ELton John sucking up and social climbing as usual.

Elton has been awful for many, many, many years, probably forever.

For that price he should of got some Royal Ginger Cock.

I really turned against him when he said he would leave his fortune to his godchildren including the Beckham brood, liz Hurley's son and other already hugely wealthy kids. How about letting it fund orphanages and good causes?
"We have enough godchildren to leave everything to now. They are going to inherit a fair old whack, but our godchildren play a very big part in our lives.”

R4 disgusting but again he’s buying love just like with his Mommy.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | August 19, 2019 6:06 PM |
Nice house, Sir Elton. Maybe you could get a better rug with all your dough.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | August 19, 2019 6:13 PM |
Least Elton makes his own money and pays his own bills
by Anonymous | reply 7 | August 19, 2019 6:30 PM |
He was Diana's friend. Maybe he is just trying to support her son.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | August 19, 2019 6:39 PM |
How much of a friend was he to Diana?

They were too alike to be too good a friends. Both attention seeking melodramatic bulimic neurotics

He's always got to besties with the biggest current British "stars" - over the years - The Spice Girls, The Beckhams, George Michael, Princess Di and many others, now these two.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | August 20, 2019 2:15 AM |
He is such a legend.

...ary cunt
by Anonymous | reply 15 | August 20, 2019 2:20 AM |
Does Elton need to suck up? He's sort of an icon.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | August 20, 2019 2:22 AM |
It must be surreal to watch Elton try to 'parent'.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | August 20, 2019 2:26 AM |
Elton used to spend a ton of money to provide fresh flowers in his home. I wonder if he still does that. The man has money to burn. He spent 293.000 pounds on flowers in one year.

the British taxpayer is soooo generous with this family... it's even hard to fathom why these leeches were not beheaded long ago!
by Anonymous | reply 19 | August 20, 2019 3:03 AM |
Give it time, r19
by Anonymous | reply 20 | August 20, 2019 3:07 AM |
Madonnas kids serenade her with Elton Johns “Your Song” for her birthday. This is an interesting choice considering his history of calling her a no talent cunt in public.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | August 20, 2019 3:09 AM |
Maybe, it's time to get rid of the BRF. They are useless to society especially Rapist Andrew.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | August 20, 2019 3:11 AM |
He's always been so jealous of Madonna and her career. She still looks youthful, while he looks like old and fat.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | August 20, 2019 3:11 AM |
The list of charitable contributions that Elton John has made over his long career is nearly endless.
And yet a handful of miserable homos on Datalounge hate him because...he’s gay? He’s richer than God? He’s happily married? He’s fat? He’s old?
Pathetic.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | August 20, 2019 3:24 AM |
It is possible that creating and stoking the sentiment you espouse is why MM is in the postion she is, R22. What is more identified with a sense of British national identity than the BRF, after all? Support for the monarchy was stable until the antics of Me-Gain. Or it could be her embodying the resentment H has long had toward his family? Hmmm.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | August 20, 2019 3:43 AM |
R25 Why should the British taxpayers support Rapist Andrew?
by Anonymous | reply 26 | August 20, 2019 3:55 AM |
R24, does making a charitable contribution erase the fact that he is a sex pest?
by Anonymous | reply 27 | August 20, 2019 4:02 AM |
I thought Elton and Madonna buried the hatchet a while back.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | August 20, 2019 4:05 AM |
R25 If the BRF continues to protect Rapist Andrew, it's time to get rid of the BRF.

This is one of the worst things that social climbers do if they're rich--they befriend celebrities or royals and tell them they're going to leave nice things to their children. It ties the celebrities/royals closer to them.
Many of the nicest jewels in the royal collection that the queen wears were willed to her mother by a minor aristocratic woman, Dame Margaret Greville. Like Sir Elton her goal in life was being close to royals, and she was married to an extremely rich man, so she bought fabulous jewelry for herself, and told the Queen Mother (who was younger than she was, and whose good graces she had slithered her way into) she was going to give her all of them to her when she died, and she did. Then the current queen inherited them all--she let Eugenie wear one of the Greville tiaras to her wedding last year. They could have been sold after she died and the money then could have gone to good causes, but now they're just even more doodads for the royal women to wear.

Diana cared about celebrity more than lineage, which is how she got to be friends with her. She wanted to marry Charles for the same reason when she was Princess she wanted to dance with John Travolta--because they were famous and she had a crush on them when she was a teenager, and Elton was another of these men. But since he was gay she could be his faghag, which she loved.
He decided to keep pressing his luck, and so has sucked up to all kinds of famous people because he LOVES the reflected glory.

