In case you missed it in "The Crown" thread.

I just started binging this show.

They really have made Windsor look like a complete asshat, Phillip seem weak and whiny, and Churchill old and befuddled.

The only person who comes across well is Elizabeth.

Do most people (in the UK) view this show as pure fiction or do some think there is a kernel of actual reality in it?

Vanessa Kirby should have won an Emmy.

It amuses me that HBC has played both mother and daughter.

by Anonymousreply 3August 23, 2019 2:18 AM

From the picture, I'd have thought HBC was playing Joan Crawford. She has neither the look nor the air of Princess Margaret.

Or like HBC playing Jessica Lange playing Crawford.

Helena doesn't even remotely look alike Princess Margaret, and this is a biopic series! I just can't......

Mary, take a Valium!!

They would have been better off to "age" Vanessa Kirby for one more season, at least. She was spectacular as Margaret.

by Anonymousreply 8August 23, 2019 3:03 AM

They should have aged both Kirby and the actress playing Elizabeth (forget her name). I love Olivia Coleman but she is SO obviously miscast as QEII

by Anonymousreply 9August 23, 2019 3:07 AM

Octavia Spencer is playing Margaret?

Finally. Someone who can capture the gravitas and sad plight of a poor princess relegated to the position of former spare.

WHORES AND SLUTS!!!!

by Anonymousreply 11August 23, 2019 3:12 AM

Wasn't Margaret the ugly one? Who was the one Joan Rivers used to tell jokes about. (Tell us how old you are this year...one, two, three.)

by Anonymousreply 12August 23, 2019 3:45 AM

Olivia Colman also has portrayed the Elizabeth the Queen Mother (Hyde Park on Hudson) and her daughter Elizabeth II. I think she'll be wonderful, as always.

Joan joked about Princess Anne, the equine looking one. Margaret was the fabulous floozy.

by Anonymousreply 14August 23, 2019 4:15 AM

I just checked Hyde Park on the Hudson clips and her accent is WAY off, r13.

At least she recycles her clothes. That's admirable. And she is very hard working and takes her role seriously unlike others.

[quote]In October/November 2007, rumours circulated on the internet suggesting that a member of the British royal family was the victim of blackmail. The first confirmation that the royal in the extortion attempt was indeed Viscount Linley, as Snowdon was known at the time, came from the journalist Nicholas Davies. Ian Strachan and Sean McGuigan tried to extort £50,000 from Snowdon in September by threatening to release video footage showing sex acts and cocaine use (allegedly by Snowdon and a male royal aide) on a mobile phone. Snowdon contacted the police. Strachan and McGuigan were arrested after showing their video footage to an undercover detective. Strachan and McGuigan were sentenced to five years in prison.

Margaret's son seems to have had a colorful life.
