About to launch in a couple of months
It's Marvel, Star Wars, and Disney movies? Why would I subscribe to something like that when there are no children in my house? Give me a good Netflix/Amazon/Hulu comedy or drama any day of the week.

Netflix is quaking in its boots because surveys show a significant Percentage of folks plan to cancel a current streaming service so that they can add Disney+
by Anonymous | reply 11 | August 31, 2019 6:46 PM |
Netflix, HBO and Amazon Prime are all bracing themselves for an incoming storm. That storm is Disney Plus, an upcoming streaming that’s sure to shake the market. Launching 12 Nov in the U.S., Disney’s take on Netflix launches with a massive catalogue of films and channels, at a competitive price that’s sure to tempt you into cancelling your other accounts.
Unfortunately, Disney+ arrives as an unwelcome latecomer into a market that’s well saturated. We already have subscriptions to HBO, Netflix and Prime – do we really need Disney+ gate-crashing into the mix?
by Anonymous | reply 12 | August 31, 2019 6:50 PM |
[quote]Unfortunately, Disney+ arrives as an unwelcome latecomer into a market that’s well saturated.
At least Disney Plus makes sense as a business. They have a big catalog of content and a lot of IP that people are interested in.
It is Apple TV that is utterly bizarre. Are they really expecting people to add another streaming service to watching The Morning Show?!

Why would you want to have a subscription to something like this? There's no diversity. At least Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon have a wide variety of choices. As far as movies go, Amazon has everyone beat. You can find a lot of great older movies on there.

r8 You should buy more Disney stock, it's a more solid stock than Netflix. Disney is bundling it's Disney+ with Hulu+ and ESPN+ for the same price as Netflix, it will be hard for Netflix to compete.

shares of Walt Disney Co (NYSE:DIS) are trading higher today following positive results from a recent survey regarding the entertainment powerhouse's Disney+ streaming service. Specifically, the projections for the number of U.S. households that plan to subscribe to Disney+ looks to be more than double what the company previously expected, per a recent UBS survey.
Disney projected 20% to 30% of broadband households would sign up for Disney+ by 2024, while the survey indicated up to 43% of consumers intend to subscribe. In response, DIS is up 0.9% at $137.80, at last check.
DIS has charged up the charts in 2019, so far having added 26%, with recent support emerging at the 120-day moving average. The shares saw an impressive streaming-related bull gap back in April, which paved the way to the stock's July 29 record high of $147.15.
At least one options trader today is betting on even more upside for the Dow stock in the near term. Amid accelerated activity -- the 20,000 calls on the tape so far is 1.5 times what's typically seen at this point -- a 1,000-contract block of weekly 9/13 140-strike calls was bought to open for $140,000 (number of contracts * $1.40 premium paid * 100 shares per contract).
This is the most the call buyer stands to lose, should DIS settle below $140 at the close on Friday, Sept. 13. Profit, meanwhile, will accumulate on a move above breakeven at $141.40 (strike plus premium paid).

Disney is in trouble. Every story their company is selling is built on nostalgia. The comic book and fairytale stories get repetitive after a while. I bet it's four years until Disney "retells" the Infinity Gauntlet story and recycles that boring crap. People want fresh all the time. Disney+ at 7 bucks seems like a bit much.

Disney ruined Pixar. Disney ruined Star Wars. Disney will ruin Marvel. It's only a matter of time. It's evident with that horrible Captain Marvel movie and not coming to an agreement with the Spiderman ppl to share the character. Disney aint mining the next new idea, they ain't innovating. They're Only marketing old shit.

The constant live action remakes are getting stale.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | September 1, 2019 3:50 AM |
There will be a backlash eventually to all the rebooted, live action versions of old Disney cartoons. They're bland and unimaginative. If they actually retold the stories in surprising or interesting ways, it'd be one thing, but they don't. Most of them look exactly like the animated versions except with real people. There's usually so much CGI it might as well be animated.
I give them, at most, another 5 years before people revolt and stop going to see them. Everything phases out eventually. Remember when little Asian looking ghost girls with long hair were big for 4/5 years and then torture porn was big and then Jennifer Lawrence was big for a while, etc.

