Lace (1984)
"Which one of you bitches is my mother?" was named one of the best lines in television history by TV Guide in 1993.
The two-part miniseries was one of the highest rated TV movies in 1984.
Phoebe Cates' layered, epic performance was one of her last.
Deborah Raffin replaced Bess Armstrong in role of Judy Hale in Lace 2 (1985).

The novel was full of sex scenes. Why my mother left it on the coffee table, I’ll never know. P
And “which one of you bitches...” pops out of my mouth quite regularly. It’s as versatile as “That’s what she said”, and almost as funny.

I remember watching the mini-series in ONE sitting because of all the threads on DL about it.
It really is a great mini-series. Trashy fun but it's well-made.

Why does she emphasize “bitches” instead of “mother”?

Phoebe Cates doesn't act like that in any other movie.
She's understated and natural in Fast Times, Bodies Rest and Motion, The Anniversary Party.

[QUOTE]Phoebe Cates' layered, epic performance was one of her last.
There's a reason she didn't make it big in Hollywood.

Why does she make "Hi" sound so unfriendly?
