2 mounted officers in controversial arrest of black man in Texas will not face a criminal investigation

Because of-fucking-course not.

by Anonymousreply 40August 19, 2019 11:13 PM

Didn’t the police chief, a black man himself, defend their actions?

by Anonymousreply 1August 19, 2019 12:29 PM

... and r1?

by Anonymousreply 2August 19, 2019 12:30 PM

These officers can mount me anytime.

by Anonymousreply 3August 19, 2019 12:35 PM

They didn't have a squad car so what else were they supposed to do?

Ask the perp to meet them at the station when he gets around to it?

by Anonymousreply 4August 19, 2019 12:38 PM

No, R4, the two officers should have dismounted their horses and shown the compassion required and walked alongside the criminal.

by Anonymousreply 5August 19, 2019 12:56 PM

I bet no one would say anything if the perpetrator was white.

by Anonymousreply 6August 19, 2019 1:07 PM

This is why they kneel

by Anonymousreply 7August 19, 2019 1:10 PM

R6, and why should they?

by Anonymousreply 8August 19, 2019 1:10 PM

r6 is rather idiotic.

by Anonymousreply 9August 19, 2019 1:12 PM

The man arrested is a well-known local nuisance and I do mean nuisance. He just happened to be arrested by mounted patrol. My neighbor is a black cop and he was discussing this with me and said the whole thing has been blown out of proportion. I live in Galveston by the way.

My neighbor is also hot as fuck but straight, sadly.

by Anonymousreply 11August 19, 2019 1:26 PM

Didn’t we already discuss this when it first happened and agree that since they were mounted police they didn’t have a back seat to put him in?

by Anonymousreply 12August 19, 2019 1:33 PM

They should have let him go because he is black, amirite!?

by Anonymousreply 13August 19, 2019 1:35 PM

no . .

by Anonymousreply 14August 19, 2019 1:42 PM

r13 should inject a little nuance into her worldview

by Anonymousreply 15August 19, 2019 1:43 PM

He's a nuisance because he's mentally ill, not because he's a bad person. R4 they could have called for a car, it's not rocket science, although to you, I'm sure it seems so.

Police murder unarmed black men everyday, one of whom was sitting in his own apartment in Dallas, reading and minding his own business at the time, and nothing is ever done about it. So this kind of pales in comparison. I can't imagine anyone is surprised.

by Anonymousreply 16August 19, 2019 2:11 PM

Let’s just not arrest anymore Black people, it always seems to cause problems.

by Anonymousreply 17August 19, 2019 2:16 PM

Again with the lack of nuance at r17.

No wonder Trump's in the White House.

by Anonymousreply 18August 19, 2019 2:17 PM

He’s under arrest and going to jail.

It’s generally unpleasant no matter how you get there. If they had him walking outside a car I could see the issue.

by Anonymousreply 19August 19, 2019 2:24 PM

Can’t say if he’s mentally ill or not but he’s got an extensive rap sheet and my neighbor said they’ve gotten tired of this guy’s antics. Until our system starts taking care of these types there is only so much the police can do.

by Anonymousreply 20August 19, 2019 2:26 PM

[QUOTE]Didn’t the police chief, a black man himself, defend their actions?

Sho nuf !

by Anonymousreply 21August 19, 2019 2:29 PM

He has a long medical record of mental illness r20. This country has dropped the ball on mental health care since the 80s. It's one of a long list of egregious dropped balls in the U.S.

by Anonymousreply 22August 19, 2019 2:31 PM

[quote]I bet no one would say anything if the perpetrator was white.

If the perp was white, these police officers would have shown him respect, called him "sir", talked him down from whatever crazy rant that attracted their attention in the first place, and then escorted him safely home because [italic]that perp{/italic] was just misunderstood, confused by video games, and had reason to act like a lunatic.

by Anonymousreply 23August 19, 2019 2:41 PM

They could have waited until a squad car was available. That's what every other cop does.

by Anonymousreply 24August 19, 2019 2:50 PM

R23

If the 'perp' was white, it wouldn't have been an issue.

