So, When Did Fans Become Such A Fad? Did I Miss Something?
Okay...
I know that fans have been around forever. I also know that they have been a part of the gay community forever--especially within the drag and ball culture. BUT, I have NEVER seen so many people with fans as I am seeing now! When did this become such the "IN" accessory and fad?
Everywhere I go now I hear the "CLACK" and the breadth of a fan opening. People seem to use them as a toy but one can easily see that they love how this accessory makes them feel and how stylish it makes them look. HECK! Now, I'm thinking about getting a few fans for myself!

[quote]I do declah!
EXACTLY! When did this happen? It resonated with me at this year's PRIDE parade in NYC! EVERYWHERE fans and clacking, clacking and fans! I think I was only one of a few who did not have a fan. THEN, a friend of mine had an outdoor party and about 3 men (out of the 15 that were there) had these big and very elaborate fans that they clacked and waved all night with. Strange... no, rather interesting...

I went to see Hamilton on Broadway, and a large transgender woman popped her fan open and started fanning away mid-show. Her phone also went off as Hamilton's son was dying. Livid.

Those fucking clacking fans are as annoying as hell. They were all over the place during Pride month. Then everyone realized this silly affectation was irritating, maddening, and tiresome.

Who are We?
Clack That Fan is an LGBTQ+ owned and operated bootstrapped startup based in Washington DC. We are committed to providing high quality and unique bamboo ribbed fans as well as other battle tested club gear/accessories for all of your dancing, performance and fashion needs.
We are constantly striving to not only improve our products but to design and engineer new and innovative products for your clubbing needs.
Our Origin Story
CTF was born when our founder broke 3 plastic fans he bought online in 2 days. He sought to buy bamboo fans to replace his plastic ones but was unable to find any with designs he was proud of. After nearly a year of searching for factories that could print and make high quality fans, CTF went live in January 2018.
Giving Back To Our Community
As most of the CTF team is DC based, political activism is a big part of what we do. We release specific fan designs that help us to raise funds to support causes and nonprofits such as HIV/AIDs research, Hurricane Relief for Puerto Rico and the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington DC.
We are humbled to be able to make a difference and play our part in keep our community strong, vibrant, inclusive and unapologetically proud to be who they are and want to be.
We hope that you enjoy our products as much as we do! Share your pictures with us on Facebook or Instagram by tagging us or #ClackThatFan.

It’s because of that drag queen Katya on the YouTube show with Trixie Mattel. It filtered through the drag race bar events and then exploded from there.
My husband is Asian (from the motherland) and can work a fan like nobody’s business. But he fucking HATES the sound and the clacking at Pride. He actually will carry one in his bag and use it unironically as society intended it nowadays.
He’s getting older and doesn’t give a fuck that it makes one look trés homosexuale if you aren’t a black church lady or in Asia. It definitely fucking helps on those hot ass days.

gays started twirling fans after they realized that it was much easier than twirling flags, as they did do at every Pride parade.

Fans were popular 50-plus years ago in modest churchs down south that hadn't acquired air conditioning yet. Beyond that, seeing such elsewhere would be rare.
