Robert De Niro Sues Assistant
[quote]The company alleges that during a four-day period in January, she watched 55 episodes of “Friends.”
[quote]According to the suit, filed on Saturday in state court in New York, Robinson was hired as an assistant to De Niro in 2008. She was later promoted to “vice president of production and finance” at the loan-out company, and her 2019 salary was $300,000.

One of the comments puts the numbers in perspective. This seems like nitpicking for what were likely considered perks of the job.
[quote]$12,696.65 at Paola’s restaurant over a two-year period works out to $122 per week. $9,000 at Dean & DeLuca and Whole Foods over the same period works out to $87 per week. $32,000 for Uber and taxi rides over the same period works out to $308 per week. Does not sound like much in Hollywood.

Clearly they need to be terminating the employment of whoever her immediate superior was. Why did they allow so many improper charges on her company credit card go through for such a long time? Was no one in the accounting office paying any attention to how much money this woman was spending until the very end.
I approved expense reports and reviewed company credit card bills for many years. When I saw disallowed items, such as personal toiletries, on someone's expense report it didn't take much effort to deny the charge or deduct the charges from the employee's paycheck if it was on a company card.

R13 Then Robert de Niro needs to learn how to properly set up a company. Giving someone the power to approve her own T&E reports is just asking for trouble. But then, this is a company run by show business types, most of whom have the management ability of squirrels.

Question People Should Ask: How does one go from being one of De Niro's assistants to "Vice President of Production and Finance?"
So she worked with him and then as the VP for 11 years and people JUST NOW discovered that there was something wrong? There's something going on here. I'm not saying that she didn't spend hours watching Netflix, I'm saying they knew but didn't care until they/he wanted her gone.
She should have been fired for lying about vacation time and other random things but it's doubtful that all of this came out of the clear blue sky in the past year.
[quote]All of those expenses are business expenses and are taxed at different rates.
Exactly R14. Those expenses were likely okay until they were no longer okay as in they wanted her gone. Even if she could approve her own expenses someone else besides her would have seen it.

I had a comptroller who we found out was playing solitaire on his PC for hours a day. I had an IT guy go in one day while he was at lunch and remove all the games from his PC. I didn't say a word to him about it, but someone in the accounting department apparently told him later on. A few weeks later he resigned. Good riddance I said.

No R25, he was in his late 50's (this was 17 years ago). As comptroller he was in a highly paid position. the entire accounting department worked under him. The fact that he was that high up in the chain was the reason I didn't say anything directly to him. He would have been shamed, and that was not my aim. What's interesting is how many people can do their job while spending hours doing everything else. Maybe most jobs are simply useless and don't require the time corporations, and we as a society, have decided to pretend is actually needed for them. In other words, bullshit jobs. At this stage, the majority of jobs are probably useless, at least the majority of hours.

There's a reason it's called "work". Employees are paid to perform functions that benefit the company, not play video games and watch TV.

and yet, it seems a lot of times in reality, employees are paid to be there, whether they're really needed or not. Some of it is just a game of let's pretend everyone is really needed 8 hours, or 9, or 10. And in turn, let's pretend to work 8 or 9 or 10 hours a day when it really is completely unnecessary, except in the corporate sense of looking like you give a shit when you clearly don't.

That article is stupidly written. It says they're suing her for binge watching Netflix and watching multiple episodes of Friends. First of all you can't sue someone for that. All you can do is tell them not to do it anymore or fire them. They are suing her for theft by conversion (using the company credit card on personal expenses), and theft of petty cash for personal expenses.

She was given the company credit card and they let her make these charges all that time without properly supervising her spending. I can't see any court convicting her of anything unless she signed an agreement promising to use the card only for company purchases. And obviously the binge watching of Netlix and "Friends" is not something she can be sued for.
They have no one to blame but de Niro and the senior management of the company.
And besides, I can only imagine what they'd find if they looked at the charges on de Niro's company credit card and any company credit cards held by senior management. Employees more often than not emulate what they see or know their superiors are doing.

[quote]“De Niro communicated in a hostile, abusive, and intimidating manner with Ms. Robinson. He attacked her in gender terms, calling her a ‘b—ch’ and a ‘brat.’ In speaking to Ms. Robinson, he called his female business partner a ‘c--t’ and referred to his executive assistants as ‘the girls.’ De Niro would unleash tirades against Ms. Robinson – often while he was intoxicated – in which he denigrated, berated, bullied, and hurled expletives at her,” the suit reads. De Niro made vulgar, inappropriate, and gendered comments to Ms. Robinson. He would joke with Ms. Robinson about his Viagra prescription. De Niro smirked to Ms. Robinson about his young paramour, who was around Ms. Robinson’s age. De Niro directed Ms. Robinson to imagine him on the toilet. He told Ms. Robinson that doing manual labor would ‘make a man out of you.’ De Niro suggested that Ms. Robinson could get pregnant using sperm from her (married) male co-worker.”
If this is true, he sounds as bad his nemesis DJT.