It's when someone is black that it becomes, YAWN, yet again an 'issue'.

by Anonymousreply 25August 19, 2019 2:55 PM

You're right, R25; if the perp were white, it wouldn't have been an issue. And the police wouldn't have come, arrested him, and led him down the street in cuffs with a rope.

by Anonymousreply 26August 19, 2019 3:04 PM

Lots of crazy white homeless are arrested too.

by Anonymousreply 27August 19, 2019 3:46 PM

So the guy was the local nut? He looks to be in decent shape! Is he dangerous or just Boo Radley screwy? Does he have a huge cock?

by Anonymousreply 28August 19, 2019 3:52 PM

Maybe the officers should have called for a straitjacket. If they had put one on him before leading him down the street, the optics would have been different.

by Anonymousreply 29August 19, 2019 4:11 PM

What an obvious case of felony inappropriateness!

by Anonymousreply 30August 19, 2019 4:31 PM

As someone who lives in Houston (close to Galveston) I can tell you that blacks are a big problem there. Theft, shootings, murder, drugs, and most of not all are on public assistance for generations.

by Anonymousreply 31August 19, 2019 5:00 PM

What the fuck has happened to my beloved DL?

by Anonymousreply 32August 19, 2019 6:39 PM

Racists have been emboldened all over the planet, r32. Why should DL be any exception? The El Paso shooter raised his arms and said "oops" after killing 22 people and wounding 24 others and the police calmly collected him and put him into a squad car. Does anyone in his right mind actually believe that if he had been a black man in identical circumstances that he would have survived to be put into a squad car? I can almost guarantee that no white man, no matter how mentally ill, has ever been tied to ropes in Galveston and led by mounted police to a police station. Remember that Texas is where the man tied a black man (James Byrd) 21 years ago with a chain attached to his car and dragged him for miles until he was dead. Unapologetic until the moment he was executed. So there's a little history there.....

And remember the black woman who was stopped for a minor infraction in the little Texas town and died in jail 2 days later after being denied bail or the opportunity to make a car.

I'm white, but I'm not blind to the unequal treatment of blacks and whites in our justice system.

by Anonymousreply 33August 19, 2019 7:21 PM

“They didn't have a squad car so what else were they supposed to do?”

Exactly what you see on all the ‘cops’ shows. Wait for a backup vehicle to transport him. It’s the standard on all the programs. They were after a visual.

by Anonymousreply 34August 19, 2019 7:37 PM

It’s very hot in Galveston. I don’t think simply “waiting for a squad car” would be a good alternative.

by Anonymousreply 35August 19, 2019 7:42 PM

R34 They can wait for a squad car but the horses couldn't fit in it.

by Anonymousreply 36August 19, 2019 10:37 PM

I couldn't find my car during Mardi Gras in Galveston a couple of years ago, so I flagged down a cop to drive me around until I found it. Yes I am a white woman.

by Anonymousreply 37August 19, 2019 10:43 PM

I know a very senior executive in a top 15 corporation. A total Boy Scout, squeaky clean. He has talked about his fear of being pulled over. He said he was taught early on by his middle class parents how these stops can unravel for black males, regardless of their background.

It made me so sad. If you folks can’t see that racists and bigots are not emboldened and acting out, then I think you’re deliberately deluding yourselves. I am shocked at the tone and racist rhetoric on Datalounge the last few years.

Two news events with one perp white and the other a person of color committing the same crime, and watch how the treatment/posts on DL are dramatically different.

by Anonymousreply 38August 19, 2019 10:56 PM

Dear R30 You need to stop being "shocked at the tone and racist rhetoric on Datalounge" and strengthen yourself by donating your time doing charity work in Galveston or wherever. Reality is more real than internet fluffy nonsense.

by Anonymousreply 39August 19, 2019 11:09 PM

“It’s very hot in Galveston. I don’t think simply “waiting for a squad car” would be a good alternative.”

But walking the guy, roped, in the extreme heat you describe IS THE RIGHT ALTERNATIVE?
