"A Summer Place" on TCM now

So many fun and horrifying moments in this. Richard Egan is a dream zaddy. I thought Troy Donahue was ok looking, when I was a boy (it was already a vintage movie by then), nothing too special. I liked the big old house.

"Young man, I was hoping you could fix my leak."

Seems kind of ridiculous that they are arguing about custody over kids who are at least 16 years old, but whatever.

"He sent you this mink coat for Christmas. It'll come in handy for cold nights — IN MOTELS!"

Connie Ford is absolutely magnificent in this.

That said, I always feel like the movie is basically over once they leave the "summer place." The second act fizzles. And it's hard to imagine Dorothy McGuire inspiring red-hot passion.

It's a B movie but a classic one and classy enough. Yes it does drag.

I ADORE this movie, everything about it. Very sexy. The music is dreamy.

Sandra is of Russian descent, right? She has those intense dark eyes, same as Natalie Wood.

So many favorite lines in this movie. "Frank Lloyd Wright designed our house."

The drunken dad is a pip.

Betty Rizzo should have given Sandra Dee more credit — between the two of them, Rizzo’s pregnancy was the only false alarm.

I want this on Blu-ray so bad. Wish they would restore it and release it. The theme was bigger and more popular than film by far.

Ridiculous campfest. Yes, one can enjoy the cheesiness, but Christ in a bucket of snails hadn't ANYONE heard of a condom? They existed at that time! The boy should have known about them! He had to have known!

But nooooo, no condoms! By the end of the movie he's a husband and about to be a father, at 18 or something. Fucking idiots.

Never got into Sandra Dee. Her fat face and acting left a lot to be desired.

Is this really a B picture? Susan Slade was on earlier and that seemed more of a B picture. Not sure why except that Sandra Dee was a much bigger star than Connie Stevens.

A Summer Place was not a B picture when it was released. It was A all the way.
