What is up with the rain in NYC?

A fucking monsoon just now. Tree in front of my place nearly cracked in half. So much rain this year.

by Anonymousreply 29February 18, 2020 2:52 PM

Storming here in Queens now, a deluge.

by Anonymousreply 1August 18, 2019 10:13 PM

I hear it’s dry downtown. Weird.

by Anonymousreply 2August 18, 2019 10:16 PM

HK has a downpour too. My cat is freaking out. Guess it’s time for an amazon prime now delivery!

by Anonymousreply 3August 18, 2019 10:17 PM

There’s nothing unusual with this. When it rains in NYC, it doesn’t fuck around.

by Anonymousreply 4August 18, 2019 10:20 PM

My cell phone screeched a warning and then about 10 minutes later, the heavens opened up and torrents of rain fell from the sky. It was over in about 15 minutes. --Greenwich Village, Manahttan

Just because it’s raining in one area doesn’t mean it is everywhere.

It's rained in Manhattan then when I get home to Brooklyn I find out it hadn’t rained at all for the day.

by Anonymousreply 6August 18, 2019 10:32 PM

No it doesn’t rain like this all the time in NYC. I’ve lived here 24 years and it’s never been like this. And I swear there’s been near record rain overall the last few months. I live in HK by the way.

by Anonymousreply 7August 18, 2019 10:33 PM

T-storms in August can be pretty intense.

by Anonymousreply 8August 18, 2019 10:33 PM

Ugh. Another transplant.

At least you’re here 24 years.

by Anonymousreply 9August 18, 2019 10:36 PM

[quote]I’ve lived here 24 years and it’s never been like this.

You must have been living in Manhattan TX. When Hurricane Sandy blew through New York City it was a lot worse than this.

by Anonymousreply 10August 18, 2019 10:39 PM

There’s been consistent rain days since March last year. It’s unusual for NYC. Obviously climate change but our Asshole-in-Chief would disagree.

by Anonymousreply 11August 18, 2019 10:46 PM

NYC weather is awful these past few years, and worse that some places that you all claim have terrible weather, like Chicago.

At least their weather is more consistent. NY weather is full on bi-polar now.

by Anonymousreply 12August 18, 2019 10:52 PM

Extremely hot in late August, humid, and tropical rain storms. This is not normal NY weather. You might have started getting a hint of Autumn by now 30 or more years ago.

by Anonymousreply 13August 18, 2019 10:53 PM

It's the End Times, fellas.

by Anonymousreply 14August 18, 2019 11:03 PM

Extreme climate change, which is already here.

Hurricane Sandy was a big bust for me. I lived in the WV on Bank St and was told to evacuate. Stayed at the Plaza and ended up heading out that night to find food. I wasted all this time and money putting up tape on the windows and paying for the hotel room.

I now live in the Hudson Valley and we too just had a deluge.

by Anonymousreply 16August 18, 2019 11:56 PM

Chicago hasn't been missed by ANY storm fronts all summer. Incredibly stormy

by Anonymousreply 17August 19, 2019 12:04 AM

Hurricane Sandy was frightening. A tree fell outside my apt in Brooklyn. Toward the street, it could have crashed into my apt. Power was out for days in most of Brooklyn. My neighborhood escaped that but subways were not running. People drove in from other parts of Brooklyn to buy necessities.

by Anonymousreply 18August 19, 2019 12:09 AM

R18 is a transplant.

by Anonymousreply 19August 19, 2019 12:11 AM

I have been in the NYC metro area (NYC and New Jersey) for over 40 years., R19 is an asshole.

by Anonymousreply 20August 19, 2019 12:31 AM

When someone says that they live in HK I always assume that they live in Hong Kong.

As you were...

by Anonymousreply 21August 19, 2019 12:58 AM

I live in Manhattan and Sandy wasn't like it was today. A big build up but a disappointment in Manhattan. You must live in New Jersey. The height of the storm today was fucking ridiculous.

by Anonymousreply 22August 19, 2019 1:04 AM

r22 is me

by Anonymousreply 23August 19, 2019 1:05 AM

Well, at least some rats are being drowned in the subway, right?

by Anonymousreply 24August 19, 2019 1:06 PM

^^^ Actually those little fuckers know how to swim pretty well.

I've lived here 56 years and yes, yes, yes, IT DOES.

So NYAH!

New York actually gets more rain than Seattle. It rains less often, but more intensely. It rains less than Miami, however. New York is the second rainiest large city in the continental USA based on annual rainfall.
