Tell Us Your Recurring Dreams

The one I probably have the most is it is near the end of the semester at college and I realize I haven't been to a certain class for the entire term and I am wondering if I will graduate.

by Anonymousreply 21August 22, 2019 2:48 PM

Ha, I came here to post that recurring dream of mine, OP, and you did. And I haven't been in a classroom in nearly 20 years.

by Anonymousreply 1August 21, 2019 2:40 PM

I have a recurring dream that I enter a public bathroom and there are no toilets or urinals, just sinks and overflowing bath tubs. And I have to go BAD. And don't ask why don't I use the sink, the dream won't allow me to. I've had this dream for decades.

For years after leaving New York, I had a recurring dream that took place in the Union Square subway station, my express stop when I left. I would always have to fly to reach my train, because every set of steps tapered to nothingness, and looked like something in an Escher print.

There was another version that featured subterranean levels of express trains which I needed to get to, but could not. I could only see them.

In a third recurring subway dream, I would end up getting off at some stop that was neither Union Square nor Astor Place (my local stop), and having to walk the rest of the way, sometimes from elevated stations in Brooklyn or Queens (Brooklyn was still "scary place" when I left New York.

I have one where it the last day of vacation in a rented house and it is the last hour before the designated check-out time and the place is still full of all our stuff. Weird one!

I have the same dream, OP. Only for me it's worrying about not graduating high school, even though I did with good grades. I wonder what this dream means...

Mine is in a huge Las Vegas casino and I'm there for a conference. I can't find the room for the next session and I just walk around and around, panicking because my boss is in the same session and wondering where I am. I've even ended up outside in a huge parking lot just walking and panicking, walking and panicking...

R4 I too have had recurring subway dreams. In one I am paralyzed on my back on the subway platform as the train comes in. Even though I am not on the tracks I'm still freaking out and curl up into a fetal position as it arrives. In another I'm on the escalator and the escalator keeps grabbing and eating my toes. These dreams started when I was a child and went on for many years.

As a child I dreamed like everyone else that I went to school naked. Unlike most everyone, I also dreamed I went to school with Clearasil all over my face.

I have a lovely dream where I’m embracing my grandparents from my father’s side of he family. My grandfather died in 1975 and my grandmother died in 1990.

A similar college dream I have is that I am wandering around on campus as other students are moving purposefully around me, and I don't know my schedule or where I am supposed to go next.

In Madrid the subway can be fun!

I have a recurring location that has evolved over time as I grew up. The location doesn’t exist irl. It’s a shopping mall. I’ve had a few other recurring locations but this one I’ve had most often. Haven’t been to this dream mall in a while so must be over due. I think last time some of the shops had closed so will be interesting to me what’s happened in the mean time.

Op. I have had a very similar version of your recurring dream.

by Anonymousreply 13August 22, 2019 10:49 AM

Like r12 , I have a same locale recurring dream, and it evolves and expands. I know the streets and terrain very well - I've " lived" in several different houses, Victorian, Edwardian, Mid Century modern -- I walk everywhere, although drove around the flat lands south of the town thats being developed.....lol im always working on the victorian roof issues.... I always wonder if I will come across this town in real life, and blow my mind..

Dream 2 is I am catering a wedding at 7pm, and its noon, and I have done nothing to prepare - so I'm at the supermarket pushing a cart around like a wild man, trying to figure out a menu.....

I've had many dreams involving babies or pets where I'm in charge of their care, but I forget about them entirely for long periods of time. Then I remember I'm supposed to be taking care of them and I start to panic. The rest of the dream is me trying to get home to them or searching frantically for where I left them.

I dream that I find a huge batch of GAP In-Store Playlists from 1992 through 1995 and I'm overjoyed.

Once or twice a year I dream about getting friendly with my high school crush. Whenever we are about to make out, I wake up.

by Anonymousreply 17August 22, 2019 11:32 AM

I have the teacher's version of OP's dream. It is the last week of the semester and I realize that I haven't met with one assigned class once. I have to squeeze a whole semester into one week which I am willing to do. Then I realized it's on a topic that I know nothing about, usually math.

by Anonymousreply 18August 22, 2019 11:57 AM

R15, I have something similar. I suddenly realize I haven't fed my animals - one dog, three cats - in a long time, and they come over to me very very hungry, and I feel awful. (In reality haven't had them for 36 years).

I also have a recurring dream where I go to my childhood house where I still live in the dream. It's been burned to the ground with only the chimney standing, and some water squirting up from a broken pipe.

I am traveling through ATL and having to go downtown for some reason on the baffling New York City subway system but sometimes I am flying on very low altitude heavy jet liners back home.

I have no idea what any of this means though I did for a time work in downtown ATL 20 years ago.

by Anonymousreply 20August 22, 2019 2:47 PM

The one about being in school and realizing I forgot about a class I have all the time. It's always a math of science class. So crazy.

Also, being in the backseat of a car, realizing no one's driving it, but the car is moving. I actually get a similar helpless feeling to the class dream. Weird.