I mean it's Disney, one thing they know how to do is make money. It's a bit scary seeing them become bigger and bigger.
But the initial price of $7 is coming for blood to get people on board, I wonder how long they will keep it that low. Realistically they need it to be priced at double that.

I got three years for 150 bucks - got it because of the marvel/disney movie access as well as Hulu and ESPN. I am paying 3.66 a month for it (150 up front) - we shall see if I keep it.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | September 1, 2019 2:23 PM |
That price is for 3 years of Disney+, it costs more to bundle it with Hulu and ESPN r37.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | September 1, 2019 2:26 PM |
There's too much to watch already. I have Amazon Prime (which I'd keep even if there were no video just for the other benefits), Hulu, Spotify Premium, AND cable TV. I can't see any reason to pay extra for Disney+ -- or CBS All Access, for that mattter.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | September 1, 2019 6:21 PM |

Disney is awful at releasing catalogue titles on blu ray, usually releasing older titles as exclusives, so this is a good option for me. Plus I'm looking forward to the Marvel shows, Love Simon, and all their 90s reboots. Got the 3 year plan mainly to lock in the price before it goes up.

The House of Mouse’s campaign to conquer subscription services presents another storm in the filmmaking business. Powerful studios like Marvel and Fox have already been gobbled up by Disney. With Netflix’s viewership dwindling, it looks like Disney+ could really be giving it a run for its money.
Disney could make a huge chunk of money and gain even more control over studios and upcoming films and projects – all made with Disney’s brand of filmmaking.

Unfortunately, I will feel like I have to. I love the MCU and the new TV shows that will be exclusive to Disney+ are going to tie-in to the MCU movies, so if I don't see them I'll feel like I'm missing out. Plus I love the characters (except Hawkeye).
It's irritating having to subscribe to multiple streaming platforms and only want to watch a couple of things on each though. Feels like the bubble with it is going to burst before too long as people will just be fed up of the cost and inconvenience of switching around. I would prefer a pay as you watch model where you only pay for the content you actually want as opposed to the entire catalogue of a service.

This week HarrisX released a new survey that looked at Disney+. According to this survey, 21% of American households intend to signup for Disney+. This is a huge jump over the 11% who said they plan to get HBO Max, and 10% who said they would get NBC’s new Peacock streaming service.
Most American’s said the main reason to get Disney+ was the library of movies the services offers followed by the cost, and the original content Disney+ would offer.
Of those interested in HBO Max, 25% said the overall content is their main reason to get the service. The original content was a close second followed by the cost of the service (we still do not have an official price for the service).
For NBC’s Peacock services, the results were similar with 21% saying the library of content would get them to signup, and 18% saying the original program most attracted them to the service with the cost in last place at 17% (we still do not know the cost of NBC’s Peacock service).
Now the question is will people pull the trigger? If 21% of American households do signup for Disney+ that would give Disney a huge starting base to build their service on. For now, we will have to wait and see what really happens when Disney+, HBO Max, and Peacock launch over the next year.

So, how soon do you think they skyrocket the price for Disney+ after they sign all these people up initially? A year? Or, do you think they'll just sever the package with Hulu and ESPN? Since they are selling those three year sign up deals I assume they have to contractually keep the package the same during that time? No?
How do these people in the industry not understand that creating all these separate streaming services is going to piss people off and just thin out the audience to the point that none of the streaming services will be profitable enough to survive without buying each other out. You'd think at least some of them would be more forward thinking.