Did someone up thread mention something about Elton's relationship with his mother?
I can't say that I've followed him and his career, so is there some story there?
by Anonymous | reply 32 | August 20, 2019 11:37 PM |
It must kill him that Bohemian Rhapsody got more acclaim than Rocketman, which will probably be forgotten awards season. I don’t really pay much attention to him now. He’s just a vapid old man anymore along with David Furnish. Him and Furnish have an open relationship for the poster above who thinks their marriage is made in heaven. Even though they probably have to pay porn stars and whores to climb in bed with them when no one else would willingly do so.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | August 20, 2019 11:47 PM |
He is estranged from his mother, think she has not met the grandchildren. Another thing he shares with ghosting expert Me-Gain.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | August 20, 2019 11:50 PM |
According to Rocketman, Elton John's mother, Sheila, was not a warm and fuzzy British matriarch who offered round-the-clock support. In fact, Sheila is scripted as being so cruel to her only son that when Bryce Dallas Howard, who was cast to play the part, first read Lee Hall's screenplay, the actress was taken aback.

How did Elton escape HIV/AIDS?
Was he just too hammered to get it up during the Plague Years?
by Anonymous | reply 36 | August 21, 2019 6:55 AM |
Possibly r36. He was drunk and coked up throughout the 80s.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | August 21, 2019 7:29 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 38 | August 21, 2019 7:38 AM |
"It must kill him that Bohemian Rhapsody got more acclaim than Rocketman"
The fact that "BH" made a hell of a lot more money is probably killing him more!
A person doesn't get to be a worldwide superstar with an amazingly long career, without a strong competitive streak and a massive ego. He's probably spent the last year trying to find someone to kneecap Brian May.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | August 21, 2019 7:52 AM |
OP at this point, where exactly is there left for Sir Elton to climb.
These Megan Markell/Prince Harry threads are always so bizarre.

You’re way overly invested in the inconsequential details of this complete strangers life.

R39, I'm fairly certain he's fully aware he's not the superstar he was in the 70s. I was in my teens in the 80s and had no idea how huge Elton had been just a few years earlier, I mean at one point in the 70s 5% of all records sold on the planet were by Elton. In the 80s Queen was absolutely huge, and actually still is. Elton may be many things but he's not stupid. He knows he's lucky to have the career he's had, especially since he's witnessed hundreds of flash in the pan stars over the years, while he's been able to tour all the time and fill stadiums and concert halls. He's extremely talented and he's been fairly open about his own shortcomings, like about being a total cunt.
I see him as a complex human being, and yes, sure it's possible he wanted the film to do better, but $187M global B.O. for a musical biopic is not bad at all. Bohemian Rhapsody's success was something no one could predict, the movie's global B.O. is $903M which is just extraordinary. Not surprisingly Bohemian Rhapsody is the most successful music biopic ever, followed by Straight Outta Compton (global B.O. $201M), Walk the Line (global B.O. $186M) and Rocketman ($187M). Rocketman's domestic B.O. is $96M which I personally find surprising. As a comparison domestic B.O. of the Tina Turner biopic What's Love Got to Do with It in 1993 was $39M, which is apparently around $69M in today's money.
BTW, OP calling Elton John a social climber is totally ridiculous. He's one of the most successful artists ever on the planet and has been on the top for decades. He's the one others are climbing to.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | August 21, 2019 8:50 AM |
Oh please, R41, Elton and the Queen guys have known each other since the 1970s, and they were both making biographical movies at almost the same time. There HAD to be a feeling of competition there!
A competition that Elton lost, and he's a notorious cunt. May and Taylor had better watch their kneecaps.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | August 21, 2019 9:44 AM |
Well, Elton does reportedly get very angry when he's not introduced as "sir Elton John" in his live appearances and on tv shows. As if "sir" means anything outside the UK...
by Anonymous | reply 43 | August 21, 2019 9:55 AM |
Elton has always been competitive, even with artists who weren't even competing with him (David Bowie, The Band, Neil Diamond), so yes, I'm sure he's jealous of BH's box office, but this movie was just a stepping stone (no pun) to the inevitable Broadway show. I doubt that he's that angry. Also, Elton has Devil Wears Prada coming soon, which is almost certain to garner him huge accolades.
