sense of personal space and boundaries.

At this point, I don't have a favorite player. I suppose the tall, red-haired 4th grade teacher - if he becomes a better strategic player in the remaining episodes - could earn a win, but none of the other players deserve a million dollars.

So the interviews are finally up. Kellee did the interview with Parade via email only, whatever the implication of that means. Her answers seem somewhat muted and coached, IMO.

I agree with him. We saw a compilation of clips that had been edited and narrated to create a story arc. We saw all the perspectives of all those involved as the producers wished us to see them. We saw only brief clips of what was apparently a very long Tribal Council with the clips we saw chosen for a reason. We saw a heavily produced edit of a complex situation. Those involved did not have the benefit of what we saw and they were further impacted by the nature of the game. Dan is responsible for this actions but I think the responses, reactions and actions of the rest of the cast about the situation should be understood within the reality of the context and the carefully crafted story we have been told.

Tonight's episode almost made up for last weeks repulsive episode.

I don’t know how some of you remember details from prior seasons like r238. I’ve watched the past 20 or so seasons and they’ve all a blur. I don’t even remember last season.

In all honesty R274, I had to look it all up in Wikipedia.

Some brilliant moves. The two most likely to be voted out manipulated the 2 strongest players out. But the survivor producers keep helping them along. I mean why not just show the producers handing everyone an immunity idol? And split the tribe in two?

I think we will see a new edit for Karishma. I get the feeling she will win. Everyone wants to take her and now that Missy is gone she can start trying to control the game.

R269, I thought Survivor producers controlled when contestants did their post-boot interviews and they were mandatory? Does this mean they refused to do all of the other interviews (XFinity, Parade)?

I think this blew up in way Survivor producers weren't expecting, and they are indeed the ones that are keeping lid on contestants.

Missy telling Elizabeth to "kill Elaine" or something to that effect when Missy was voted out just was the start to what I thought would be a noisy exit. I like Elaine, she seems like a very cool lady, and I like Janet too. Noura's a character, probably kind of annoying to spend a lot of time with, but not nasty like Elizabeth and Missy are. Aaron thought he owned the game because of his muscles and was brought down some when he lost a challenge that depended more on balance and concentration. I think Karishma isn't getting the best edit -- or perhaps it is an edit of someone who is bullied and that people misjudge as being weak who finally redeems herself and her game by proving she's smarter than she is being presented. I thought she handled Missy pretty well in this episode by first dismissing her when Missy wanted to manipulate her, then appearing to mollify Missy and agreeing to let Missy appear to place the target on her at tribal council. Of course, then Karishma voted against Missy. Plus Karishma didn't play her idol when she learned that talk of who to vote out wasn't about her. If the others think she is good to take to final, she can relate the story of how she played Missy and got her voted out. So she might not be the goat others think she is.

Actually I hated Karishma in the beginning but am coming around to rooting for her. Maybe because has been aligned with Janet and in opposition to Missy (who emerged rather unexpectedly as one of the season’s villains). I don’t see anyone voting on her to win but she might make F3.

It was interesting how they all confessed to Missy that they voted for her, just prior to her getting her torch snuffed out.

In his Email interview, when asked to describe each player in a few words, Jamal was interesting as always. He had one word to describe Missy: Cutthroat.

I like Missy's confidence and strength - but she was way too aggressive a player. She, Dan, Elizabeth and Aaron might have made it to the end based on strength and coldplay. But the "incident" kind of blew up their game. I'm glad that Elizabeth and Dan haven't a chance in hell of winning this game now. If you read between the lines of Jamal and Kellee's interviews - the story hasn't all been told yet. Don't expect Dan at the reunion.

Since he didn't have the context, his comments seemed out of place since the viewers had context. Lauren was completely right to play it once Karishma played the big one. Why go home from a stray bullet?

Noura, Karishma and Lauren's endgame capital just increased by a lot. Elaine's blind loyalty if it's for real won't take her to the end. She's too well liked. Karishma is not in a better position in the alliance, but the alliance is going to have to break up. There are 8 left. He was a really rich kid from an affluent neighborhood and ended up being only one of 4 white kids at his school and that high school was very difficult due to the race and SES differences between him and his peers and how he was viewed and treated. He was talking about how it made him able to get along with anyone and how he is kind of a chameleon, changing who he is to adapt to whose around him. He went to Columbia, played basketball there, majored in education, became a math teacher (a bond he shares with Tommy) and then went into tech sales working for Google. I think he is smarter than the lets on. When Jamal was asked to play word association during his exit interview and use one word to describe each cast member, he said 'philosophical' for Dean. That isn't the story arc or edit Dean has been given in the show.

It sounded like he worked really hard and was really well liked on the team and was good but just not tall enough to be a key player. I think he said he is 5'10.

I think it was a risky move for sure but he must have looked at all his options, all his relationships, the dynamics between people and decided this would get him farther in the game. Jury management is important but you first have to get to the final three for jury management to even matter. The only goal of survivor is to win so the longer you stay in the game - however that is, the better your chances. Staying in the game is hard, you can get voted out for too strong a social game, too much strategy, too much strength and athleticism, too much of pretty much anything.