A recent survey by High Speed Internet asked 400 Americans about their streaming habits, with a focus on the upcoming Disney+. The survey shows that 2/3 of Americans say they plan to subscribe to Disney+ when the streaming service launches on November 12.
When it comes to choosing the right streaming service among all of the options available, 60% say they would choose Netflix over Disney+ if they had to make the decision to keep just one. That said, 63% say they won’t cancel their current streaming subscription when Disney+ launches.
Why are people choosing Disney? According to the survey, 60% say Marvel and Star Wars content are making them consider Disney+.
It’s not surprisingly to see so many interested in the service. After getting a look at all of the content available to those trying Disney+ out in The Netherlands, we know that we’ll be seeing an incredible content library at launch. That library, combined with the original shows and movies being developed will give subscribers plenty of reasons to sign up.
Disney+ will launch on November 12 and will cost $6.99/month or $69.99/year.

How does spending billions on new content for a streaming service make sense financially? People who are already interested in Disney content will have enough content to last them a lifetime and those who aren't are unlikely to subscribe to watch one or two new shows or movies. Even if they do, they can simply cancel their subscription at any time. It doesn't seem like a good return on investment, spending so much on ad free content. This doesn't even factor in all the lost revenue from DVD and digital sales. And people will be less likely to go to the theater if they know they can see the movie for free just a few months later. The whole business model doesn't make sense and just like with Spotify, I bet a lot of content creators will be getting screwed.

R119 :
Verizon has now commented that the offer is available for those who have preordered their subscription. Customers who have already preordered their Disney+ subscription will have that subscription paused while enjoying the free year from Verizon. After the free year, the subscriptions will pick back up through Disney.
This means that Verizon customers who took advantage of the three year prepay deal with Disney+ will receive one free year, followed by the three prepaid years, then will continue with a normal subscription.

Had they included an admission to Club 33 in Disneyland®, we might have considered it . . .

I just found out about the free Verizon trial and signed up for that. The amount of content they have is overwhelming. I downloaded the app to my PS4 and have been browsing through there. I had a hard time setting it up due to server issues, but it started working not long after and has been streaming wonderfully. The HD content looks pristine and everything's loading rather quickly save for the few times the video had to stop to buffer.

The only streaming service I've ever subscribed to was Broadway HD.

R125 It may be just a little too soon to be binging on Christmas movies. I'll probably get to it before the end of the month.

R127 If you're really dying to see it, you could just get the free trial.

[quote] Presumably they're going to end up with a lot of ABC and Fox programming that they'll yank from Hulu.
R55 You forget Disney owns Hulu. Disney+ is for their family friendly fare and Hulu for their more adult fare.

I love it. I just watched Bedknobs and Broomsticks.

Disney + sucks. Only watched cuz Verizon is linked to the app. A bunch of unnecessary hype associated with it.

No I've never liked Disney even when I was a kid.

They crop the Simpsons.

R134 Are they really cropping them? Remember, the show is old and started in 4:3 SD not modern widescreen HD.

There’s enough complaining online about The Simpsons that I’m sure they’ll eventually have them in the correct aspect ratio.
I’m kind of loving watching things like The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes.

I'm disappointed that they dont have Song Of The South. It's a classic and deserves to be seen.

Of surveyed respondents, 76% gave Disney Plus a 4 or 5 out of 5 when asked to rank their satisfaction with the service, with 0 being “very dissatisfied” and 5 being “very satisfied.” Meanwhile, this figure was just 48% for Apple TV Plus. Only respondents who had indicated they had used the services were asked to rank them.

I have both Disney Plus and Apple TV Plus.
Disney Plus is -- surprisingly fun. I actually watch it more than Netflix. It's pretty much every show or movie I grew up watching. Once they have more original content it's going to be even more fun. I too would give it a "4 or 5 out of 5."
Apple TV Plus -- seems like there's not much there. If you dig around you might find a show they barely bothered to promote. I finished watching Dickinson, Truth Be Told and The Servant. The problem is, neither of those were promoted. It was all, "The Morning Show" all the time for the most part.
