What will likely happen to the country if a recession occurs.

Conservative Ross Douthat has some guesses.

"First, the easy part: Donald Trump loses re-election. It will be ugly and flailing and desperate and — depending on recession-era geopolitics — potentially quite dangerous, but there is no way a president so widely disliked survives the evaporation of his boom. The rules of politics have changed, but they haven’t been suspended. Polarization will keep Trump from being defeated in a landslide, but not from being beaten handily, and in a recession the Democrats can nominate any of their candidates and expect to evict the president with ease."

One can hope, but I'm dancing in the streets until November 4, 2020.

Do I care what a NY Times conservative has to say? Checking... checking... nope.

Trump only has to remove the China tariffs and the dreams of those hoping for a recession will evaporate.

People need to stop assuming that Trump will lose reelection if the case of a small recession. Its going to take more than that.

tRump is reviled and hated by more people than those who approve of his racism and misogyny. An economic downturn — even a mild one — would hurt him. Yes, his supporters are quite ardent, and we certainly have to work very hard to make sure he is defeated, but make no mistake, he is vulnerable because he is so very unpopular. No president in the 70 years since polling began has failed to achieve the approval of a majority of the country — until tRump.

Trump will blame it on Obama - deplorables will concur.

Jarod Kushner will become a Christian Monk and live quietly in upstate NY.

Trump would die of a massive heart attack before the election. Yes, he'd rather die on his own terms than lose to a woman.