They all get excited, not sure why the host is suddenly at their camp. Jeff announces that Dan is out of the game/will not be back, and the rest of the players react in shock. The screen goes black and a title card says that Dan was removed off camera for an incident that DID NOT involve another player and had nothing to do with his earlier incidents (of touching the female players). Interesting.

Sexual misconduct. Dan was warned and got caught several more times. He is out.

Make no mistake the dude is a super creep. Kellee is a hero in this situation. And she will prove to be more of one as time goes by. The game is kind of pointless at this time, because most all decisions and outcomes are called into question. Dan should have been removed the FIRST time he was reported. It's not an innocuous thing that he wasn't taken out of the game until the complaint came from a crew/production member. These women were ignored. All decisions he participated in are suspect. I think we forget what a sense of deprivation they all feel. Kellee risked her game and she did get voted off with 2 idols. She was going after Missy, so she hadn't given up game play herself. But because she spoke up AND CBS aired the footage knowing outcomes, she's made more than a million dollars all ready. Only one person wins the show. But others win in more important ways. And it's already been 'revealed' that it was another contestant who backed up the claim made by a production staff member. So the odds are high that little scene of Jeff's arriving and taking everyone by surprise was staged. I don't really care, it's reality TV. Even all the statements by Missy and Elizabeth and Aaron after the first incident are suspect now - because obviously they knew what was still to come. Kellee told the other women not to get Dan out but to let them know she felt this way and the older woman she felt protective and reassured her she would make sure it didn't happen. the others she told shook their head and said oh yeah us too, making Kelle fell less alone. It was never for game she ever suggested they get Dan out, that was the other shady bitched who decided to use her feelings of harassment to get her to believe they were all going to vote out Dan. Kellee was targeting Elaine in the game, the other women came to her using a false solidarity moment to make it look like they were going to get Dan out to support her, then fucked her over.

It is so hard to know what really happened since the editors and producers can decide what to show and how to build story arcs that suit their narrative. When Kellee spoke to the producer about the unwanted touch to her hair, it didn't seem the producer was aware of Dan already being an issue. Kellee also at that time said she didn't want them to do anything. It also seems all the other women ended up saying they were no more bothered by Dan's touch than by any other contestant's touch. Janet also seemed very caught off guard and wasn't aware either. I think it would have been difficult to remove him from the game at that time. I assume they did review tapes to see what kind of touch had been happening and didn't see anything that made them think they needed to pull him out.

It is also possible that once Missy, Elizabeth and Kellee were all at Ponderosa that they did talk about this again and maybe Missy and Elizabeth did end up saying he made them uncomfortable and so there was more support or evidence. They may have continued to go through footage and maybe they did see more. Then with the last incident - whatever it was, they decided to pull him out. They must have felt they had enough by then to know that there would be serious backlash if they didn't get him out before the finale or final 3. Their legal team would also have been consulted to be sure they had enough evidence to support this as removing someone for sexual harassment is not a light claim or similar in any way to a medical evacuation. There was also no precedent. They have never removed a player before due to their behavior and there had been reports of some pretty bad behavior in past seasons.

It will be interesting to see how this all plays out in the end. I am sure they are very glad that Season 40 is all returning players so they know all the players well. They are starting it early - it airs Feb 12 - I think in a hope to get people onto a new season as quickly as possible so this one can fade out.

r522 exactly if you tell someone "these are my boundaries, please don't cross them" and they agree then just continue on, there is a problem. Everyone was commenting on how inappropriate Dan was at the start, Kellee was just more vocal about feeling violated. The fact he was told, in public, on TV that it was him, it was a problem and he continued to do it off camera with a producer means there is a problem.

I suspect Tommy is the winner. He gotten a fairly good edit consistent with someone who played a low key game and wasn't really interesting enough to be given a lot of screen time.

I think Janet could win if she made it to the end. I don't see anyone wanting to take her though and her winning the needed immunity challenges to get to the end. If it wasn't sexual harassment - then they can just speak of their experience. If they have a bigger case, they may want to stay away. They do get paid in more ways than one. Survivor is not normal reality TV - it is a tough gig. But they all still want to be invited to the Golden Globes. Crazy. Lots of assholes have won. I'm not a fan of Dean but it would seem unfair that anyone couldn't use an advantage or nullifier with a restriction on number of players just because a player was suddenly removed from the game by producers, especially when the holder may have specifically saved it and timed it for that purpose. It seems pretty much the entire cast, other than Kellee, is supportive of Dan. That tells me we haven't seen the whole story. I am sure more will come out once the finale airs. There is a lot of physical contact on Survivor and most of it happens without explicit consent. I am still not sure how much the editing / producing / creating a character and story arc is at play here versus reality of what happened on the show.

I wonder if this is the end of any competition where physical contact happens. It isn't possible in a competition to know if each touch would be welcome or unwelcome if touch is part of the game.
