The Vampire Killer: Richard Chase
I saw a documentary about this guy a few years ago.
He was somewhere between a spree killer and a serial killer (I think he killed six people in a month). On one level he was a monster, but he was also a seriously ill schizophrenic, and he should have been institutionalized. His behavior was utterly bizarre in the years leading up to the murders.
Weird/sad case.

[quote]Chase granted a series of interviews with Robert Ressler, during which he spoke of his fears of Nazis and UFOs, claiming that although he had killed, it was not his fault; he had been forced to kill to keep himself alive, which he believed any person would do. He asked Ressler to give him access to a radar gun, with which he could apprehend the Nazi UFOs, so that the Nazis could stand trial for the murders. He also handed Ressler a large amount of macaroni and cheese, which he had been hoarding in his pants pockets, believing that the prison officials were in league with the Nazis and attempting to kill him with poisoned food.

What I wonder is, if he hadn't been schizophrenic, would he still have been a serial killer?
Most serial killers are not this mentally ill (if mentally ill at all).

He did not go out of his way to murder. He took lazy opportunity when he saw it. One lady shot Bc he saw her taking out the trash. One family he killed Bc their door was unlocked. He didn’t bother to break in, just kept trying doors u til he found one left open. Lock your doors people !
